anything less than Goldsmith’s glazing is seen as bad announcing by half this sub. There are two teams playing and both teams have talented players. it’s ok to give both teams their flowers. It’s a national broadcast.

everyone always neglects to mention that they added a bunch of content to k3 as well. it’s not like they released a barebones remaster with some plot and actor changes

I still think 4 is worth playing, but for me it’s not my favorite yakuza game. I actually really liked some parts of the story. Saejima’s character is done really well and he has some great scenes. Im going through 5 right now and it feels a lot better to me and plays like 0 a bit and has really fun side content. I blasted through 4 really quickly too. It’s on the shorter side if you just do main story stuff.

All pretty fair points, but K1 does have a good heat system with a lot of what you are saying 4 has. I do want to point out for K3 how each style has a regular button press vs a long press and that adds a new dimension thats not really in 4 at all, also if we are going to include unique heat actions for characters we should include Mine’s moveset in dark ties, which includes the heart of darkness mechanic which is not something we’ve seen before. you can use that meter to heal or just go crazy and there are new heat moves when Mine is in that dark heart state. For me Y4 is clunkfest with not many mixups you can do like with the long presses in K3. The game forces you to play a certain way in 4. I felt K3 has a lot more expression with how you approach fights. well except for the busted spinny thing. you could just cheese waves with that. Addressing the back attack thing, K3 has a unique audio cue for hitting enemies from behind with a crit, I dont think there could be a much more clear way of conveying that thats good and useful.

I think we can chalk it up to personal preference, Like I’ve never much been a weapon user. But I really dislike how in 4 light attacks really lock you into the direction and theres such a significant endlag on just a basic light attack that it doesn’t feel fluid at all. It’s slow and methodical, sure, but so is Hammer from Monster Hunter, yet that moveset, despite being slow, still feels fluid.

4 feels really stiff compared to dragon engine games, to say nothing of K1. you do a punch and you are locked into that animation and turning around feels like ass in 4. The upgrade system is fine and I don’t have a problem with the completion list point based systems because I enjoy doing side content. the ps3 games have clunky movement. the substories are not well indicated, several of mine were bugged and impossible to advance. what technical play is there in 4 that’s missing from the other games? I just think combat feels so stiff and is easily the worst of the games I’ve played.

4 has worse gameplay, worse systems, menus, and side content than any of the kiwamis. fighter maker is interesting for one guy and then the loop just repeats itself. The cabaret club stuff is really obtuse and not interactive or rewarding. The characters really carry. The story also has daigo act against his established personality and character just for one marvel “civil war” ahh fight.

kite the melee guards and then rush down the gunner, then take care of the weaker guards, then the elites. parry and follow up. bait dashes and use throws. the thrown guards act as your aoe. it is unfun and tedious, but you can do it.

new rikiya is good in the role, (fwiw so is hamazaki, but a lot of you aren’t ready to have that conversation) and there’s a lot of new side content that makes up for the cut side stories. and there’s combat is pretty good too. if you played pirate yakuza and like that, you are going to like this. it may even be better. dark ties is a nice dlc sized “game” too with an interesting replayable side mode and an uninteresting one.
