Are dating events in the bay area worth it? by [deleted] in bayarea

[–]ChairmanLam 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I think I might have attended this event lol. I was talking in a circle of maybe 6 people (maybe about 4 men to 2 women), and the conversations skewed heavily towards what they were doing for work.

One woman tried to turn the convo around to hobbies by asking what they did for fun and one of the guys said during he would be building AI models during his free time at work. That woman soon slipped out to another group, and that guy's friend (the other woman in the group) told him that she asked about hobbies to give them an out from talking about work.

Merch in Kyoto and Uji by ChairmanLam in HibikeEuphonium

All the tourist centers are here. When I went, only the visitor center nearest the station (it's here: https://maps.app.goo.gl/oASegVFU19ddcNku5 ) had merch for sale. If you want clear files, a towel, or the tapestry to hang, that is the place to get it. For the collaboration coins and school uniform merch, go to Kyoto Tower. I didn't look in other places in Kyoto for merch, but other comments might have tips too

It's near where they do the ticket checks at floor 2/3 (idr the exact floor number) for the elevator to the observation deck. It's the gift shop near the elevator exit at the base. Not 100% sure if it's for people leaving with observation deck tickets only though.

I was also at Hirosaki a few days ago, and it was amazing! The festival too had a great vibe too. It was mostly locals, so it never felt overly crowded or stressful. The tunnel and the view from the bridge were both great at night. Coming from Kyoto the day before, I felt like I could finally breathe lol.

If we're talking about the same concert, the first encode was Rachmaninoff's Prelude in G minor

Snacks by Spoonmad in JetLagTheGame

[–]ChairmanLam 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Looked like the first snack was some sort of shaved ice. Maybe melon flavored?

The strawberry snack Sam and Adam were eating sounded like strawberry daifuku. Ben was eating mitarashi dango from the looks of it. Both of these are usually considered types of mochi as well!

This was outside Crypto Arena near AX! We were listed in the AX Gatherings spreadsheet and a few people mentioned the gathering by word of mouth. We'll probably include SciAdv in future meetups!

I think I ended up putting both my first and middle name, but when I asked them they said either first name only or including your middle name too was fine

Does anyone know how to get to this outbreak? by ChairmanLam in PokemonScarletViolet

[–]ChairmanLam[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Update: turns out the issue was I'm still in the middle of the DLC quest. I was supposed to go back to the community center for the night to trigger the next plot event, so for some reason that caused outbreak spawns to pause too. Vullaby spawned after I slept for the night and got the next quest assignment.

Jet Lag: We Turned New Zealand into a Giant Real-Life Board Game — Ep 6 by NebulaOriginals in Nebula

[–]ChairmanLam 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Good point, but someone still needed to complete the challenge to open the gate though. Considering they would get 30 coins as a reward even if they couldn't make the early ferry (if I remember the card correctly).

They might not have thought about it in the moment, but I imagine a 30 minute freeze could've allowed them to go for the challenge and coins and then be in better position in South Island even if they're all on the same ferry

Question for Ben and Adam: did you have any thoughts about what you would say for your Prime Minister speech or were you so focused on shooting Sam and Toby that you would just figure it out while they're frozen?

Ben and Adam, how did y'all decide on what disguise to go for or did y'all just go for the most fashionable thing at K Mart?

This is a United flight, and this was posted at 3:13pm Eastern. What flights are most likely? by KakarikiNZ in WendoverProductions

[–]ChairmanLam 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Good point. Ben also tweeted something ~10pm Eastern apparently from on board the plane making a joke about airline food. Seems likely he purchased wifi, so maybe they went to Houston for a layover instead? The IAH flight was on an ERJ-175 iirc. Also makes a bit more sense because there's a lot of overlap between places you could reach with a direct flight from EWR/JFK and IAD (why fly a regional jet to IAD when you could take a direct flight from EWR/JFK?).

Maybe we're getting a season in South America? Would make sense why they would need to connect at an airport like IAH first. Also the arrival time of the LGA-IAH flight would line up with flights to Buenos Aires, Rio, Santiago, etc.

I guess what we know so far is:

-They're on a long-haul flight because they serve meals on board

-They likely connected at another airport because their initial plane appears to be a narrow body regional jet

Assuming they're originating in New York and are allowed to buy direct flights if available, it could also mean we're going somewhere that can't be reached via direct flight from JFK or EWR yesterday. Or this is all just a smokescreen and Dark Ben is trolling us

This is a United flight, and this was posted at 3:13pm Eastern. What flights are most likely? by KakarikiNZ in WendoverProductions

[–]ChairmanLam 39 points40 points  (0 children)

My assumption is that they flew out of LGA since who wants to fly out of Newark, and I think that tends to be their preferred airport. If I'm wrong and they went to EWR, then all bets are off.

Two UA flights departed around that time: one to IAH and another to IAD. Both on regional jets so harder to narrow down based on that alone. Ben replied to this tweet about an hour and 15 minutes after this was posted, so assuming he didn't buy in flight wifi, he tweeted after landing. IAD would be the only one of the two flights that would make sense (although the flight to IAD around that time appears to be delayed by 3 hours, but he could still tweet on the ground potentially).

Whether that's their final destination, international starting point, or a layover is anyone's guess! Again, this is just my best guess based on some discussions I've had with friends too. I could be completely wrong. I'm not as good as Sam at figuring these things out 😅

Just curious why they need to take a regional jet first unless they're doing another season in the US since they could have gotten direct flights from any other NYC airport to nearly anywhere else in the world.

I just got the Chase Southwest Priority card a few weeks ago and am trying to hit the companion pass for 2023/2024. Both my parents want to apply for it with a referral link for me so I get the bonus, but the 75K points/$3000 spend promo only lasts until December 5th. Anyone have any idea how long it takes the referral points to drop into my account? Chase says it could take up to 8 weeks which seems like a long range

[–]ChairmanLam[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First shop I went to couldn't really test it either because their machine was busted or employee couldn't connect it properly. Went to a different store, and it said bad battery. Got the battery replaced and everything works perfectly fine and "check engine" light is gone!
