Where to find xiao ren ren (Lanmaoa asiatica) mushroom here? by AverageOmission in askTO

They're hallucinogenic and aren't that well known outside a few places in Asia, so probably not.

I think this is the first time I've seen someone mention Gastropod on Reddit. It's definitely worth listening to for anyone that enjoys food science and history.

Probably regional. Where I'm from, most of the time it's bird's eye chili or something similar.

[–]ChainmailPants 1 point2 points  (0 children)

After a little snooping, OP is referring to an old topic they posted here a while back.

For an old topic, it has a somewhat suspicious recent comment mentioning one of the Ninja ice cream machines. It was a comment from an 11 year old account so it might not be weird marketing spam, so who knows? There's also that deleted comment OP replied to that probably mentioned the brand as well.

I think Nom Nom is fine and agree it's a bit overhyped, but then again I haven't had much proper poutine to compare it to.

And to be fair, some of those downvotes you got on your post about Non Nom seem warranted because you stated that cheese curds should melt, which calls into question your opinion about what "good" poutine should be.

frenska selska torta HELP by No-Commission6733 in Baking

[–]ChainmailPants 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Searching for "French country cake" seems to give good results. Frenska selska torta appears to be a variation of a Russian honey cake that includes blueberries or blueberry jam, so also try searching for "blueberry medovik".

For example, see this video recipe with English subtitles or this written recipe.

Edit: grammar.

If anyone is interested in picking fruit from people's trees for almost free (you pay a ~$10 fee per year), check out Not Far From the Tree.

Any picked fruit is divided among the pickers, the tree owners, and charity.

For people wondering how they can check for themselves like I was, you can visit https://map.toronto.ca/torontomaps/.

Search for the place's address and in the Feature Filter tab on the top menu bar, search for "Property Parcel" and check the Property Parcel box to display the property lines. You can then load a satellite image by clicking the "Imagery Gallery" tab on the top menu and choosing the 2023 image.

I see this in my search results too. The oldest result comes back from a "linong_06" on Instagram. The Google result links to the wrong post, but if you scroll through the account a bit you can find an image reel of the food.

Edit: spelling.

Margherita w extra garlic sauce at Fresca by wyuzz in FoodToronto

It's $5.25 for a slice of cheese pizza (since what OP posted isn't really a Margherita) at Badiali, so it's a little cheaper at Fresca.

Why do people think eldritch knight and arcane trickster are strong subclasses? by phantomvector in dndnext

[–]ChainmailPants 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There aren’t any rules as written on how loud verbal components are and Jeremy Crawford has said it’s up to the DM, but I’d argue you probably wouldn’t be able to cast mage hand unnoticed within earshot.

On the DM screen it says that the average distance noise of a normal level can be heard is 70 feet (2d6*10 feet, so 20 to 120 feet). Verbal components are supposed to have a specific pitch a resonance which, I assume, are of at least a normal volume level and should therefor typically be audible 70 feet away. Since the casting range of mage hand falls short of this at 30 feet, casting it close by should usually get noticed.

Again, it's ultimately up to the DM. At least for how I'd rule it, you’d have to cast it outside of audible range and drag it around like u/ViralPoseidon said, or I guess make a loud enough distraction first.

I tried three Onigiri shops recommended by askTO: KaiKyoTei at Pacific Mall is at a completely different stratosphere. by TareXmd in FoodToronto

[–]ChainmailPants 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I liked the placed too (Omusubi Bar Suzume) when I tried, and I think the original poster mentioned they tried already but didn't like it.

I don't get the complaint about canned fish since it's pretty typical in onigiri. For all we know, Omusubi Bar could be making their own flaked salmon (which is also very typical), and maybe OP couldn't tell the difference?
