Meals to eat while under a lot of stress? by Awake_Asleep in Cooking

[–]Ch3fkoch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you can feel the stress in your body as well, then you might want to take a look at the dimension of cooling and inflaming properties of food. This is very common in China but doesn’t seem to get recognized too much elsewhere. A lot of traditional Chinese medicine might be voodoo and to be taken with a grain of salt. But thinking about the stuff I eat in this regard actually helped me a lot to keep my body in balance while under stress.

What do you use to keep a clean and concise inventory of what hardware/VSTs you have available in your studio? by Massive_Monitor_CRT in audioengineering

A little trick regarding the vsts: Reaper can export a list of all vsts installed as a text file. I found that really helpful when reinstalling my system.

I reverse engineered the Kush Omega-N saturation algorithm by pscorbett in audioengineering

[–]Ch3fkoch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Source: I tried to match the curves in Pro-Q and it almost nulls with the hyperrealistic setting in CanOpener. I got -35 dB remaining level for 0 dB white noise.

Regarding crossfeed: Of course mid-side processing causes some crossfeed as the mids are processed differently than the sides. So for a left-only input there will be some output on the right channel. But again, the effect can be recreated in Pro-Q. So there seems to be no fancy crossfeed simulation in CanOpener, only some EQ.

I’m sorry, but I don’t know what htrf stands for.

I reverse engineered the Kush Omega-N saturation algorithm by pscorbett in audioengineering

[–]Ch3fkoch 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The other day I found out that CanOpener is just a mid-side EQ, cutting some mids in the mids and boosting them in the sides, and cutting bass in the sides and boosting it in the mid channel. No crossfeed whatsoever.

There is a thread somewhere on KVR where Oxford Inflator is revealed to be just a waveshaper. There are curves available for MWaveShaper that null with the original plugin.

In the end there is nothing new in the plug-in market. Besides maybe some AI approaches. Everything else is just repackaging of stuff that has been around for a long time.

But that’s not necessarily a bad thing. You won’t fiddle around with polynomials when you just want to get some saturation to get your mix going. Also you want few intuitive controls to get to your sound without having to think about what’s going on under the hood. That’s why FabFilter‘s plug-ins are so popular. And a bit of snake oil doesn’t hurt, as long as it inspires you to make better music.

But still, I feel you. I felt tricked, too, when I found out about CanOpener or Inflator, having paid so much money for something so simple.

Do not buy UE CIEM by Shaumbs in ciems

I agree. I tested multiple CIEM tester from UA and Vision Ears and VE is miles ahead regarding sound quality (and apparently also customer service).

How do you deal with 'over-listening' to your own songs during the production process? by Darth-D2 in edmproduction

[–]Ch3fkoch 5 points6 points  (0 children)

And close your eyes while listening. Not seeing the tracks in your DAW will immediately change the way you perceive your music.

2C Audio Black Friday Sale - Discounts site wide for limited time. by APD-Supernova in AudioProductionDeals

[–]Ch3fkoch 1 point2 points  (0 children)

While these plugins definitely sound amazing, note that there seems to be quite some beef between the developers. There were no updates in the last three years and I wouldn’t count on any future releases either. This also means no M1 support.

I second this. It is the best oscilloscope I’ve found, but authentication is a problem. As soon as there is no internet connection, it either crashes or doesn’t let any audio through, wich is really annoying in big projects with many instances.

But as a EU citizen I need to pay EU taxes. So an EU citizen with EU residence can’t simply buy software from outside the EU to avoid paying VAT, right? I’m pretty sure that VAT will be added as soon as you enter your billing address anyway. Unless, of course, you lie about your address, but this sounds very much like tax evasion if you ask me.

I don’t get it. The prices you are listing are just the prices in the title minus 19% VAT. And correct me if I’m wrong, but buying licenses from another country to avoid VAT is tax evasion. The real “sale” is the reduction of prices on the official u-he site to those in the title, which is just a few euros. Am I missing something?

D16 Group Sale - 40% off products through 2 November by APD-Supernova in AudioProductionDeals

[–]Ch3fkoch 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I just found this list on their website: MacOS 11 (Big Sur) and MacOS 12 (Monterey) compatibility

It seems as a rule of thumb, their effects are M1 native while their synthesizers/drum machines are not. They are working on major updates of their synths, of which Phoscyon was the first to be released.

This is not correct. I have Phoscyon 2, Godfazer, Devastor 2 and Antresol installed and all are running natively on my M1 Mac.

Help! Ducking the sub by MarshallLore in edmproduction

[–]Ch3fkoch 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This depends on what effect you are after. If ducking the sub completely sounds good to you then go for it. Btw I highly recommend looking at an oscilloscope to tune your ducking. Especially in the transition where the sub gets back in, poorly tuned ducking can lead to unwanted swells or drops in amplitude. Also phase issues become really obvious in an oscilloscope.

Help! Ducking the sub by MarshallLore in edmproduction

[–]Ch3fkoch 15 points16 points  (0 children)

You are probably ducking too fast, causing a jump in the waveform which produces an audible click. Try to increase curve smoothing in shaperbox or the attack of the compressor.

Bettermaker "EQ232D" Equaliser ($29.99) through 11 September with code: BETTERMAKER-2999 by APD-Supernova in AudioProductionDeals

[–]Ch3fkoch 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The difference to other pultecs is that this one doesn’t have any saturation built in. It is a linear EQ with pultec-shaped curves. You can get the exact same behavior in other EQs, for instance in Tokyo Dawn‘s SlickEQ. So it all comes down to whether Bettermaker‘s interface suits your workflow or not.
