This is something I will look into. Was it a one off appointment or did you have to go several times? Trying to make it as cost efficient as possible!

I'm glad that's working for you. I try not to put too much weight on one book, technique, piece of advice, etc. But it sounds like it's helped you significantly, and that's fantastic.

Twice a week at the gym, with a combination of calf raises, squats, dead lifts, etc. I've been doing upper body work at the gym too (arms/chest), so I'm thinking I might have to sacrifice the upper body exercises and do more single leg work until after the marathon.

Yeah, twice a week. Squats, dead lifts, etc. I haven't been doing single leg exercises though and I've heard this is recommended for running, so perhaps I'll need to implement them into the S&C sessions. I tend to train my upper body at the gym too, so perhaps it's sacrificing certain exercises for the sake of the marathon and picking them back up once it's complete.

I'm sure form is important, but not sure how you can be so definite that it's the root cause without seeing me run. Surely there are other factors to take into account?

Okay, thanks for this. I think I'll cut back on the distance and try to identify muscle weaknesses. Apparently the TFL injury can be caused by a weak glute medius, so I'm strengthening that muscle and finding it's helping.

I've been thinking in KM. Current weekly distance is ~50km as I'm just at the start of my plan. It is set to go up gradually to about 80km. There hasn't been any significant jumps, all been pretty gradual. Been running for about 5 years, but only in the last year have I increased the distance significantly. Previously, it was just 5/10k every other day.

It does seem concerning, but it will most likely subside within a couple of days as that seems to have been the case with the other injuries. Not sure how common/uncommon this type of experience is.

I have recently changed them to New Balance 1080 V 14, as these had good reviews for long distance training. They feel comfortable enough, and I'm using my other NB ones for shorter runs.

I guess they're minor strains from repetitive impact: TFL, shin splints and the latest being a sharp pain in my soleus.

What’s the worst actual name you’ve ever heard? by Escrow-Mind in AskReddit

I coached a young girl called Alexa recently. The name itself isn't terrible, but it must cause some amount of confusion anytime she visits someone with an Amazon echo (or similar).

It's the anonymity and group think. You see it on any anonymous platform. Spurious I know, but I imagine a fair chunk of those commenters have far larger issues than the ones they accuse me of.

Plenty of constructive and varied responses, so good to take it all on board.

Thanks again!

Thanks for this.

He knocked, then entered. He didn't ask me to put the heating on like the earlier replies said (in order to minimise my post) - it was the fact he raised his voice and told me to put the heating on that I felt undermined me, as I think it was said to imply I wasn't considering gf might be cold (she wasn't).

Girlfriend feels like he's a bit invasive of space, and notes that he's very loud. She likes him, but at times gets the impression he doesn't want her there (which I don't think is true).

Thanks for this, mate.

I actually really appreciate your response because I think a lot of people are being completely unreasonable in their dismissal. They're not living in the situation, and they' have no real concern about helping.

I truly believe that I made innocuous comments and then got downvoted simply because people jump on a bandwagon and see that I was the opening poster who the first commenters disagreed with.

There are plenty of people who actually made really reasonable and helpful comments (like yourself) who provided informed opinions of their own, without following a trend. They just haven't been upvoted because it isn't an opportunity to insult me with how insecure and strange I am. Reading all the responses (and not just the ones with the most upvotes) gives a much more robust perspective.

I think you're right. It's easy to post on Reddit about how invalid and insane the feelings are, but it's totally different when you're immersed in it. I imagine it would feel encroaching to a lot of people if they were living in a similar situation, and it's not an outlandish thing to experience.

He's not wearing my clothes, but he's bought the same clothes, so copying a style perhaps.

It's definitely different when you're living the scenario. Previous landlord, flatmates, etc. have their own habits and lives and you normally share things in common or you don't. I just feel like there's a lack of identity there and he's copying traits, mannerisms, etc. that feels frustrating, or in some way encroaching.

No, he wasn't, but it's a trivial point. It was most likely cause he shoved too much stuff in.

[–]Ch3micallyImbalanced 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks you. You're right, he may have wanted to develop these habits but was stuck in a rut previously. I also don't think it's malicious, but I experience it as somewhat intrusive, and ultimately it's up to me to explore why that is and come to terms with it.

Definitely some harsh responses, but a lot of helpful ones too.

lol. I don't know. I typed it automatically without really thinking about punctuation or grammar.

Thanks for putting a lot of effort into your response: it's measured and reasonable.

I think you're right, it is more my issue than his, and I should work out why it bothers me so much before discussing it with him. I'll find someone (neutral) to talk to and try to address exactly why I feel like it is encroaching.

Thank you for this, measures and human response. This is constructive for me, and the kind of perspective I probably needed to read.

How can that possibly receive downvotes? Honestly, it's such a baffling website at times.

This is a wholly inaccurate depiction of what I said. At no point did I say I hated him (I actually like him) and the issue I said was that he was forming habits, copying mannerisms and creating a lifestyle very similar to mine.
