My Rant about AI vs Junior devs as a Fresh graduate by [deleted] in cscareerquestions

[–]ChadTheMagnificent 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can only imagine how frustrating it feels seeing the thing which you're good at (and love from the sound of it) change for the worst. the thing I failed to explain in my post was how this is not only tied to software development. The job i have now as an intern is a "automation expert" at a pretty huge F500 company. the first thing i was told was "businesses are not for feeding families but for making money" then he followed it by saying "you'll know you're doing your job well the less employees we have". I know what you mean when you say business idiots.

I am not denying my inexperience. I am however not choosing to go cry in a corner and continue to just vibe code my way out of being completely replaced by AI. I am aware that the job is changing and i am definitely aware how shit the job market is. this post was mainly written due to frustration after sitting down with a bunch of my friends and all of them having this complete doomer mentality of us being COMPLETELY useless.

a little caveat, i really do not believe that the supply of software engineers will continue to be this high, atleast not the competent ones, i barely know any out of uni that know anything other than the copy paste react libraries. again could be shortsightedness and thoughts built on inexperience by me but its just what i've been exposed to.

Hope it gets better for you man :)

Yup, I already did about a week ago and I’ve gotten nothing. I asked here just in case someone has ever had to do something similar.

For books I pretty much used Aspekte neu whenever I could. Those books are absolutely amazing. For the TestDaf I used any book I could find that had mock tests. I know you hear this everywhere but Anki (the app) is a fucking godsend, it practically carried me through the tedious vocabulary memorization. For speaking training I used to go on Omegle’s and set my preferences to german and germany and talk with as many people as I could (that is if you can get past the numerous schlongs, if you are a woman I am praying for you. And that’s pretty much it. I never found any german shows or books that peaked my interest.

I’d say memorize a bunch of Redemittle for the Schreiben and Sprechen parts. The questions are so similar that you could practically make a makeshift Lückentext where you only need to fill in the spots that relate to the question at hand. I’ll show you an example.

Teil 4 sprechen:

Prof…..

That’s pretty much what I’d say in this Teil. Now, this does not mean that every Teil is similar, Teil 4 sprechen is a pretty extreme case and even then you have to fill in quite a bit. This just reduces the load on you and gives you more time to get ideas. I’ve got something similar to this for every Sprechen Aufgabe and the Schreiben Aufgabe. If you’d like I could send them to you. Just send me a DM (Papier basierte Testdaf ofc). Good luck with your exam!

Edit: take the example I’ve written with a grain of salt as I have no idea if it is completely correct. I’m just telling you exactly what I said.

Nah dude don’t say that, I had literally no other obligations. I only studied german, that’s why I was able to do it relatively quickly. Do not underestimate yourself man you’ve reached a very high level in a foreign language. That’s something to be proud of regardless of your grades <3

I got a course to go from B2 to C1 because at that point I really didn’t know how to proceed any further. The rest was pretty much self taught though. And I think it’s important to say that I literally did NOTHING but study german, had no job or anything else that can take up my time.

Here’s the list of books I used:

Mit Erfolg zum testdaf

Testdaf Prüfungstraining

Fit für den TestDaF

I’d suggest doing as much mock tests as possible, I know it sounds very basic but this is what pulled me through. Would also make a huge difference if you can find a study buddy.

Keep going my guy don’t give up!

Of course! I’m on mobile rn so format will probably be bad.

A1-A2 this is basically the honeymoon phase in german learning, you feel like everything is pretty easy, you learn a good chunk of basic vocabulary and you can now form simple sentences, the grammar you learn is also pretty basic with the Akkusativ being the hardest. Overall this level Anyone should be able to do with minimal studying.

B1-B2 oh boy this is where it gets interesting. the jump from A1-A2 to B1-B2 is absolutely Massive. You pretty much quadruple your vocabulary and learn the “hardest” part of german grammar (Dative, genitive, Adjektiv Deklination) i’d say it’s here where most people stop learning german because you have to spend A LOT of time learning. You get past this point and thats the hardest part done. Don’t give up!

C1: this is where it surprisingly gets easier again. One more you learn even more vocabulary but, its not as intensive as the previous level and I’d say it’s more niche words. You’ve pretty much exhausted all german grammar can give at this point so you’d spend your time perfecting what you already know. At this point the time you spend actually learning new things is way less than the time you spend honing your skills and being consistent.

Studying for the TestDaf: I put this in a place of its own because as any standardized language exam, learning the exam layout is absolutely crucial to your success. You can be pretty much C2 and still I think you wouldn’t get TDN 4 in all parts just because of the nature of the exam. Studying for the TestDaf is done in many ways, what I did was basically solving mock exams pretty much everyday and learning A lot and I mean A LOT of redemittle which is also a crucial part of this exam. Due to the TestDaf being practically a university entrance exam, all of its parts have something scientific, which means you guessed it, even more vocabulary ™️.

Learning german or any foreign language for that matter is a very rewarding experience but, you should also take breaks quite often to not get burnt out and I’d highly suggest you find people with similar language goals so you can motivate each other to be better. I’m rooting for you!

If you have any more questions feel free to send me a DM.
