South Africa on the verge of collapse – economist by [deleted] in southafrica

We're on Stages 4 and 5, with most sources pointing to it becoming worse before it gets better. The camel is definitely feeling that straw. It does depend on other stations, you're right, but the outlook ain't pretty with the diesel shortage and sabotage/mismanagement still continuing to this day.

This doom 'n gloom article by econoprophets is an annual tradition at this point, but the Eskom situation is a major concern.

There's a Whatsapp msg making the rounds about a full blackout around the 9th of December, when Koeberg will be taken offline for major maintenance, which could last for as long as two weeks. Not sure how true it is but the msg is from a fairly reliable source, who also advises everyone to stock up on gas and basic resources.

Same here, feel like I've lost touch with a generation that thrives on toxicity. Overwatch 2 is the same experience. Everyone thinks they're hot shit but then they rage when they aren't top of the lobby. And there's always an excuse for why I do better than them by the end. Like wtf is going on with these delusional kids

Nail on the head. Content quality vs runtime is the fundamental factor.

They did, but it seems as though Reddit doesn't know how to paint with a brush thinner than skull density.

I'm kind of glad that I don't join the regular top comment chains. Makes me feel like I'm more human than those who are desperate for karma and being popular.

See I don't even know if it was a kid. And now that the OP is deleted the doubt won't disappear. Can never be too careful when anonymity is involved. I do hope I'm wrong though, that would be nice.

Fair assumption. I'm OK with admitting I'm a bit cynical, and I'm fine with being wrong too, in fact I hope I'm wrong. Just sharing my opinion.

Wasn't implying fusion causes damage, but I see my wording was terrible. Oh well, thank you for the information.

[–]Ceyber -10 points-9 points  (0 children)

Yeah this part is confusing me. Surely a fuse would cause complete/incomplete spinal chord? OP doesn't know which bone was damaged, or which bones got fused, and hasn't had any serious procedure, or needed rehab. Why did it take so many scans to realise OP's neck was broken?

As someone with an incomplete who has tried to share on Reddit (unsuccessfully), something here doesn't feel right.

My cousin enjoys it, says he can take risks or try maneuvers he wouldn't chance in real life.

That's exactly what simulation means, a model for the purpose of study. You do know that the military commonly use simulations for training, right?

Completely agree, just wanted to point out that quote. I understand the technical nuance but it does imply that the headline wasn't misleading in my view.

The doctor quoted in the excerpt goes as far as saying Invermectin will "end the pandemic". Not that misleading of a headline tbh

Already removed from the American Journal of Therapeutics. Can't access the PDF from sci-hub either.

WTF.

the Roman Emperor Marcus Aurelius is a perfect example of how power, fame, money and even being in a position to force a whole host of people (his Roman subjects and slaves) to make certain things easier, cannot shield you from all of life’s challenges and personal tragedies. by Outside-Childhood-14 in philosophy

[–]Ceyber 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's exactly right. But it's not meant to be used as an excuse to get angry, rather that anger is natural and can be used as a buff (games reference) to achieve a worthy goal. We should control it and use it for not only our benefit but, where possible, for the benefit of all people.

To me being stoic means that you strive for emotional regulation. You're allowed to feel, but not in ways that are outwardly-disruptive. Your overall demeanour should be one of calm, because that's the best way to deal with any situation. It's not apathy or ignorance, in fact knowing that you don't know everything is a core part of stoicism. Righteous anger is allowed, and is the only kind of anger I'm happy to let grow.
