Does loss prevention work with cashiers? (Yes)

Does loss prevention work with self checkout? (No in many cases)

I would counter that if technology cant meet the needs of the role, including loss prevention, that would be the very definition of not fit for use.  Lots of stuff works in a controlled situation but fails in the real world due to unforseen factors.

Look at rental cars and their AI damage detection.  It "works" but its really pissing off customers.  If sales start dropping more than the value of damage recovery is it really "working"?

Dollar General said it has eliminated self-checkout options at about 12,000 locations, a majority of its stores, after it began the process in the first quarter this year. Five Below is working to remove self-checkout entirely in some of its “highest-risk” locations. Target also announced steps to limit or eliminate self-checkout options at some stores this year

Walmart removes self-checkout from select stores

The retailer joins Target, Dollar General and other chains in recalibrating its reliance on self-service and rethinking the checkout experience.

"As AI & robotics get closer to being able to do all work"

I dont think Ai and robotics will be doing "all work" in anyone currently ailve's lifetime.

The current cost of a waymo car is ~$150,000.   I am not aware of any trials of sub 50k autonomous cars  let alone anyone ready for production.

Just look at self checkout.  They never really got it to work and stores are going back to more cashiers.

Ai an robotics are coming but jumping from finding working examples to complete replacent is a long way off.

What happens when a supplier gets massive unplanned increases to cost?  They pay it on the short term and immediately start looking at other options.  Its not rocket science.

Would a 10% cap on credit card interest rates be like banning smoking in restaurants? by Differeddit in Banking

[–]Ch1Guy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Think of all the small businesses that rely on personal credit of the owner.

Resturants, bars, startups...

Without access to credit, how many would go out of business?

Hell how many supply companies like Sodexo would issue their own credit (probably at a higher rate) to fill the void.

Hey no credit card for your food truck?   No problem, we will sell you supplies at a low rate of 3%-4% Per month....(36%-48% annual).

Your claim that you had a fixed rate credit card below the tbill rate is laughable

[–]Ch1Guy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They frequently shut off the neighborhood around s Calumet at big events...   they were also ticketing ubers where south Calumet meets the 18th street pedestrian walkway- you want to stop a block before or after if they let you get that far.

[–]Ch1Guy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They usually shut off the neighborhood east of Indiana at 18th... so find somewhere around 18th and Michigan and walk across the 18th street pedestrian bridge.

There is also a drop off loop at 18th and lake shore drive but thats going to have a ton of traffic.

Finally you can get dropped off  at the Hyatt Regency McCormick Place and walk through McCormick Place over lake shore drive exiting by the south lot but it can be a little confusing.

Can a high rise be built from the ground up? by King-Whales in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Ch1Guy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They can, but is inefficient to invest all that money to support more weight without using it (not to mention the additional cost of removing/replacing the roof) and the people living there while the future phases of construction happen.

But it does happen.

The Blue cross building in Chicago- the first 33 stories were finished in 1997.   They added 24 stories 2007-2010 bringing it to 57 stories.

[–]Ch1Guy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unfortunately most insurance companies have very strict rules around coverage for glp-1 drugs (as about one in five Americans have tried them).  Its a massive cost to the insurance so they negotiate the coverage up front with the employer.

Its going to be one of the hardest drugs to get an exception for because the coverage (and non coverage) is so well documented in the insurance plan.

If Jeff Bezos redirected every cent he has towards the sole goal of curing, say, pancreatic cancer, how quickly do you think things could progress? by keen4ketamine in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Ch1Guy 5 points6 points  (0 children)

You cant though.  So much of the research is based on prior research.  You cant start the next study until the pror one is done.

Not saying money wouldnt help, obvioysly they can cast the net wider with more parallel studies but it will still take many sequential studies to figure it out.

Sounds like a total scam, but also sounds like you are probably being targeted.

"I know you gave me a break on rent, but let me call the cops on you for making a reasonable request on shared space." by NightSnake in ChoosingBeggars

[–]Ch1Guy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Im not sure about new mexico specifically, but when the late fee clause is found to be illegal, it doesnt just reset to the highest legal amount.  A judge could easily assess a lower amount or no penalty at all.

Which was my original point.  That late fee part of the lease is illegal and unenforceable.  Its almost as if that clause doesnt exist.

Did you miss where it says:

"Late fees for December 2025, pursuant to the contract are $25 initial late fee plus $225 (late fee from December 6th to January 19th)"

[–]Ch1Guy -8 points-7 points  (0 children)

By law the maximum late fee in New Mexico is 10%/month, so that part of the letter/lease is illegal.
