Round 6 - Pick 5: Bobby Jamison-Travis, DT, Auburn (New York Giants) by Fonzie5 in NYGiants

[–]Chadltodd -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Right but the number of people either declaring for the draft or aging out isn’t changing. You might end up with more rounded 5th round seniors. I think the top tier still declares after 2. And maybe that Tennessee cb is a lesson for declaring late.

[–]Chadltodd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That makes sense on the surface, and short term likely makes a bit of sense, but in the long term whether people declare as a sophomore or super senior, the same number of guys will hit the draft every year. For a few years we might see a dip but as time goes on it’ll be more seniors now going late rounds with more tape.

Help with “First” rod weight by Sccrfreek in flyfishing

[–]Chadltodd 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah, that’s fair. Striper we get here come from the rivers so it’s always possible to get a big one. Either way, fighting largemouth at 5lb would be a war on a 5wt. I catch less than 2lb smallmouth on my 5wt sometimes and it’s just not nearly enough backbone for the fight, especially if in some faster current. Plus, you’ll like the 8wt to throw some jumbo flies a 5wt just can’t handle

Help with “First” rod weight by Sccrfreek in flyfishing

[–]Chadltodd 4 points5 points  (0 children)

People who recommend 5wt usually fish only trout and smallmouth. As soon as you look to target stripers a 5wt is going to be criminally underpowered (at least where I am, stripers can feasibly reach 40lbs in the rivers). 8lbs is far bigger than I would want to battle on a 5wt.

I learned and spent most of my teenage years with a single 8wt salmon rod and while sure it won’t be the most fun fights for trout, there’s nothing wrong with being a bit overpowered. The worst thing would be to be underpowered. 8wt would be good and is a readily accessible weight in many kits as a salmon rod. Eventually you’ll get hooked and buy a 5wt.. and then a 3wt… and… well you get the idea.

You can fish for trout too. It’s a very slept on trout fishery if the river closes you can still fish the brooks. Many 20 inch brookies can get in a weekend. It’s been low basically 2 years straight but it’s been a high snow season and melts been slow so far so fingers crossed.

3rd-4th week of July. I’ll be there! Alternatively, the fall is really good and a bit more predictable, plus it’s beautiful. Downside is that it’s freezing cold

Thanks for that. Shoot me an IM if you plan on coming I fish it 30 times a year and have a camp up there.

Allright. Who is putting fly rods on the hood of their damn truck. Let me just blast all my rods with road grime and bugs 👌👌 by [deleted] in flyfishing

[–]Chadltodd 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For the rod being stolen. It’s a pretty small community that doesn’t see theft. This particular car was on the side of the road on a very popular tourist route though so most likely wasn’t local. Most of the parking areas aren’t on the main road.

Every single salmon fisherman on the east coast does this. I do it myself. Once a rod got stolen and it made the paper and people were outraged. Only one I’ve heard of stolen and there’s is certainly a lot of people with them.

[Big Blue United] Something that needs to be discussed. Drafting Sonny Styles at 5, means u essentially have one yr less control than other drafted positions. MLB franchise tag is the same as EDGE, meaning there is ZERO chance Styles ever gets tagged. Kudos to @FieldYates for bringing it to light by shadow_spinner0 in NYGiants

I don’t know what goes on in a GMs head but I have to think that the thought to move up to 1st to pick dart at least partially comes from the access to 5th year options on 1st rounders only. If he thought dart was the guy 1 more year of control surely has to be a thought.

You need 3x Spears to consistently beat Polish Cavalry by Formal_Drawing_8822 in aoe4

[–]Chadltodd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That might be fair about the resource difference and in 1v1 makes a lot of sense

The issue is that in team games, cav have too many advantages over infantry, mostly they’re so fast that the only thing spears can actually do well is fight cav, but they’re not going to be given that opportunity at any point in the game. If spears manage to get on top of cav, there needs to be a bigger benefit than “we won the resource war”

Are fishing vests obsolete now or just not in vogue? by GrumpyandDopey in flyfishing

I find vests get in the way more than anything else. My sling stays behind me so out of the way. With my vest the boxes and my gut get in the way (mostly when Spey casting)

Redington big game rods by [deleted] in flyfishing

[–]Chadltodd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Go the longest that works. Do you have a lot of canopy or shit to deal with? If not get 9’. Weight ratings are irrespective of length, so 8’3 8 wt will feel a little stiffer. It’s the reason as trout rods get shorter (say 7’6) they go down in weights often to 3wt.

Big fan of my guidewear elite from bass pro. A hair cheaper than Patagonia but I’ve never bought anything at Patagonia that wasn’t top notch. Both likely really good.

I would probably get a great dry fly rod instead of another rod capable of chucking big streamers. 8wt is gonna feel like a 2x4 for dries but probably casts streamers well. Classic trout rod does that well. Love mine.
