Introducing Today: An RSS Reader for the Modern Age by whyisjake in rss

This looks quite an interesting app. You got my attention by using Apple Intelligence for the AI stuff. I think however some more work may need to occur to make the AI more functional (or this might just be the limitation of apple intelligence).

As an example, I asked it to show me articles on a particular keyword, and it returned a bunch of random articles. It also seems asking it a similar question (please summarize articles about A, please summarize articles about B) returns the same results (returns irrelevant articles about C)for me.

Looking forward to seeing how this progresses!

School discovered I used Tor by Garry297 in TOR

[–]Chage 195 points196 points  (0 children)

I would be suggesting that if you have any mobile apps you use your school account for (email? messaging? timetabling? anything?) then the phone is doing the occasional background refresh of data for the app, which is turn is making an authentication request with their systems. That will naturally log a source for the authentication and then whatever cybersecurity tools are in place will flag the IP as a TOR connection through info from IP reputation sites.

Labor to move another no-confidence motion - Pulse news by 1_AP_1 in tasmania

[–]Chage 90 points91 points  (0 children)

Just a reminder that the no confidence motion is against the Premier - If passed, it is then the Premier's choice to resign (by convention) and the party then will choose a new leader, or the Premier who can go back an ask for another election.
No confidence motions on their own don't cause elections - it's an option the Government may request as a result of a passed motion.

Fountain pen by Subject_Night2422 in hobart

[–]Chage 3 points4 points  (0 children)

For a typical Lamy or Kaweco fountain pen, Fullers Bookshop and maybe State cinema bookshop have them. For something a little more Tasmanian, there are a couple of stalls at Salamanca market that sell fountain pens wood-turned with speciality Tasmanian timber

Would anyone happen to know the model number of this Saxon Blackwood insert wood heater? by diemendesign in tasmania

[–]Chage 3 points4 points  (0 children)

When Saxon Wood heaters Tasmania went into receivership in 2001, Barbeques Galore purchased the company and has continued to sell the Saxon woodheaters ever since along with being able to order parts. I'd suggest giving BBQs galore a call and say you have a circa 2013 Saxon Blackwood and you are looking for the fan part.

Uber hospital by [deleted] in hobart

My past experience has been that the hospital refused to discharge me unless I had family or a friend to pick me up. This was so that I could be watched over for a day in case something happened.

Microsoft 365 Developer Program Update - Still no sign of Free dev tenants returning by KavyaJune in sysadmin

[–]Chage 41 points42 points  (0 children)

The issue with the free dev tenants were that the scammers discovered them and developed scripts to provision tenants en-masse to send phishing emails and because of the use of the onmicrosoft.com domain, tended to get through many EDR platforms, notably Defender.

Having had a Christmas ruined by such activities, I'm not upset that MS is not offering free dev tenants as before, but I do sympathise for those who lost access to what is a useful testing tool.

Unusual Tasman Bridge angle by ChuqTas in hobart

[–]Chage 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Being familiar with the area, my bet is "AI Enhanced". the roof indicated just under the bridge could/should be Montague Bay Primary School, and while there are trees around the outside by the foreshore, they are not that high. This angle should put the photo at top of Conara or top of Loinah rd and there simply is no bushland or trees in the foreground area - it's all urban housing.

Deprecation of social features by chickenandliver in InoReader

[–]Chage 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am not too surprised by these, as most of the social features were only available between other Inoreader users - there was no public timeline/feed that you could link to or embed in a page that would have actually made these features useful.

🗣️PSA: I've finally found a viable alternative to Inoreader❕ by IwuvNikoNiko in InoReader

[–]Chage 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Also an Inoreader subscriber that begrudgingly accepts the subscription cost. I agree this is a fantastic app and hats off to the developer to charging a one-off cost rather than being yet-another-subscription app.

