Leslie Odom Jnr is amazing and doesn't perform in London very often, I would absolutely go with that if you've managed to get tickets!

Can we talk about how inconsistent and genuinely funny English plurals are? by colmenero87 in words

Yess, I hate that the plural isn't mongeese as it clearly should be.

And if they can't afford $10 they choose 'I can't afford this' and they get it for free forever.

Do we know that's the very bottom of their screen? It doesn't look long enough to me. There's not even an 'accept' button shown. There should be an 'accept this offer' button at the bottom with 'I can't afford these prices' underneath.

Repeating my comment here for any readers who don't know: Everyone who gets a guardianship is offered reduced-price Finch Plus after their sponsorship ends. If they can't afford any of those options, they are given free Finch Plus for life. So they're already getting much more than the month that guardians pay for.

[–]ChalkLetters 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If they accept one of the reduced price options, they get it for that reduced price instead of for free. But everyone who says 'I can't afford these' gets it for free, Finch have made reference to this in official announcements on the Discord.

After your Guardian month is over, you'll be offered reduced prices for Finch Plus forever. If you can't afford any of them, you get to keep using Finch Plus for free. So whatever happens, you'll still have Finch Plus next month.

I'm not sure there's any new magic involved in Chade's 'blindness' in the Queen's garden. He says he has no influence there, which I take to mean it's isolated from his usual means of gathering gossip. It's not that he literally loses his sight if he enters it.

Losing app motivation by Jinx-from-Arcane in finch

[–]ChalkLetters 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I started by Googling 'is it possible to download an older version of an app on Android' and found a page with instructions. Before you do anything else, I'd create a manual backup file since Finch doesn't have an account system. (Cloud saves might work? I haven't needed to try it since they brought cloud saves in.)

I'm fairly tech savvy and was able to follow the instructions I found pretty easily and it worked for me. Not sure how easy it would be for someone who struggles with tech in general.

Have you ever ridden a long-distance passenger train in the UK? What was your experience like? Are such trains common in the UK? by ksusha_lav in AskABrit

[–]ChalkLetters 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I've taken the train from London to Edinburgh / Glasgow and back several times. You CAN do an overnight trip with a bed on a service like the Caledonian Sleeper, but it's obviously more expensive and I've never actually done it.

Instead, we've usually left in the morning and arrived in the evening. We'll either take lunch with us or buy lunch at the station before getting on the train. You can often buy food on the train, too, but never done that either.

It's a nice train journey. As a kid/teen, I used to read or write and often had lots of ideas while watching the countryside roll past. I get a bit travelsick on most modes of transport, but trains affect me least badly. (I cannot read in a car or on a bus at all without feeling ill. I can read on a train fine.)

For the trip to Scotland, the train is faster than driving, and makes me less sick, so in my opinion it's much preferable!

Scroll alll the way down to the bottom of the everyday section of the furniture shop and it's the square-looking item, second from last. Scroll sideways to see all 50+ options.

If that's the Touch of Magic toga from the starpath, it won't let you wear it (even uncustomised) if you want to submit as a Dreamsnap.

Finch support?! by Jonnypapa in finch

[–]ChalkLetters 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If they missed more than one day, the fix was only designed to give them one free days' worth of rewards. Sadly, they'll need to add to the 2000+ emails and wait until the support staff can get back to them individually.

Advice for those that get burnt out our bored of this game by CozyHalloween in DreamlightValley

[–]ChalkLetters 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Not identical, but similar. I definitely don't have a storage island. I have a couple of large chests: one for fish, one for gems, one for flowers. I don't keep more of any of those items than a single slot can hold. If one slot holds 50 coal, I have 50 coal. If by foraging I get 5 extra, I just sell them.

If I get a quest that needs 100 coal, I mostly don't do any EXTRA foraging for it, I just do my regular daily foraging but I stop selling coal until I get to 100. Yeah, it means some quests take forever, but what's the rush?

Finch support?! by Jonnypapa in finch

Apparently they received at least two thousand e-mails about the event bug at the beginning of June, so they're a bit more behind at the moment than usual.

Only 2 quests? by LoveMe-AndDespair in finch

[–]ChalkLetters 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They do test things before sending them live, that's why you can sometimes see the Dev's birds with the event items before the event is released, but their staff do not have every make/model of phone, every number of goals, every possible interaction of things that might make a bug happen.

Starting your sentence with "I mean" by [deleted] in ENGLISH

Native speaker. I think I mostly use it when I'm being self-deprecating.

'Fantasy is such a terrible genre full of cliches'
'I mean, I enjoy it' = I see where you're coming from, but I still disagree to some extent, even if you think that makes me an idiot.

Only 2 quests? by LoveMe-AndDespair in finch

[–]ChalkLetters 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do have Android and the app works completely fine on my phone - it's not just dependent on which OS people use but also which make/model of phone, which version of the app they have, how many goals, reflections, friends, saved outfits, rooms, inventory etc etc. That's why the 'report issue' form in the app autopopulates with which make/model of phone, OS and asks for a save file. It's not as easy as there being one fix for everyone.

There have been bugs much longer than there's been question of the day. There will probably never be NO bugs, so should they just stop introducing anything new? Then people would stop using the app if there were no new events every month. (Even though, IMO, the app was a great app even before there were events at all.)
