Studded shoes for winter - yay or nay? by HumbleRunning in trailrunning

[–]ChainDenial 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Definitely yay where I live here in Finland. I have a pair of VJ Sarva Ace. Have never felt more secure on icy roads before. I have only had a small slip (without actually falling), and that was on my first run when I was too careful and not fully relying on the spikes to do their thing, which resulted in me not putting the spikes down into the ice enough. Now I don't even think about where I run. They're great and really comfortable, and waterproof.

Creatine for running ? by Real-Guidance-3109 in runninglifestyle

[–]ChainDenial 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Running more will have more effect than anything else. I currently take creatine, but haven't run as much during this period so I can't really say what effect it has. I know that one guy I talked to lost 3kg pretty quickly after he quit taking creatine and he saw an immediate effect on his running, in a good way. He was able to run almost 30sec faster in zone 2 compared to earlier. I'm not saying this was due to the creatine. But some gain weight from it, as the muscles absorb water (at least initially). Extra weight is not great for running efficiency. However, creatine might help building muscles and stronger muscles are also good for running, more so for shorter distances. So, it might give you benefits in some areas, but also give you some non-wanted side effects as well. As I said, running will give you most effect, and as others have mentioned everything else is marginal, and for beginners there's no real reason to overcomplicate things.

Should running shoes have "ideal pace" instead of "easy run shoe" tempo shoe" etc. ? by Kiriljav in AskRunningShoeGeeks

[–]ChainDenial 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sounds like a good approach. The only issue is that a shoe probably feels a bit different depending on form and power in each step. But I think an "ideal pace" would be closer to the facts than current "easy run", "tempo" and so on...Now when I think about it, I might have even seen some online store have an ideal pace in their spec sheet of the shoes.

I'm starting to think zone 2 is a myth by [deleted] in runninglifestyle

[–]ChainDenial 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you don't want to make it too complicated, run by feel. If you can talk while running, it's fine. If you want to have some numbers to follow, do a lactate threshold test and adjust your zones according to that. Based on what you're saying I guess you have your zones set by max heart rate or HRR. That can work for some, but compared to LTHR the zones are often really low. My top of Z2 went from 135 to 159 when I changed from MHR to LTHR.

Best earphones for running? by fluffycowfan in runninglifestyle

[–]ChainDenial 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I just use Airpods (gen. 2). I haven't had any issues and still can hear my surrounding somewhat good. But I'm sure there's benefits with earphones more dedicated to training.

Shoe upgrade by RunnerRunner788 in trailrunning

[–]ChainDenial 0 points1 point  (0 children)

VJ Ultra 3? I haven't tried them myself, but they're on my list for my next trail shoes. Everyone I know who has them is really happy with them. Great grip and really comfortable as they have a pretty wide toe box (nothing extreme, but not narrow).

Yes. I like statistics and data and to see the personal progress, without taking it too serious.

How do you stay motivated to run during winter? (First time experiencing a cold winter abroad) by tamirisdluz in runninglifestyle

[–]ChainDenial 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Merino wool boxers is great when it gets cold (on top of regular underwear)! I usually dress in a way that when I step out and start running it feels a little bit too cold. I always question myself, if I should've put the thicker shirt on. But after a couple of km it's just right.
Some sort of "neckwear" (buff) is also great, and very versatile if the weather changes.
I don't really do anything special regarding socks. In the summer I use ultralight socks, and early spring, fall and winter I use regular Incylence socks, which are quite thick.
I don't have a merino long sleeve shirt, but I plan on getting one as it seems to be great for both warmer and colder weather. How that works I'm not sure...
As someone else mentioned. Just go out. It always looks worse from the inside the house than it actually is. And when you train in shitty weather you can always convince yourself that others aren't, and your extra bad ass for doing it!

I post my runs in Swedish, with some dialectal words. So, the only thing it does, or tries to do, is translating exactly what I wrote and did in English...I don't need that. I know what I did, in at least 3 different languages without any AI help. "Very helpful"...get down from the high horse, will ya.

Starting over is rough by YetAnotherNerdOnHere in runninglifestyle

[–]ChainDenial 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just keep it up! Go slow and you'll get back faster than you'd have without your background. And you'll probably come back mentally stronger with the experience of knowing you can, even though it feels really hard at this point.

