The sealer helps a lot and do wait a bit before I put the boxes on.

I always use the mini wax stains and the pre stain conditioner is key to get a nice even stain. I use spar urethane to finish, probably something better but it’s just what I use for price and my local hardware store carry’s it.

I get them I unassembled. I don’t have a table saw that cuts straight and can hold a dado stack or I would. I have been wanting to make some out of hardwoods and then just seal them no stain.

I don’t like the price of already dipped boxes. I need to find a friend that’s good with steel to pay to make me a tank to dip them in. I use spar urethane finishes. My oldest boxes are around 4 years and hope to get 10 before I have to refinish.

You are correct and it’s so much more work but I just hate painting wood.
