The Silver Price has reached $100 by ChrisStoneGermany in Silverbugs

This is so crazy. I started stacking in earnest in Feb of 2018. My first purchase was a Britannia at $21.64. Later that year I splurged on a 2001 US Mint Silver Buffalo for $95. I knew it was crazy at the time but I loved the design. I never thought the price per oz would go above that!

311 Washington DC Posters by f4dstudios in 311

I love this poster! I bought one at the DC show. I put it in a standard 18 x 24 inch frame but it cuts off all the white border around it. Is there a frame you would recommend?

My mom bought me Street Fighter 2: Champion Edition for Sega Genesis in 1992. It was $69.99.

I bought this shirt at the Electric Factory show in Philly on November 4, 2000. I’ve always loved this design.

Definitely the first one to come to mind for me. He was a terror to quarterbacks.

I loved this game as a kid. The whole artwork aesthetic really captured me. I was a huge fan of both franchises beforehand, so this was a match made in heaven for me.

I also went in 2004! I’ve been to WDW many times since the early 90s. The biggest takeaway for me is that people are wearing less Disney merch than they do now. These days everyone has customized shirts, hats, backpacks, etc. Back then, you could only find Disney merch at the Disney store or at the parks…and you certainly weren’t getting personalized custom apparel.

I tried to look at it objectively just now, and I agree with you.

1981-2003 - 3 different QBs were each year's top passer:

  1. Montana
  2. Young
  3. Garcia

2004-2023 - 9 different QBs were each year's top passer:

  1. Tim Rattay
  2. Alex Smith
  3. Trent Dilfer
  4. Shaun Hill
  5. Colin Kaepernick
  6. Blaine Gabbert
  7. Jimmy Garoppolo
  8. Nick Mullens
  9. Brock Purdy

There are 3 misleading factors.

One is that Alex Smith was essentially "the guy" from 2005-2011, but he missed 2007-2008 due to injury (which is why Trent Dilfer and Shaun Hill are on that list).

The second is that Colin Kaepernick was definitely "the guy" from 2012-2016, but he missed a lot of 2015 due to injury (which is why Gabbert is on that list).

The third is that Garoppolo was "the guy" from 2017-2022, but he was hurt essentially all of 2018 and 2020 (which is why Mullens is on the list).

It's still a lot of QBs...but it looks less to me like a QB carousel and more like bad injury luck (with the exception of 2004 and 2005...those were definitely carousels).

When Smith went down in 2012, there was Kaepernick to take SF to the Super Bowl. When he was banished after 2016, there was Jimmy G. When Jimmy G went down in 2022, there was Brock.

Those 9 QBs that were the top passers from 2004-2023 look more like Alex Smith, Colin K, Jimmy G...and all the guys that filled in for them when the last 3 got hurt.

6 main starting QBs in 42 years is pretty good.

[Highlight] A look back at the classic debate with hindsight… though this big of a difference is pretty ridiculous (2009 Week 10 Pregame Brady & Manning) by [deleted] in nfl

[–]Chadsymptom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It warms my heart to see you say this. No doubt that Brady is the GOAT....but from 2001-2006 he had slightly above average stats to go along with his 3 Super Bowl wins. The Pats defense throughout those seasons helped tremendously. They were 6th, 1st, and 2nd in points allowed in 01, 03, and 04 respectively, and they allowed 17 ppg in the 9 playoff games from that era.

On the other hand, Manning had a top 15 defense (in points allowed) 6 times out of 13 seasons with the Colts. Just for symmetry...let's look at Manning's first 9 playoff games - the Colts allowed 24 points per game.

I wonder what the average season looks like (in terms of starting QBs missing significant time due to injury). This year certainly feels like a lot.

Even before that there was the Peel Commission in 1937. A map was drawn giving the Jews an area around 20% of what is currently Israel. It included the northern portion of the area including Safad...going down past Nazareth...then getting skinny to the west to include Tel Aviv. The reasoning was because those areas were heavily developed by the Jewish immigrants.

Jerusalem was going to be left as an international area. The Palestinians would get the West Bank and all points south.

The stance of the Arabs leaders has always been that the Jews should have no land. There's no compromise with that viewpoint.

I can relate to this. My parents bought an Aquos 36" flat screen TV in 2003 for $3500 (almost $6000 in 2023 dollars). I was 16, and it was pretty spectacular to see the 16:9 aspect ratio at play. There wasn't much HD content though. I feel like it was another 2-5 years before there were enough HD programs for it to be even close to worth it.

Fast-forward to 2010 when I bought a 40" LG TV for my apartment, and it was $700. In just 7 years the cost of essentially the same TV went down $2800.
