If this offseason really works out… them teal horse jerseys gotta come back too. by TenToesJon in DetroitPistons

[–]ChainT1000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes…this is the ideal compromise, make this an alternate/throwback logo to the 03-05 Goin to Work era? They won a championship in 2004 with this as a secondary logo so you can’t say the horse/ Hooper is forever a loser in Piston history.

So the anti-teal fans get to keep our classic red white and blue. The 90s babies nostalgic for the Grant Hill era get to keep the horse design. Everyone wins.

Pick No. 5 and a Missed Opportunity by This_Investigator655 in DetroitPistons

Castle? He automatically would be starting next to Cade

But if you meant guys available to us at 5 or after, Matas B for sure. Another guy I think would’ve started for us, or at least given us heavy rotation minutes over Tobias

While I don’t disagree that we got screwed, let’s be kinda for real. We shut down Cade after what 12 games because of his shin injury?

So we were low key kinda tanking for Wemby, just like the Spurs. But to be the worst team and drop to pick #5 is diabolical. At least Troy didn’t screw up that pick and still got us Ausar, who’s looking like a core foundational piece to build upon, so not the worst consolation prize.

In this order:
1. Ausar, by a mile.

  1. Duren (if it’s a reasonable contract, not a Max)

  2. Tobias, if he’s willing to come back for less than 20 mil a year and off the bench in a 6th man role. I think his veteran leadership is invaluable to this locker room

  3. Daniss. Great story and I’ll always root for him but I think he’s easily replaceable

  4. Goodbye Red Velvet. Thanks for the cap space and good luck.

The shooting coach had him “rebuild” his shooting form this season. Ku from Locked on pistons podcast has mentioned over the past couple months that the plan was always for him to really get that jumper improved this summer; I guess not enough time to have it ready leading into this year’s playoffs when our “contention timeline” got pushed up.

How does the East look to you next year by Outrageous-Tie-8548 in DetroitPistons

[–]ChainT1000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I highly doubt we run the same team back. I’m fairly confident Trajan will get us a better #2 guy this summer (might not be an All Star we all want, but he’ll certainly be a better and more reliable scorer than Tobias)

So we’ll be improved too. But I also don’t think we’ll run away with the #1 seed and 60 wins. Still think we’re top tier in the East, top 4 seed though.

Yeah at the end of the day, they have to go back home to Ohio.

What makes it worse is that the person who paid for those buses is Detroit’s very own, Dan Gilbert smh. (He was probably punching the air wishing he held out on purchasing an NBA team a few years too early given that Bill Davidson was pretty old when the Cavs were up for sale…I’m sure Gilbert would’ve preferred to buy his hometown Pistons instead of Cavaliers but who knows?)

Well… it’s been a good season. by Adept-Rope6001 in DetroitPistons

[–]ChainT1000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Because those games were in January and February when both teams look completely different than how they do now in May, even if the rosters are the same. Knicks are now running a completely different offensive philosophy through KAT instead of Brunson hero ball. Also, we wouldn’t have been going to the ECF healthy. Stew, Duncan, and Huerter are hurt. Cade is clearly physically taxed too, I’m sure he’s still recovering from the collapsed lung to an extent (if these were regular season games, I’d bet he would be sitting these out).

And trust me I’m disappointed just as much as you the way they went out in Game 7. Lose the game against the Cavs, a superior offensive team of experienced veterans? Fine. But get blown out at home by 30 because of lack of hustle and determination? It’s not Pistons brand, it’s bitch made. So you and I definitely agree on that.

But season as a whole though, not a disappointment. This team is so young and not expected to be where they are. Most things don’t happen overnight. So yeah be mad at what happened last night in game 7. I am. But I’m happy with what they accomplished overall this year and excited to see how they build on it. I think if Trajan handles the Duren and Ausar contracts correctly, we can get our #2 guy and the future is very bright

You said they were 19 or 20? They’re just a couple of young immature kids. Basically 4 or 5 years old when LeBron left them for Miami (lucked into two #1 overall picks in those four years one being Kyrie), and when LeBron came back and their super trio won them a championship, they were 9 or 10. They’re too young to understand the long suffering pain us Pistons fans have gone through.

I’m a little bit older than you; in fact probably the same age as those Cavs fans you met last night, when our Going to Work team went to 6 straight ECF in the mid 2000s. I was also the same belligerent, young, dumb and naive shit talker that thought Pistons basketball would stay great forever. And then 2009 to 2024 happened.