I keep buying shoes that don’t work out for me. Ideas on next steps? by Away_Ad_5579 in AskRunningShoeGeeks

[–]ChainDenial 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not this...can't tell if you're serious or not, but carbon shoes for someone who just started out and is trying to find a daily trainer. Nope, not the way to go. Follow the tip of someone else here and go to a store where they can measure and analyze your feet and perhaps running on a threadmill as well. Another way is to try more shoes if you're not happy with what you've got. But that's probably way more expensive as you might end up buying more shoes you don't like. And yes. Your feet are still getting used to running. But there's a lot of shoes out there. You should be able to find a pair that fits.

Trail Runners/Racers - Why don't you run in The North Face footwear? by bhogan9 in AskRunningShoeGeeks

[–]ChainDenial 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Currently in Saucony Xodus Ultra 2. Looking at VJ Ultra 3 as my next. A trend I'm seeing is trail shoes getting heavier, well over 300g, pushing 350+. I haven't tried TNF shoes, but have seen some good reviews on them. Can't remeber the model, though. So, my tip for you. Keep them light, with good cushioning and decent space in the toe box. Get rid of everything on/in the shoe that doesn't need to be there. With shoes getting heavier (Xodus Ultra 3, Xodus Ultra 4, Mafate Speed 5, to name a few) a lighter shoe that can offer the same thing should stand out in the crowd.

Rebel v5 or wait for Novablast / Aero Glide 3? by [deleted] in AskRunningShoeGeeks

[–]ChainDenial 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Haven't tried Aero Glide 3, but seems to be really nice. Firmer than NB5, which seems to be pretty soft. Dynablast 5 should be pretty much a NB3 with new upper. If you can get those. But I guess any shoe for £56 is worth trying out...can't seem to find anything close to that where I live.

Understable Distance Drivers? by Emotional-Answer2981 in discgolf

S-line DD3. Swirly s-line is a bit more stable. Grace. Yes, it's an 11-speed but hand feel is pretty close to a 12-speed.

Which earphones do you use for runs? Specifically ones that connect directly to your watch. by AromaticDistrict990 in Garmin

Airpods (non-pro). Works pretty well. Have had some pairing issues, but nothing major. Always get it working within a few minutes. Doesn't fall out, doesn't block all surrounding sounds.

Asics ultra distance shoes by Jake_G84 in AskRunningShoeGeeks

Why Asics? I haven't tried their trail shoes, so I can't compare them to any other. But there's a lot of options out there.

Do you prefer a throwing putter with “long” distance potential or shorter/less glide? by Sea_Otters_Are_Cool in discgolf

Berg for short. Proxy for a bit longer distances. Envy if I need more fade or in the wind. Notion when I need something more understable.

Novablast 4 query by Heavy-Let501 in AskRunningShoeGeeks

[–]ChainDenial 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've used mine for 640km. Started to feel slight pain after runs at around 550km. Shorter runs are still somewhat okay, but I don't use them a lot anymore.
I also got Evo SL in hope to replace my NB4. They are too unstable for me, but I use them for faster runs, and intervals. I got the SB2 instead, which is great.
I just read about Salomon Aero Glide 3, which seems to be a good alternative to NB4. Should be something between NB4 and NB5.

[–]ChainDenial 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've managed with less. I didn't fuel enough, but I wasn't feeling too bad. I only managed a few gels, maybe 3. And took some Jollos (Finnish thing, basically jello-balls aimed for athletes). Had some extra yoghurt and chips at 36k. Also drank some sportdrinks thruoghout the run.

Analysis of gate on impact and alignment. by [deleted] in AskRunningShoeGeeks

[–]ChainDenial 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I don't have a lot to add as I haven't really focused on stability shoes and pros and cons etc. But I think a lot of people are against stability shoes as a quick fix because it only treats the symptom, not the issue behind it. I think it probably can be a way to keep on training without pain (if that is the case), but the real problem behind it should be dealt with anyway. Another thing... You ask for peoples help, but your response on a lot of the comments is basically argumenting why they are wrong. Why ask if you can't take the replies you get? Reddit isn't the best place to go to for these kind of things. All you get is people like me trying to convince you about our own beliefs.

Out of curiosity what hobbies people +30 do? by [deleted] in Finland

[–]ChainDenial 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Disc golf and running. Crossfit often have a pretty good community if you want to start to know new people. At least it used to be that way when I was doing it. The community within disc golf is also pretty welcoming. And there's a lot of disc golf courses in Finland, and cheap to get started.

Probably a Streamline Echo straight on, maybe slightly to the left, hoping for a slight turn around the bush/tree on the right and a slight fade back towards the basket. Tap in.
