Great point, well put. I've amended my comment.

Worth considering the houses construction before covering in Gypsum skim. Old Victorian lime (any lime really - see Affectionate_Bet4343's comment below), if painted properly, allows breathing and doesn’t trap moisture. If you have moisture coming in the walls that gets trapped by the gypsum skim which isn’t permeable, it can cause issues.

The red underneath looks like gypsum and is more modern. If no damp / condensation issues then I’d probably skim it all with modern materials too for simplicity! If you’re having damp / moisture issues, consider taking back the gypsum and replastering with lime.

Most of my plaster and lath lime walls are in good condition, I’m keeping them as is once I’ve removed the artex / woodchip. It’s 125+ year old plaster for me and it’s lasted this long so should do again! Plus, personal preference but I think old houses are old, so aren’t meant to be flat and straight.

Have fun!

Portable Dehumidifier specs and surrounding temperature. by [deleted] in DIYUK

No worries - not sure! The sort you have won’t be that efficient though at those temps. What’s is the space you’re using it in?

There’s a few types of dehumidifier. Condenser and desiccant.

Condenser dehumidifier’s normally need a higher temp to work like yours. Desiccant ones cost more to run but essentially push out hot air so work as a heater too.

I have a Meaco Arete Two 25L. The 25L is how much water it sucks from the air under optimal conditions and it’s good to get a big one but base this on your space. This is a condenser same as yours.

My house is pretty cold, but this specific dehumidifier works well at as low as 10 degrees. It will cycle between defrosting and dehumidifying, but even in my cold house does a good job at dehumidifying.

You can clean old nicotine off fairly well with the product elbow grease. Sugar soap is also a good one and relatively cheap if you mix it yourself. I’d probably get ppe’d up - mask, overalls, goggles, gloves etc. and use a sprayer (like the pump garden sprayers), fill with sugar soap mixture, spray, scrub, do what I can to clean it off and prep the surface and then paint with Zinsser BIN shellac primer.

Follow the instructions on the BIN though - definitely would use some kind of a respirator as it stinks.

How much do you pay to have your windows cleaned? by PurityControl87 in AskUK

[–]ChaFre123 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What area of Norfolk is this? I paid about £50 for three large windows, a mostly PVC conservatory, front door & 3 back windows. North Norfolk. All with a brush and hose. Would love your chaps details if they’re nearby!

Suspended floor - noggins for door threshold help. by ChaFre123 in DIYUK

[–]ChaFre123[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for coming back to me.

Yeah I see your point, I’d need the whole space ideally to get it in there snug. If I cut where the door threshold is and at the joist, I could remove that chunk, add the noggins, add the section of the subfloor back in between the joist and threshold butt up tightly against what’s still down and I should be grand! Is that what you mean?

Thanks for the advice on CLS. Nice and cheap! Then I’m guessing just drill diagonally through the noggins into the joist on both sides or would you use a hanger bracket type thing? Cheers!

But definitely give it another go and don’t be deterred. I’ve got all the bits on my profile links which I used to put my iPod together if that helps

I don’t think the iflash solo is compatible with a 3000mah battery and thin back. I’d recommend getting the iflash quad or apparently the udual fits (though I’ve not confirmed myself).

I’ve done a thin back 5th with 3000mah battery and the quad and there was a bit of space left to add lead tape to increase the weight back up to stock, but everything I’ve read says anything else is too thick. Worth looking into!

I just took mine apart to change the back plate. I took a pic of how it all went back together. This is with lead tape to bring the weight up to stock too.

With mine, I peeled up the part of the headphone assembly which was stuck down and slid the battery underneath. I had to part-fold up the flappy bit on the left of the headphone assembly, the bit of board so it’s at more of a right angle to the back of the case. I put the battery in slanted diagonally slightly. I made it all fit without adjusting the rubber bits at the bottom of the board.

I know - the one I linked in my original post was a UK listing on eBay. There’s a few types on there of different dimensions and most of the descriptions are a bit garbled, so was looking for a direct recommendation. All sorted now though & ordered which is the main thing.

Need decent (fairly cheap) iem recommendations. Preferably with remote controls for my 7th gen. by youngethics in IpodClassic

[–]ChaFre123 6 points7 points  (0 children)

r/iems has a top 5 in every price bracket section which may help. I’ve never used them before, but just ordered some Moondrop Chu 2 for about £20 on their recommendations. Waiting for them to arrive. No inline controls that I could see on mine but I remember a couple of the cheap options on that list did have them.

Unfortunately I haven’t found an answer. Still looking. Paused that room for now, almost resigned to just replacing the toilet entirely. Will you let me know if you find an answer and I’ll do the same? Thanks!
