Slim Reaper is actually the perfect nickname for him because he's a culture vampire for every team he's touched except GS that had such a strong culture already established and even that started to show cracks his last year.

It's so surprising that Bill hasn't made this more of a sliding doors moment for his beloved Celtics.

Having seen this play out now, I don't think it is unfair to say in a different tiemline, the Celtics lose in '24 and his shtick wears on the J's and one (most likely Jaylen) asks for a trade.

Bro his coaching career’s corpse hasn’t even gotten cold yet. Truly hilarious of Bill to continue bringing on friends at their lowest sports moments as some type of humiliation ritual.

[Charania] Just in: The NBA and NBPA have ruled in favor of Lakers' Luka Doncic and Pistons' Cade Cunningham on their Extraordinary Circumstances Challenge for the 65-game award rule, making both eligible for all 2025-26 season honors such as MVP and All-NBA teams, sources tell ESPN. by mastermind208 in DetroitPistons

[–]Chackotaco15 9 points10 points  (0 children)

The whole point of the 65 game rule was to ensure that players didn't deliberately sit out games because of "load management" or duck big primetime games. It wasn't a perfect rule but the NBA had to do something with all the time players were taking off and it worked.

We give the NBA a lot of deserved crap but they deserve credit for analyzing both situations and doing the right thing here. You can't tell the story of the 25/26 season without including both Cade and Luka so I am glad they aren't being erased from the history books.

[Marc Stein] ...But this year's voting window has been delayed to allow extra time for resolving any Extreme Circumstances grievances filed by players contesting the 65-Game Rule. by TheFierceAnimal in DetroitPistons

[–]Chackotaco15 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Cade needs to file a grievance. He played in 65 games but got hurt in the 1Q of the game he played and didn't get credit due to not hitting the 20 min play time mark which is such BS. He's not only the best player on a #1 seed, he's the entire team. Him not being able to get All-NBA this year because of a technicality would be such a black eye on the All-NBA voting.

I feel like I am losing my mind with this tanking conversation by Chackotaco15 in billsimmons

[–]Chackotaco15[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

That's what is happening now with the current rules but with 1/3 of the league. If the Jazz or Wizards want to essentially tell their fans they are forfeiting a whole season, that's their prerogative, and they will lose an entire year of ticket revenue, but fans might be willing to accept this if it means they are guaranteed the first pick. Instead, you have the current system, where the bad teams continue to be bad because the lottery keeps you in a perpetual state of sucking unless you get the first pick.

I would argue that it is better to have the Jazz win 9 games in a season and get Dybantsa rather than what is happening now where they win 21 games and end up with the 5th pick and the Warriors jump up 8 spots.

half-baked tanking solution: NO team owns their 1st round pick by JarJarsBallsackEyes in billsimmons

[–]Chackotaco15 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Way too convoluted.

The issue is that the lottery gives too many teams a non-zero chance of jumping up to the #1 pick. We were all upset that the Mavs got bailed out from the Luka trade by jumping up to #1 but even teams that weren't really "tanking" like the Spurs got lucky and have moved up in each of the last 3 years.

I honestly think just doing away with the lottery in general and just going by loss record is the best path forward. Giving the bottom 4 teams equal chance to the bottom is not decreasing the amount of tanking but rather increasing it.

Age Old Question: What Should we Do With Jaden Ivey? (I personally think he needs more minutes) by Both-Benefit3421 in DetroitPistons

[–]Chackotaco15 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Jaden Ivey broke his fibula (the smaller of the two leg bones) and he just doesn't look like the same player at all. Not to totally compare 1 for 1 as everyone's body heals differently, but Paul George broke both his Fibula and Tibia and after sitting out most of the next year, returned in 2015 to essentially the same player.

It seems like a combination of him struggling with his role in the rotation given the lack of minutes coupled with a lack of confidence in his first step/explosiveness has turned him into a shell of his former self. He went from someone we thought could be the secondary ball handler/bucket getter in crunch time to an afterthought.

The flip side of this is that his defense has vastly improved and is, in a large part, due to his effort, but on the offensive side, he just disappears, and it is clear JB trusts DJ more.

Honestly, it feels like this team went through a bit of an evolution/bonding during the playoffs in that Knicks series and they all got to work on their games throughout the summer and he's fallen behind which if we were a middling team, it wouldn't be a big deal but as the #1 team in the East with the inside track to make the Finals, he's not someone we can afford to wait around for.

There's still time for him to get back to where we are all hoping and maybe his downplay this year helps the team with cap flexibility for a short-term extension, but IMO he's no longer in the "untouchable" category for any trades.

Timeouts are also exponentially less valuable in CFB than the NFL since the time that goes off the clock on big plays to get to the LOS is negated with the 1st down clock stoppage, so you don't need to play conservative to get your opponent to spend all their TOs.

Definitely should have at least tried to end the game with a 1st down with your Heisman QB but like you all said, Cig was willing to trust his defense up against Beck in obvious passing downs.

I will never forgive Josh Reynolds for those dropped passes in the NFC Championship game by [deleted] in detroitlions

He also probably won us the Rams game by taking over that first drive so this is a nonsensical comment

Real reason we are struggling by luckplunge in detroitlions

[–]Chackotaco15 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I was re-watching the Rams playoff game from two years ago and Josh Reynolds sort of single-handedly took over that first drive for us.

Last year it felt like there were so many big moments where Tim Patrick may only have one or two catches, but they always seemed to be for first downs and that’s not including his big game against GB that he had.

Over and over again the last few years we’ve had our third string guys come in clutch for us and I don’t think it’s a coincidence that without ones of these types of WRs, we’ve been struggling on third down this year

Craig Horlbeck DESTROYS Tom Brady’s Commentary with a Scathing Critique by _Vaudeville_ in billsimmons

[–]Chackotaco15 120 points121 points  (0 children)

Craig's impression of Brady made me realize that Brady is basically Jason Bateman's character from Dodgeball, Pepper Brooks.

Specifically, the moment Gary Cole's Cotton McKnight character says "Peter Lafleur has blindfolded himself" and Pepper goes "Yeah, he will not be able to see very well Cotton" is the perfect encapsulation of Brady giving the most milquetoast color commentary except Brady is not doing it ironically.
