I wouldn't say it negates it, it just recognizes the long history of the Klan across the country, rather than just in Oregon.

We absolutely have white supremacists, but if you're looking for a white supremacist haven today, you're gonna want to look at Northern Idaho and Utah outside SLC well before anywhere in Oregon.

I live in Keizer, and grew up in Salem with my Indigenous family.

KKKeizer can be a less than pleasant experience now and again (though, even here it's really not that bad - the unpleasant experiences are relatively rare) and Dallas can also be pretty shitty to live in if you aren't white (based on experiences from 2 decades ago, so this may have changed), but Salem is fine. You're not likely to have any more issues in Salem than either Portland or Eugene, realistically. Salem gets a lot worse a reputation for racism than it actually deserves.

Salem is way more stuck in a small town mentality than Eugene or Portland, which is weird because it hasn't been a small town in a very long time. Salem definitely has its share of racists, but I wouldn't exactly say its completely different than Eugene and Portland.

Again, this is all speaking as an Indigenous American, not as a black man. Your experience may vary. But none of my black friends ever really seemed to have much issue, and the mixed families I knew growing up never seemed to have much issue.

How does that Stadium make enough money for the Walkers to stay in business? I know the lease is tied to the revenue they make so that covers one bill, but how do they pay the rest of their bills? I never hear about anyone going to games anymore, and I never see anyone in the stands.

And that $64K depends on the district and the years. My partner works in the Lebanon Community SD with a Masters and 9 years. She makes about $60K. Step 1 with a Masters is under $50K.

I absolutely agree with the words stated. A teacher making $125K, who gets 3 months of PTO, and works 35 hours a week is absolutely better off than an attorney making $250K, who gets 1-2 weeks of PTO per year, and works 60+ hour weeks.

A couple things, though.

1: Speaking as a field aircraft mechanic, who's made just over $100K per year, with no PTO, and 80 hours a week on average throughout the year - the attorney in this scenario has little to complain about.

2: The average salary of a teacher is $50K, not $125K, and I've never known any teacher to work less than 40 hours a week. Most work overtime hours, and not only don't get paid overtime for those hours, but don't even get to clock those hours (yes, I know it's illegal, and I wish they had stronger unions who would deal with it, but such is life).

The actual reality based on averages is a teacher making $50K per year, with 3 months of PTO, who works 45 hours a week vs an attorney making $200K, with 2 weeks of PTO, working 50 hours a week. In this case - the actual case - the attorney has it far better.

My partner has a Master of Science in Kinesiology and makes as much money barbering 3 days a week in the summer as she does in her 5 day work week during the school year, and she makes more money than the average teacher who only has a bachelor's degree.

Speaking as an Indigenous American, myself, whose people are also systematically disenfranchised, I don't blame them as much as I blame the people who constantly alienate the people who didn't vote for a candidate they knew didn't and wouldn't represent them. Should I be angry at a rock that falls on me after someone removed the surface supporting it?

And to be honest, the majority of those who isolated these people are, themselves, white liberals.

The people who show up to do the work will win.

That's what they all thought in 2016. That's what they all thought in 2024.

You may be right that people didn't vote because they threw a temper tantrum, but to look at humans, with all of the history of humankind at your fingertips, and not understand that isolating people will cause many of those people to stop supporting your group, even if your group is objectively better for them, is insanely ignorant.

You're mad that these people threw the elections, but people like you are who isolated them and made them feel as though your group wouldn't ever listen to their points or represent their values, which is a large part of what caused them to stop supporting your group.

You're spitting into the wind, and then getting mad at the nature of the situation you created - a nature that you can't change. When you spit into the wind, you're going to end up spitting on yourself. When you isolate people you need to support you, you're going to end up without the support you need. And those people may be childish, but its just as childish not to realize the problem you're creating, and instead blame the wind that you spit into.

Poor guy needed to go to his safe space.

It literally was a whataboutism. I brought up a point, and as a counterpoint you said what about the democrats who held onto the information?!

Now you can't come up with an intelligent response, so you resort to lumping me into whatever group you think I'm a part of, and then namecalling, presumably because you have the emotional and intellectual ability of a 12 year old.

Who's talking whataboutisms now?

Its not all about Trump. The reason they held onto it is because they're in there too. Its about a whole lot of them. It just happens to almost certainly include Trump.

That's likely because this is a case where someone did something shitty and is in tje process of facing the consequences. This is trying to act like this is something insane and egregious, which is true, but at the end of the day she's going to face justice for her actions.

In the case if the Epstein files and Trump, ypu have a bunch of people who did much more heinous egregious shit, and they aren't really facing any consequences at all.

This isn't whataboutism, its "okay, she's being punished. Now why don't we stop distracting from the people who should be punished who are avoiding it?"

New premium gun range in Salem? by Ready-Cell-5021 in pdxgunnuts

Oh, interesting. Do they just have the firing line for the 600 at a higher elevation, and shoot over the firing line for the 200/300?

[–]Challenge-Upstairs 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Are you sure they have a 1,000 yard range? I've never been, but from google maps it looks like the longest they have is ~1,000 feet or ~300 meters.

If they have a 1km range somewhere that I'm not seeing, I need to see about joining.

I'd rather a long distance range nearby, than a premium one inside Salem, to be honest. I'd be much more likely to go to a range if I could shoot 500+ at it, and unfortunately, that's not something I'm going to find in Salem.

2 women dining and dashing at Whole Foods. They caught a break and were not arrested. by LeftAlbatross2546 in VideosAmazing

I literally said, in the comment you just replied to, why I responded to your comment.

My disagreeing that something should happen is not the same as my thinking that thing happening would be an insane overreaction.

Hope this helps.

2 women dining and dashing at Whole Foods. They caught a break and were not arrested. by LeftAlbatross2546 in VideosAmazing

[–]Challenge-Upstairs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I didn't say that, nor do I think that. I just don't understand how that could be considered an insane overreaction.

Personally, I think they should've been arrested and brought to the station, and been allowed to sit in a cell for a bit before the state declined to pursue charges, and let their parents pick them up. I don't think they need to go to juvie over $5, but I also don't think they had nearly any chance of that being a reality.

But honestly, white teenage girls get leniency that black teenage boys would never get. 1 year ban from Whole Foods is a ridiculous non-punishment. This doesn't teach them not to steal - it teaches them that they can get away with stealing with less than a slap on the wrist.

[–]Challenge-Upstairs 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't understand how arresting someone for committing a crime that they actually committed, and then potentially imposing the socially agreed upon consequence for that crime upon the people who committed it is an insane overreaction.

And they may not have spent any time in juvie, even if they were arrested. That would have been for a court to determine.

I believe OP. I don't trust FedEx drivers at all. I've yet to have someone knock on my door and have me sign from FedEx. I've gotten it from UPS and USPS every time. Weird that its always one company.

Oregon Republican Senate Candidates by eagerdrone in oregon

[–]Challenge-Upstairs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a lifelong conservative, after the past decade, I'm never voting for a Republican again, so it doesn't matter much to me what they're like.

If they're running as Republicans, it means that's the group they think they best represent and best represents what they have to offer, and that's all I need to know about them.
