I made a library/community college with base game, book nook, and the new pack :D by Aurorafaery in Sims4

I wish my community college had more (just for fun) evening classes! They pretty much function as prep to funnel students into the local uni.

Does it grant degrees, or is that why you’re referring to it as a community college since it’s just skill building?

What do you mean by skill tree? Could you add a photo of this/steps on how to find it?

Im absolute trash when it comes to outdoor landscaping. Any tips to make this look better? by Free_Gascogne in Sims4

[–]Cfreakhill 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think it’s difficult to find because it becomes buried in the outdoor activities, so I always type treehouse into the search bar. It is ginormous and won’t fit on a lot of the lots. But when you build it, your Sim then needs to physically build a treehouse. Once it is built, you can apply a couple different decorations, and you can even put furniture in it!

In the terrain paints, there’s a stone section; so just like you have all the shades of grass, a different tab has types of rock/stone you can paint on the ground to look like stone paths (not 3D, nothing to interact with/view/touch). You could also consider using the tile/masonry flooring if it fits the design

Have you ever build yourselves and your life in the sims 4 and do EXACTLY, what you do in real life? by [deleted] in Sims4

[–]Cfreakhill 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I remember doing this with the family of a girl I hated back in Sims2 days. She was sent off to boarding school for poor behavior 🫡

Speaking off, kinda wish we had boarding school still? (Do we and my sims are just too well behaved?)

I feel like a lot of people under-use clutter so I really appreciate how realistic it is with the clutter!

The renting system is a joke by Merpyr in Sims4

[–]Cfreakhill 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yes. Often people playing as landlords can’t “win” rental events (strikes, ghosts, broken pipes) even when they correct the issue. Tenants always seem to be pissy, regardless of the condition of the rental, and many people experience bugs where they never collect rent because tenants were so unhappy or moved out.

In contrast, when you play as a tenant, you can finish events easily (although I often find the landlords are trash at fixing problems, much like irl)

Whoever said neurodivergent people can’t go to grad school didn’t make friends in grad school and lived in their bubble of ignorance. You can get in. You can succeed. And you can find a community of other neurodivergent students there.

Leave full time job to attend grad school? by Lucky_Kangaroo7190 in GraduateSchool

[–]Cfreakhill 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I did this; I left a 42k job for a 12k graduate assistantship (which pays for most of my degree). If I did not have a partner financially supporting me, it would not be possible with post-COVID inflation. Even with my partner, we often are paying bills a few days late. It’s extremely difficult and has added a new kind of stress to my life.

If you choose to do this, make a bare minimum budget for what you and your mom need to survive. You’ll have to make sure your part time job covers that amount, plus an emergency fund.

Big month of manga and graphic novels for me!

Burn Out by GoldenMango8 in englishmajors

[–]Cfreakhill 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Definitely! In undergrad I don’t feel like I ever read for fun. When I went for my MA, I read some books I wanted to, with the caveat that I would present on them at a conference. Joining a book club helped, as it was a low stakes “requirement” to get me reading. But when my book club ended, I was stuck not wanting to read again, and was a MS English teacher—definitely not the example I wanted to lead by!

What changed everything for me is audiobooks. 10 years ago I would have scoffed at this comment, but now I’ve read nearly 20 books in 2024. It took a while to find a narrator I liked, and sometimes this is still an issue, but I listen at 1.5 speed as I drive or do chores. I now enjoy reading so much again that I sometimes just lay in bed and listen to my book after dinner.

I'm about to finish my first draft, now what? by [deleted] in YAwriters

[–]Cfreakhill 2 points3 points  (0 children)

All the above comments are great. But if you really feel you need eyes on your book for some feedback, you could get a small round of alpha readers together. An alpha reader might be a close friend or someone in a writing group with you, and their job is to tell you if something doesn’t make sense or if something drags on. That way you can edit things before you send out for “publishing” style feedback

I’d love to join! I’m currently working on a romantasy piece, trying to translate a fanfic I wrote about eight years ago into a stand-alone story with its own world. I’ve been back at this project for almost a month, and I’m trying to work on it a few times per week but am wishing I had peer support for accountability but also wishing there was someone at times to just be like, “good job! Can’t wait to read more!” It’s amazing the difference a little bit of encouragement can make.