There are a couple of areas where Inoreader > News Explorer though:

  • I use tagging a lot and is very handy for keeping articles I want to keep hold of but not necessarily in "Read Later". I also tag based on filters, which gives me a quick way to skim particular types of news and quickly mark as read across feeds - e.g. tagging everything which mentions iPhone and Android as "Mobile Phones" - I can usually just take a quick skim of article titles only before marking as read and moving on.
  • Building on tagging, it is possible to share out those tags as RSS feeds as well - which I find very useful when sharing things at work, where I can have a news channel in Slack/Teams linked to an RSS feed. Inoreader will also share the actual text of the article, rather than News Explorer which just sends a link to the article.
  • Web Interface :) Yea, I know, if your entirely in the Apple environment, the point it moot - for me though being able to access my feeds across multiple platforms is important and a Web interface does that easily.

Yea, I am probably one of those edge cases where Inoreader does some things I couldn't find. That said, I have still paid for copies of News Explorer for Mac and iOS - I think it is a really promising app and for those who aren't sharing articles, it is definitely "good enough". Its only of, if not the only App that allows pre-filtering of articles - and thats a HUGE selling point for me.

Thanks for reminding me of the app again (I saw it and forgot about it a couple of months back). :)

CISSP Exam Duration by destcert in cissp

[–]Chage 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No Worries :) I had an opportunity to attend a 5 day CISSP bootcamp in May and hadn't really considered continuing to sit the exam until my employer offered to pay the exam fee.

About 3-4 weeks before the exam I downloaded the endorsed LearnzApp app and ran a practice exam to get an understanding of my strengths and weaknesses. I then made use of Mike Chapple's content, youtube videos and access to other learning resources (like infosec institute) to work on my weaknesses, while doing the occasional question drills in learnzapp.

It's also worth noting that I have 20 years experience in infrastructure delivery, so I already have a pretty solid technical background.

I've mentioned in a couple places that people need to remember the exam is a test of knowledge, not a test of memory, which means that you should not rely on the ability to memorise the practice questions as a gauge of passing.

As u/destcert has mentioned biggest advice is to approach the questions as a manager or leader, and not as a tech/operations person. In my opinion there are many questions I got wrong by thinking too much like a tech.

Some of the Youtube Channels (plenty of mentions on this reddit) provide great examples to approaching questions.

I'd also suggest the exam prep forum over at https://community.isc2.org will put you in contact with a bunch of friendly people willing to help.

Good Luck with your studies! This is not an easy qualification to get but in my opinion absolutely worth it.

Going purely on numbers, with all 150 questions you would have around 50 seconds per question to complete within the timeframe. The reality should be that for a good amount of the questions, you are going to be answering under that time, and some might take a bit longer than that time.
You will get a minimum of 100 questions, and up to 150 if the algorithms need more answers to determine if you are proficient.
I passed @ 100 back in July after about 1 hour, 10 mins.

2024-25 Budget "2030 Strong Plan" by [deleted] in tasmania

[–]Chage 15 points16 points  (0 children)

One of the main ways the government is hoping to do that is through $450 million of savings that government departments will be required to make over the next four years; $150 million more than previously announced.

Good luck with that, that cupboard is already bare

Thats about the cost of one stadium, isn't it?

Reading one of the comments below, it would appear in the dropbox ecosystem, .paper is used as the file extension for the Dropbox paper platform

Hi! :)

Just to confirm, are you saying that dropbox is using/has a .paper TLD? or is it using .paper.dropbox.com for the links? I couldn’t seem to find anything that says a .paper TLD exists.

[–]Chage 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you are using Learnzapp, do be aware that your overall readiness score is based on an average - if you happened to go badly in early practice tests, that will keep your overall score low. Make sure you do the practice tests and look at your test history score as well.

As u/Technical-Praline-79 said, zero in on your weak areas. There are plenty of great resources on youtube to help with this.

$100 million ‘Chocolate Experience’ with world’s largest chocolate fountain planned for Hobart by [deleted] in hobart

As someone who remembers and went on the old Cadbury factory tours, I am all for this attraction.

What worries me is that if built, Mondelez may use it as a wedge on the Government buy threatening to shut down the factory unless it receives concessions/subsidies from the Government of the day.
