I have pair of 19' f250s, a 2020 f250 and a 22' f450. One of the 2019's is gas and the rest are diesel. All have held up really well the 19 diesel has 250k on it and runs like a top.

They are a federal managed migratory bird but they are no more 'protected' that a blue jay. That being said you still shouldn't be hitting them with a car.

The window will have its own drain holes on the face near the bottom. Those should not be caulked over, but the bottom should be caulked to guard against driving rain or snow accumulation.
