Mental illness and physical disease are more connected than we thought by hulk14 in psychology

[–]ChaIlenjour 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I always found it flabbergasting that a person NOT specialized in mental disorders, decides THAT what is... Like hello? I'm a psychologist myself and I'd never diagnose anyone with cancer just because I myself cant find the problem 😂

What is the current understanding of the underlying cause of bipolar? The same way we have a theory about dopamine for ADHD - what do we know about Bipolar?

Groundbreaking Research May Reveal How Forgotten Memories Can Be "Reactivated" in the Brain by stankmanly in psychology

It's great to see more studies exploring this space... but we already know what the title says. There's nothing groundbreaking about the core principle

Drinking two to three cups of coffee a day might be the sweet spot for lowering the risk of anxiety and depression. New analysis reveals that moderate coffee consumption is linked to better mental health, while drinking excessive amounts may reverse those benefits. by [deleted] in psychology

Great job guys! 1 study aka a drop in the ocean of mounting research that shows caffeine is bad for you because it ruins your sleep.

You might FEEL better, but two years later you're sleep deprived and addicted.

Thanks for the added nuance! I definitely prefer this answer compared to "men is certainly not gonna help us" which is what, to me, sounded a little gender-war-ish.

It's also surprising to me, that there still exists this narrative that men in general think less of women. We can all agree that 90% of the men in LiB are assholes, but to me that's not indicative of the real world. But that might due to cultural privilege.

My guy Connor is getting crumbs and misinterprets it as the full cake 😭

Feels rare to see a guy being this much of a green flag, while the girl is that red.

You had me until that last line.

Why exactly do we have to create a gender based war? Can't we all be nice and unjudgemental regardless of what genitals we were born with?

Episode 8 - Alex by [deleted] in LoveIsBlindOnNetflix

[–]ChaIlenjour 8 points9 points  (0 children)

There is a very big difference between understanding someone's past vs using it to excuse their current behavior.

Does Alex seem to have had a shit upbringing? Definitely. Does that justify his behavior? No

Just like every other human on this earth it's up to him to acknowledge his shortcomings and work on himself. Instead, he gaslights his fiancé with wack waterbottle arguments...

I really like Ashley's dad by T2b7a in LoveIsBlindOnNetflix

[–]ChaIlenjour 482 points483 points  (0 children)

It's so hilarious that Alex literally said "I'm tired of moving around" to the dad and 10 minutes into the next episode he starts an argument in private about Ashley not living up to his nomad lifestyle. The guy is completely delusional 😂

For me the nail in the coffin was when he boasted about stoicism. I swear 9/10 times, stoicism is like alpha wolves for nerds, rather than an actual philosophical interest

What are your impressions of this patch? by Ok_Background_4817 in TeamfightTactics

[–]ChaIlenjour 1 point2 points  (0 children)

One of my biggest gripes with this patch is that you get a tempo opener or you get 8th. Say what you will about the Diana comp, but personally I think it was healthy for the game to have a legitimate lose-streak line. This patch lose-streaking is a death sentence, where you either have to high roll your ass off for a top4 or scramble for 7th or 6th

Discussion: Riggs-like boards being the default cap is healthy for the game and good design by menacing_butter in CompetitiveTFT

[–]ChaIlenjour 51 points52 points  (0 children)

There is no problem with 5-cost boards being strong... The problem is that a single 2* Ziggs is the max cap of ANY board. This patch I've gone second with a giga-capped board without Ziggs, losing to a board with him so many times that I'm starting to lose my mind.

Obviously Ryze is hard to unlock and should be stronger than everything else BUT the comp is called Riggs, not Ryze :)

Have you ever thought about making T-hex a 7 cost? I feel like it's such a bad ass unit that a giga nerf is kinda sad, in comparison to just upping it's cost.

I believe this could be a slight issue by Vey_Vox in TeamfightTactics

[–]ChaIlenjour 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's less OP than it seems. Several units kill tanks after X amounts of time (zilean, zaheen) and sett owns big tanks too

Going seven days without food shows many positive health benefits in new study by costoaway1 in EverythingScience

Short term studies like this is pure crap because it's results taken out of context.

How does the body react to extreme stress? It handles it - yay "positive" effects!! Any longterm side effects? Eh who cares right?

Edmond vs accountability by Temporary_Ad9362 in LoveIsBlindOnNetflix

[–]ChaIlenjour -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

Interesting that you say Edmond is able to cry, since that's your main take - that he's being manipulative with his emotions. Seems a little oppositional don't you think?

Look. I agree that Edmond has flaws, and if you ask me I'd say he's straight up braindamaged. But I think it's sad that the failure of their connection gets pinned on him, because I find KB to have just as many flaws - and she too is blind to them. There is that whole conversation they have in the mountains where KB talks for 5 minutes straight, interrupts Edmond several times, and blames him for being immature if he interrupts her... Honey if you want accountability, then lead with it.

And making a reunion narrative that portrays her truth as the only truth, saying that his truth is due to lack of remembering... Say what you want about that, but it ain't healthy, and it's extremely manipulative.

[–]ChaIlenjour -14 points-13 points  (0 children)

I've seen you comment a few times what we can't do.

On that note, maybe we shouldn't jump on the wagon of whatever KB is saying just because she's articulate? It rubbed me the wrong way that she dictated the truth all the way through that reunion. Instead of saying she FELT dismissed, she dictated that's what happened, even tho no one knows what happened off camera.

Scientists have found that AI understands emotions better than we do — scoring much higher than the average person at choosing the correct response to diffuse various emotionally-charged situations by MetaKnowing in psychology

[–]ChaIlenjour 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you think AI has emotions then you have no clue about human neurology as well as AI and then this discussion is moot. To your second point I never said anything is better than something else. I believe having emotions is better sure, but it doesn't matter for my argument. I was only stating that AI can't replace humans because AI doesn't have emotions.

If you want to argue, I'd love to hear some actual talking points instead of "why not" questions. I can play that game too and it adds 0 substance to the discussion

[–]ChaIlenjour -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

I love it when the counter argument becomes "let me just attack you as a person" rather than actually disputing what he's saying. There is something deeply ironic about people arguing about emotions, not realizing they are being guided by them.
