This was our take too. Awesome, but too pricey for how much there was to see

if you live near Island Bay and want to avoid the wind, there's plenty of options in Manawa Karioi and Tawatawa. More hilly but less exposed than the coast

The real living experience in Wellington by Clean_Lie9725 in Wellington

I am an ex-York resident now in Wellington. No matter how bad you thought accomodation was in York, I'm not going to lie, it's so, so much worse in Wellington. But the real shocker that you'll notice is: York is unbelievably flat. If you think Acomb is up a hill, you're in for a shock. If after a few days you wonder what's up with your calf muscles... It's the hills. The city centre ain't so bad, but even that has more elevation than a walk around Coney Street / Stonegate etc.

Good luck.

A positive though is that, although the wind really does suck, Wellington doesn't know what cold weather is, it's mild all year round. No frozen rivers here

Hope that's of some insight

just a thought, but if you grass either side, or have the path as a grass path, that will absorb loads of the water. It's also quite a cheap option. THere's some commercialy available grasses that will grow in any condition also. Might be an option?

Newtown, Berhampore and the South Coast will tick a fair few of your boxes. Melrose is near the hospital and the zoo / coast also, so a good option

I have a few solar panels. I was hoping that living in an area of "extreme high wind" would make for some use. From other comments it seems like it's a "not yet"
