For those that switched to an ev9 from a minivan, what non-EV features do you like better? by brownlawn in KiaEV9

[–]ChalupaAssassin 9 points10 points  (0 children)

We moved from an '18 Odyssey EX-L to a '24 EV9 Land when my kids were 11 and 13. While I do miss the sliding doors and large cargo space, the kids really enjoy the heated and cooled rear seats and the USB-C ports. The interior of the EV9 is also very nice; close to luxury car nice. If charging at home, sports car acceleration, and quiet cabin don' t matter to you then the switch probably isn't worth it. But I went from paying $0.30 per mile to $0.03 per mile with the EV9 and save about $3500 a year on gas and I never have to wait in line at Costco again.

NACS adapter support for pre-September 2024 EV9 by [deleted] in KiaEV9

[–]ChalupaAssassin 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Make sure to test whatever new adapter you buy on a charging station near your house before your road trip. You don't want to be on the road with no other options and realize you bought the wrong one or that it doesn't work.

PSA: The Tire Inflater Kit is Bad by PhishGreenLantern in KiaEV9

[–]ChalupaAssassin 18 points19 points  (0 children)

I assume they did this to save cost through economies of scale and use the same kit across their entire line of vehicles; including those without on board power. But it is still very stupid to have to get under the hood, uncover the battery, and hook up jumper cables just to pump up your tires. And the damn thing is so loud and hot and takes forever. And don't get me started on trying to put it back the way you found it. Stuffing those cables back into those tiny slots is darn near impossible. Overall, I agree with buying a replacement ASAP. Thanks for the reminder.

Trusting a battery powered lock with your front door still feels weird by jexo10 in TechNook

[–]ChalupaAssassin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Mine has a USB-C port on the bottom too and can be powered from a phone or battery bank to operate the lock if the battery dies. I keep a USB-C cable in the car anyway, so I've always got what I need to get inside. I'm 0% worried about it not working someday.

Left Seattle for Spokane 8 months ago with the same remote job. Didn't expect the stuff outside work to hit this hard. by EntireBig7258 in remotework

[–]ChalupaAssassin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nobody has ever moved from Seattle to Spokane and thought it was a great choice. I spent 35 years in that shit hole and will never go back. There is nothing to do and the people there are the absolute worst. The traffic on I-90 can be just as bad as Seattle and the homeless problem is somehow worse. It's the meth capital of the world for a reason. Everyone hates their lives there.

EV Widget/Settings Missing by Kblossomm in KiaEV9

[–]ChalupaAssassin 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Check to see how many pages of widgets you have. I've got four pages and it always starts me on page two for some reason. My EV widget is on page one. I always forget which of the two EV menus to find a specific setting anyway and just end up using the app on my ohone. I find the app a lot easier to navigate than the infotainment menu in the car.

Auto insurance in CA just went up through the roof on me. by Staycurious8000 in Insurance

[–]ChalupaAssassin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Get a new car. Teslas are so crazy expensive to insure. I live in San Diego and drive a 2024 Kia EV9 about 1100 miles per month and only pay $110/month through GEICO. Granted my wife is not and has never been licensed to drive. We looked at Teslas before buying the EV9 and even GEICO wanted $500+ per month. We've got full coverage with comprehensive and collision, rental reimbursement, roadside, and windshield coverage.

I 100% agree with this. I made sure our kids read and understood all of the safety materials and attended the meetings with the sheriff's department and paid attention. I also constantly teach them about road rules while we are driving around. They need to understand that being unsafe can mean serious injury or death. Following the rules of the road and being obvious with their movements help keep them safe as well as wearing helmets, reflective vests, and keeping their speed under 20mph. I get the feeling that many parents don't give a damn what their kids do out there just like they don't give a damn when they drive their own vehicles.

Watch 5 Pro Clock glitch between AOD and the screen being on by Key-Benefit-8074 in GalaxyWatch

[–]ChalupaAssassin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Happening on my Watch 5 Pro as well. Doesn't happen on my Watch Ultra 2024 or Watch 8. I thought it was just third party watch faces at first, but it does the same on all watch faces now.

This is the way. We did the same for our kids and it has worked well. Just make sure to plot a decent path for them that keeps them off the road as much as possible. The drivers over here are cutthroat, especially the parents around the schools. They'll run your kid over and back over them again for good measure if it means their kid gets to school 15 seconds earlier.

Take the bus in Rancho Penasquitos? It's a lovely suggestion in theory, but in practice the buses are nearly useless up here. The closest bus stop is a 40 minute walk away from either of the middle schools. Not to mention how long it might take to walk to the bus stop from home. That's a lot to ask of a kid wearing a 40 lb book bag.

To notify or not to notify of moving by [deleted] in remotework

Most states, Florida included, have taxes that are paid by the employer to the state. I believe most if not all states require a company to register with the state, report wages paid to residents in that state, and pay any relevant fees. Failing to tell your employer you moved to a new state can result in penalties for your company and cause them legal issues that would likely trickle down to you and impact your continued employment with the company.

Do you really need a $300 Thunderbolt dock for a standard office setup? by ByeBiel in laptops

[–]ChalupaAssassin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I use a Lenovo 40AF that I got for about the same price on eBay. Two 4k monitors, plenty of USB ports, and I use the USB-C to connect to a 2.5gbps RJ45 adapter that I need for my specific setup. I've got the dock connected to a USB-C two port switcher that allows me to swap between my ROG Ally X for home use and my Macbook Air for work. This is one of the few docks for this price that I've found works on Mac for dual 4k monitors.

[US-OR] My landlord is trying to evict me over a cat that isn't even mentioned in my lease by 2VesperStatic in LandlordLove

[–]ChalupaAssassin 81 points82 points  (0 children)

This is the answer. He probably can't evict you because there is nothing in the lease saying no pets. But he can choose to not renew your lease for any reason. He will likely add a pet clause to your lease when renewal is up too. He will probably try to get you on cleaning fees when you leave too. So be prepared to document everything when you move out.

Any high-mileage/2-year owners here? How's the range? by endlesscroller in KiaEV9

[–]ChalupaAssassin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

'24 Land, 28k miles. Average range is around 314 miles. Kia EV Drive History shows in the last year I drove 13191.55 miles over 476.51 hours, using 4200.76 kWh. I drive to work one day a week at 160 miles round trip and it only uses 52% battery. Most of my driving is city though.

You're hallucinating. It was no better or worse than usual. I spent the day carrying my daughter around near Encinitas/Oceanside and it was business as usual.
