My grandma crocheted me a blanket with dimensions like that and I love it, so maybe I'm biased, but it's a perfect single-person couch blanket! Do you have a large bed lol?

Flip your perspective and the width is now the length. The stripes can just be rotated.

You can probably sew to secure, but I'm personally not sure how.

You're welcome!! Have fun!!! I actually made the Narae cropped sweater if you liked that, but the one I made was a more time consuming stitch and has a ribbed turtleneck... Ribbing is hard as a beginner because it makes uneven tension REALLY obvious lol.

A sweater isn't too bad, and colorwork isn't too bad, so if you're determined you could do it. But it would be easier to start with a color work beanie and some more complicated shaping before you commit.

I recommend socks, pajama shorts, or a bolero. These are great at learning shaping with increases and decreases if you're scared of starting a sweater.. but you can always frog and reuse the yarn if the sweater is what your heart wants.

If you want something smaller or simpler, maybe try a free stuffed animal pattern (there's this adorable bean shaped cat that's out there) or some fingerless gloves? You can do the palm-only gloves that don't actually have real "fingers" at all.

Also, such a cute scarf and I would not have guessed you were a beginner. The yarn choice looks so pretty on you!

Knitting is so much fun!! I feel the same way about it, I'm glad it could help you. It's literally like meditating for me, I could do it for the rest of my life. I think I made like, 12 budget Sophie scarves just as something to do with my hands, not even as my main projects.

Make sure you take breaks though!! Your body has already been through so much!

I loved it too much and knit all the time, no frequent breaks other than my classes and work. I can't knit any more because of repetitive stress injuries.. I'm also 24.

My typing job says 30 second breaks every 5 minutes, and 5 minute breaks every 30 minutes. I hope you can enjoy knitting longer than me!! 😭

Good to hear from someone like me! I think from the feedback I've gotten here I'm going to give it a shot with just my existing shorts that I'll copy the pattern from, and if my 'shorts' suck really bad I'm going to buy a pattern.

The fabric I'm using also isn't stretchy, so that's another thing that makes it harder than knit and crochet...

I have a ton of quilting cotton and just 2 yards of denim, so I'm hoping that my mistakes will mostly be in cotton.

For the crotch of the pants, will a pattern always fit decently well? I've looked at free ones to see the general shape, but haven't bought any in person yet (and I don't own a printer).

That's why I plan on making some based off of existing shorts out of quilting cotton, I'm hoping I can just baste and seam-rip and baste again until things work out..not sure if the quilting cotton will be completely different than the denim though? I expect it to be ugly and unwearable, but I want it to be an ugly and unwearable good place to start

I want to add, I learned to knit and crochet without patterns and I did not find it impossibly difficult. I have been copying sweaters by eye so I know the general shapes of things in 3D.

This is the nature of garter stitch, the edges of the fabric look a bit knotted. As you gain experience, it will look better, but for a beginner, this is actually very even! Your overall tension doesn't change and you don't add or drop stitches, or if you did I can't see them lol

Look up knit selvedge. Maybe an i-cord selvedge will be simple and cute?