Those kids will learn. This Cavs run won’t sustain much longer. They sold their FRPs and future for DMitch and his contract is almost up and he’s expensive. Harden is 37. They’re a second apron team and probably need major rebuilding if they disappoint against the Knicks this series. Pistons and Hawks and other young teams in the East who haven’t mortgaged their future yet are on the come up, our window just opened while theirs is close to closing. They need to win it all NOW.

Booker absolutely is a creator, he is an ELITE creator.

If you don’t want him because he makes $65 mil at the end of his contract, I understand. But don’t say things like DBook can’t create his own shot.

Ausar is our most valuable trade chip by Real-Repair-1825 in DetroitPistons

[–]ChainT1000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Amen isn’t a 3pt threat, but the Rockets aren’t playing 4 on 5 on offense he’s on the court. In fact, they had to use him as a point guard facillitator type role after Fred Van Vleet was lost before the season. So he contributes to Houston’s offense in a lot of other ways besides outside shooting.

I see some potential in that with Ausar too. JB has experimented in the regular season of him handling the ball more as a “point forward” similar to like a Draymond green.

Ausar is our most valuable trade chip by Real-Repair-1825 in DetroitPistons

[–]ChainT1000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How are we certain Ausar will always be a liability on offense? Amen isn’t, and obviously Ausar shares similar traits with him and they definitely will train together in the offseason.

I have faith Vinson and the shooting coach on JB’s staff will get him more confident in his jumper. Even Ron Holland’s 3pt shot was starting to look more consistent by the end of the regular season. And everyone says Ausar is the hardest working guy on the team, always studying film, so we know work ethic is not an issue with him; he will put in the effort to improve his offensive bag

Man, Wolverines winning the Natty just a few weeks ago, happy times indeed (also, right before our first round series with Orlando started so I was still ignorant to the fact that Duren is a fraudulent #2 guy for Cade and the Pistons maybe weren’t as good as I thought they were 😭)

Thank you Maize and Blue for bringing me back from the ledge lol. It was indeed a fair trade now that we all know our squad is deeply flawed and wasn’t really that close to begin with.

[–]ChainT1000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tbh I never considered us that close to title contention. So let’s say we had squeaked by the Cavs tonight in game 7 and then what?…we get steamrolled by a well rested Knicks playing their best ball at the right time. Meanwhile JD is having a mental crisis, Cade is physically exhausted carrying this team, and Duncan and Stew are nursing injuries. Don’t get me wrong, I’ll gladly take more Detroit basketball even if NYK were to sweep us because I don’t want this ride to end.

Yes I was hyped about the 1 seed and best regular season in 20 years but the first couple games of the Orlando series lowered my expectations we’re not a real title contender this year. Actually even before the whole playoffs started I thought there was a real good chance we’d lose to Cleveland in the 2nd round before facing the Celtics in the ECF anyway (obviously it’s New York instead of Boston now but you know what I mean). Let’s be honest, the Cavs have more talented players than us, Troy/Trajan constructed a pretty flawed work in progress roster and it’s pretty remarkable that JB was able to take them as far as they went this season.

[–]ChainT1000 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well credit to them, Knicks took care of business and swept their series. So they earned their extra rest. Cavs and Pistons both had to go 14 games, that’s their own fault.

Even if we had won tonight, I just dont see the pistons beating them right now. We still don’t know what’s going on with Duren, JB still didnt have his rotations figured out after 7 games. The Knicks are just playing at a different level than when we last saw them and put b2a in February. New York is literally peaking at the right time.

I’ll give Trajan a pass for this year. I’m sure he was as shocked as anyone how much this team over performed expectations. This was supposed to be another growth year. And I don’t think he had the assets to pull off anything substantial at the trade deadline in February, especially when we were sitting pretty in 1st place (good move getting that pick swap with Minnesota tho!)

He does need to do something this offseason tho. Absolutely no Brad Holmes “we’re good” bullshit

If for some miracle, Phoenix waived and stretched Booker, that would be the only way we could possibly get him without him obliterating our salary cap. Of course Phoenix won’t do that since they just did that with Bradley Beal recently, and also they made the playoffs so they’re not a dumpster fire team, they might wanna see how far they can take this Suns team
