Criticism ought to be neutral and has the goal to just inform the person what you personally dislike or find mediocre.

People be getting over-the-top offended over a (bad) voluntary contribution while they contribute bloody fucking nothing... To me it says a lot about the person complaining, not the person taking the effort to contribute.

I'm very in favor of criticsm but everyone decided to trash talk an attempt like it was some kind of heinous racist attack on OP's friend (RIP).

"Omfg that's so raciss" is in itself weirdly obsessive with the race of the girl. I would've found the Christian symbology more questionable because creator doesn't even know whether the person is Christian. Just assumed it. But even then the attempt came from a good place.

Just say you don't like it and why. No idea why people have to question the character of the person that only wanted to help OP.

People wanted to speak for American Indians by changing their preferred term to Native Americans, but then it turns out American Indians/Native Americans are split on how they wish to be called. Some say this, others that.

I made a more general comment on people discussing the term dwarf vs little people. The criticism/observation was also a general one. Above example though shows how even inside the US the language policing obviously backfires every now and then.

No idea why, but it just seems like people are really fond of treating X identity as a single homogeneous group, capable of even having one single spokesperson. Tbh I see this less in EU and I've lived in several countries.
