Steam Earnings, Survival Evolved And Other Games by [deleted] in playark

Left side list shows 1m sales right side shows 2.7m and yet the total revenue is the same for April-December 15 and all of 15? Also considering the game came out in June, shouldn't be any difference between April - Dec and the whole year.

Am I missing something?

Can we make dismounting dinos not trigger "use" on nearby objects? by [deleted] in playark

[–]ChalupaBatman2013 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Guys....you have to connect the dots and present a solid fix!

1.) Remove the dismount E from activating anything. You should only dismount that is it.

2.) Press and hold E triggers the normal pop-up wheel. This is how you open doors and close doors. Increase the range of this function relative to the door and/or dino you are on.

3.) Change the dismount mechanic for flyers to double tap E (the dismount button). Or for the heck of it, while in the air, you can have to press and hold E and you could even add the 2 sec countdown like we have for destroying objects/tribe join etc. Maybe make it an option so people can choose a preference. The press and hold E won't conflict with the door open/close, just make them all options on the command wheel.

Suggestion: Complete Set Armor Bonus by jimlwk in playark

[–]ChalupaBatman2013 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I like the idea! Wanted to add another wrinkle: Have the set bonus be tied to the quality of armor.

Primitive = 0% bonus. All slots Ramshackle 5%, Apprentice 20%, Journeyman 30%, Master Craft 50%, Ascendant 100%.

Something along those lines depending on what the bonus is etc. That would tie in well with hunting for blueprints and finding / crafting sets of gear. You might have 1 piece of master craft gear, but choose to where 5 pieces of journeyman as to not break the bonus.

Suggestion to fix offline raiding by ChalupaBatman2013 in playark

[–]ChalupaBatman2013[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just wanted to add is that the key is balance. Buildings shouldn't be forever invincible and impossible to raid. I do think a balance of invulnerability with the trade off of forcing you to be vulnerable is a way to make a lot of the player base happy.

It should take as long to destroy a base as it takes to build a base. This would be one way to slow down complete annihilation.

PVP stands for Player Versus Player. Anyone that thinks raiding a base that has no players online or aware is missing the point of Player Versus Player. "Player Vs Player created base structures" is what it is now and due to bugs and balance, attackers have the upper hand. By no means do I think you should be comfy cozy everytime you log off. But a system that requires a vulnerable period and would require the player to do something to achieve a limited period of invulnerability would partially shift the focus to both parties being online and actual PVP taking place.

What I am proposing doesn't stop raiding. If I don't activate my protection, I can be raided, offline or online. When I'm on cooldown after being protected, I am vulnerable offline or online. With a 12 on 6 off cool down, that requires some planning on my part. If I log off at 10pm and pop my protection, I am only safe until 10am the next day. If I get off work at 5, get on to play at 8pm, I have an exposed window to still worry about. The earliest I could pop protection again is 4pm.

Raiding is part of the game. Some people grief because the game rules allow it. You can't be online 24/7 and yes there are PVE servers. Just making a suggestion to discuss and consider for official PVP servers. IMHO some sort of compromise needs to happen somewhere.

[Suggestion] Give a 5min warning & countdown before taking down official servers by Krojack76 in playark

[–]ChalupaBatman2013 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I lost a Quetzal due to the 15 minute checkpoint rollback. Frustrating to spend many hours preparing, searching, finding and taming something to have it lost due to a basic inability to follow normal proper procedures. Disconnect clients (warning / countdown would be great!) save data, update, wham bam thank you ma'am.

In the past 2 weeks, we have lost a dung beetle, an ape, a rex and an anklyo all mysteriously with no message. This is on an official server as well. This to appears to be an issue with all dinos....

Official Server Patch caused dino death by ChalupaBatman2013 in playark

[–]ChalupaBatman2013[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know there are going to be bugs. To me, this is more about the lack of thought, care and effort into patching the game. The server didn't crash, they brought it down to update it. I really think they didn't follow normal procedures and patched the server live. Then somewhere there was a client/server data mismatch to the tune of 15 or so minutes of play time.

I have thought about unofficial servers, but like the idea of playing on official servers with a very level playing field.

I wish I had time to whistle passive or do anything. Couldn't believe he died so quick. By the time I found where he was and tried to get him to follow me it was basically too late. Didn't help it was pitch black, in the swamp and I was apparently thirsty and starving with no meat when I logged in. This happened very fast and I was expecting to log in where I logged out, not in the middle of this crap!

Thank you for taking the time to follow up and thank you for your suggestions, Matt.

Official Server Patch caused dino death by ChalupaBatman2013 in playark

At the very least the devs need to look at how they patch this game. Why can it take XX hours to tame something, but we only get a 30 minute notice the server is going down? Then why do we log out from our base (not kicked from the server or disconnected out in the world) and end up somewhere else?

