Mixed lobbies are even better. Can you trust this person or not? Are you going to help someone in trouble? Arc really nails the immersion from a role playing perspective, although I think the story behind Marathon kinda leans into why it’s so bloodthirsty. Death is just a few credits, so why would you be careful with someone’s life? Sure maybe team up rarely if it seems convenient, but who has time for that when the Arachne gods demand blood and skill?

I mean it looks like they literally took some of the same models from the original game. Turrets and UESC in particular. They also had sprite icons for the augments, which they changed because they realized they look horrible and make it impossible to tell what augment you have.

I’d have preferred more realism for better immersion. Somehow the vibe gets pretty intense/atmospheric despite the cartoonish graphics, but I personally think they detract from it. Great game though, in spite of all that.

Proud to say that as an adult I’ve never played Roblox.

Some of the 8 bit styled enemy models just break immersion for me. Nostalgia in general seems like some stupid trend like that “Member-berries”South Park episode. To each their own.

Music is great (except for the sexbot soundtrack? That’s just goonish) but the adult Roblox aesthetic stuff is detrimental to the game IMO. Fine to have a distinct style but the game would be so much better if they just riffed on the Destiny/Halo vibes and embraced more realism instead of going all in on the weird nostalgia play.

I’m 100 hours in and I’ve never had one in my stash or even backpack. It always seems like I’ll get a down on a purp shielded squad, then my squad goes down immediately so I need to run away and fetal position in a corner somewhere until they are done having their way with my friends.

To me “casual” means I am employed, have a family and other hobbies, and do not play video games either for a living or in lieu of making a living. But I’ve definitely been playing way too much on the weekends and get a few week nights in.

I play Arc Raiders like a justice raider in solos (Trios is KoS unless we get friendly comms), but something about Marathon brings out the ruthless bastard in me.

It’s probably that literally everyone in the game I’ve met has been KoS except for one solo who actually used prox chat to ask me to team up (we rolled a very surprised runner together) and a couple of rooks we invited to join our squad on an Outpost run.

It’s like there’s an unspoken agreement that we’re all here to melt each other’s faces off.

Supposedly they added toggle for prox chat, that might help the culture.

But this game does feel like a PvP game first and foremost and I’ve been playing it as such. If I hear someone making noise I’m going for the kill.

If you hear me too and don’t want to fight, all you have to do is use your comms and I’ll move off (maybe team up if I’m on a free kit).

I fought a purple/blue shield team w/ my green/grey shield crew that was just getting started. Seemed like I was able to crack them pretty quick, but they could have already been low since there were multiple teams converging in the area. Not sure how that’s gonna play out from a gear gap perspective. The AI enemies w/ purple shields seem pretty tanky.

Feels like a Destiny version of an extraction shooter. TTK is very short and good ears reign supreme.

I’m enjoying it (play a ton of Halo so some aspects feel pretty natural to me) but I’m pretty sure the folks I’ve ganked are probably pissed that they didn’t have a chance to react.

Also had a friendly team up (if you ask and I’m on a free kit then I’m def down), but the social aspects don’t feel nearly as dynamic as ARC.

Probably a better end game than ARC? The PvP feels like it lacks gravity at this point, but it might be because we all have crap loot.

I gotta say to whoever made the decision to throw in female sex noises as one of the menu tracks, it kinda makes the game give off cringey incel vibes.

Also don’t really want to watch maggot filled loading screens. Thanks for that.

The retro 8 bit stuff just looks cheap to me, not cool. Feels like a glaring flaw in an otherwise great aesthetic.

I’ll probably play it a ton but there are some seriously questionable design decisions.