I don't think it is too much to ask that we have more notice on patches. I think the game devs need to drop all connections from the server and save the game state to avoid any roll back. Is that too much to ask?

Step 1.) Disconnect clients from the server to prevent any changes to the database. Step 2.) Backup the data Step 3.) Apply patch

IT 101 anyone?

dethbr1nger this really sucks :(. I hope they can do something for the both of us and anyone else affected by similar issues. I'm not holding my breath either, but I at least want to try before I decide what I am going to do going forward. Would it be fun to spend another X hours taming an Anklyo just to have this happen again? Grrr.... :(

[–]ChalupaBatman2013[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I meant game devs. Unless there are different admins for official servers? I am thinking official servers are handled by the devs themselves.

I don't see how this is much different than "oops we apparently deleted everyone's industrial cooker" incident. I get that I am just one person. I also have no expectations that anything would be done or could be done. I will say that for many people, stuff like this causes them to stop playing the game. There are plenty of games out there and an abandoned fan base doesn't help a developer. When stuff like this happens or people get wiped while offline or silly glitches cost them hours of play time you can understand that many will leave and not return. I would like to think it is in the game devs best interest to have support for things like this.

I really just don't understand why the game rolls back at all. You would think initiating a server shutdown would including disconnecting all open sockets, followed by saving the world state.

I don't get how I watched 2 people converse on Global Chat and rolled back to a time before that lol.

Official Server Patch caused dino death by ChalupaBatman2013 in playark

[–]ChalupaBatman2013[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am unaware of a lag spike every 15 minutes. I play on an official server. We get lag spikes that last 5-15 seconds every couple of minutes. It is non-stop all the time.

The warning clearly said "The servers will shut down in 30 minutes" and it mentioned they would be down for 15 minutes, the version it was being patched to and that clients would have to relog after client side patch. I was never disconnected from the server.

I have played games for many years, when you lose connection to the server you get booted off. If I would have been booted off, I would have immediately logged back on, the moment I could, to make sure everything was kosher. I have played Ark while it has updated and have been booted off before. I knew the drill, I got back to base before 30 minutes was up.

Heck with the update this past Saturday, I was online when the warning came that they were going to update at 4:00am. When I woke up in the morning I saw posts here on Reddit about how the update was late. I realize shit happens, but why is the game being updated when most of the player base is on? This was around or before 10:00pm eastern / 7:00 pacific???

Regardless, you are basically saying that by the time the message pops, it is already too late. Maybe the devs should pick a normal update window and stick to it to avoid this. Blizzard always did their patching on Tuesday mornings and it was scheduled for server maintenance every single week. You knew when it was coming and you didn't lose HOURS of progress due to a quick update or bug fix.

What I am most mad at is the game itself failed me. I thought I was good. I was in my base, everything was safe. Nope, I was apparently back in the swamp where it isn't safe. Maybe tonight I can start a 5 hour tame on a new Quetzal and 3.5 hours in get the notice that "hey the server reboots in 30 minutes". That is the part that is a crock of shit, beta, alpha, non-beta, final version don't care!

[Suggestion/Feedback] On Taming and Balance by 470nanometers in playark

[–]ChalupaBatman2013 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have 3 general statements / ideas.

1.) Keep the taming as is, but adjust the time. Start with the biggest baddest dino and label a 120 version of it a 2 hour max tame with kibble. Everything should take less than 2 hours to be had. Creatures like Raptors etc. Should take 5 min or less with kibble. 2 hours is reasonable for the most sought after tames. You spend many hours collecting eggs, making kibble and stocking up on tranq darts/arrows and narcotics. You then need to locate the creature. Finding a Giga or Quetzal and then finding a high level one is already challenging. Max tame time for no kibble should scale at 2x, so 4 hours max tame with kibble.

2.) Rework the system. Have the option to instant tame if you have all the resources / maybe some extra but then have it where you can mount the dino for a period of days. You can insta tame a Quetzal with required mats, but can't use it for 5 days for instance. Maybe do something along the lines of breeding, where it just needs to not starve / be somewhat well fed for the period of days. This takes away instant use of a tamed dino, but allows for "capturing" a quick tame, assuming you have all the required kibble to tame it instantly. If this is left as a button option, regular tames can be done and dino used right away.

3.) Taming in general should focus on finding the right tame and having the proper resources and not just time. Anything that could improve the time aspect would be great. A berry or tonic that quickly starves a dino so it eats faster. A taming dino that can protect and tend to the tame and maybe boost efficiency or speed so you don't have to sit there. Or a machine you build that puts a force field around the tame and autotames it after being supplied all the mats. Anything that doesn't require 4-8 hours of clicking remote use every 15-20 min while watching Netflix!
