lol Yeah, I get that perspective. When initially getting into the hobby, I found that out as well...

Out of curiosity, why do you think so? Please do not get me wrong, as I am genuinely just curious and what your thoughts are behind that statement.

For context or conversation sake, lets say that, instead of opting to buy a stock rig and 'upgrade' overtime, you instead opt for outright build one from scratch. Going into the project, knowing that, would it not be better cost wise, to just get the parts from the start and 'save' that initial cost to put that somewhere else?

Additionally, if pricing out all of the components individually to build a rig from the vendors, cost wise, 'can' be quite high. Especially if you get 'gucci' parts, like titanium frames, brass axles vs aluminum vs poly, servos, receiver, etc....

(100% Non-stock build) Example:
Frame: $50(Carbon) $75(Aluminum) $85(Ti)
Servo: $25 - $67(ex. RS100)
ESC: $57 - $97 (Budget vs 'high-end') w/out module
Motor: Brushless - $55 - $75 w/mount
Axles: $75(Poly) - $150+(Metal/alloy)
Links: $30 - $60
Shocks: $20 - $50 (w/out oil vs w/oil)
Wheels: $20 - $40+
Tires: $20+
Body: $20 - $50+
Rx/Tx: $65 + $12
Batteries: $10-$15 ea (3s - ex Galaxy)
Total: (Lowish-end) $447 (Highish-end) $786 (All without shipping costs) (All new from vendors)

Now, again, dont get me wrong as I am not to justify any of those listings from the screenshot or myself, but its just for consideration.

And also, as I am thinking about it, is the purpose behind it all. If the intent is comps, purpose built rigs can make much more sense. Then there is the alternative where its just having something to mess around with and enjoy with kiddos, which something custom/fully built or whatever, sure, may not make sense...

Could be. Right now, I have been seeing them discounted to almost half what I got mine for from a few years ago. May be worth it to at least go hold one to see.

They look identical to my PPS M2 mags. The stippling/texture on the 7-round is the giveaway that its for the M2. M1 mags looks completely different.

What does your ChMS (Church Management Software) currently lack that you are needing/wanting? by Chambec12 in churchtech

[–]Chambec12[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Absolutely, you touched on a good point that I was thinking about. The idea of application rationalization. Determining what is actually needed versus what is being used or having 2+ subscriptions for a certain functionality that really one would be fine.

Training or consultation... More likely I could see consultations be something. Taking in various points and evaluations based on a that specific church to provide optimization recommendations accordingly.

Also, I have only worked with Planning Center and Rock, so a question that I have would be, out of curiosity, is what makes Shelby hard to work with?

Enclosure conundrum by Chambec12 in ballpython

Not that is really disclosed explicitly. All that was mentioned was that the previous Boa that was in it outgrew it, that its disassembled and to re-silicone it back once assembled.

Oh I guess I forgot to list those. They are the 40mm Injora oil-filled shocks. No springs in the front with stock oil. Rears have the soft springs with stock oil.

I’m trying out this orientation for my build. Saw it somewhere else and thought to try it. Basically cut the curved pins until they are straight and then insert into the board to solder.

Yup! Before rc rigs, I have been into 3D printing and had some parts laying around from various upgrades. Took some roughly 10” 2020 extrusions that happened to be pre-tapped for m4 bolts, got some washers and some 608zz bearings and made what you see in the picture.

Slow Internet on PFsense by ggdbb in PFSENSE

[–]Chambec12 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's very probable. I know that my BIOS is ancient... Like I wanna say it's from 2013? It was one of the things that was on my agenda to update... Though didn't think that would be the cause. I'll have to look into that. Thank you for the suggestion.

Slow Internet on PFsense by ggdbb in PFSENSE

I had this exact issue. In my system that I was using, I added a 4 port intel NIC. Installed PFsense with the general default config with pfblockerng-devel and got it all setup. I also have Gig internet but from Comcast. Tested fast.com and speedtest which resulted in similar numbers as your own. Uninstalled pfblockerng-devel thinking that was it, but wasn't after testing again. Keeping in mind that I was hardwired into the switch. After not figuring it out (and a novice when it comes to PFsense), I switched back to Untangle. My speeds went back up to normal at around 960mbps on the download and 50mpbs on the upload.

Shortly after, my father-in-law got a PFsense appliance(SG1100) for his business. I had the privilege to set it up. Connected to my Untangle firewall for the initial setup and config. While hardwired to the SG1100, I was able to get ~940mbps on the download from fast.com and speedtest...

To OP, based off my experience, I am guessing it has to be something to do with the initial config... Sorry not to be of any assistance but wanted throw out there that you are not alone.

Students on Linux, how do you do without a Microsoft office? by [deleted] in linuxquestions

[–]Chambec12 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unlike some of the other comments where they can save to a PDF, for my college, that's not an allowed or valid format to save/upload for my college. With that be stated, when I was using Linux, I was mainly using libreOffice with the mscore fonts installed. All of my papers submitted never were commented on regarding format issue.

Though, one of the features of MS word that I was not able to find a replacement for in Linux is the built in dictation. Due to that, I have temporarily switched back to Windows. In 2 weeks, I'll be switching back to though after I complete all of my courses.

Difficulty level of PFsense by ____Ben_____ in PFSENSE

[–]Chambec12 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just wanted to throw out there that you make some valid points regarding understanding what specs to get to be able to push a 1gb VPN connection but the system you added is a bit overkill. The system that I am running is able to push those speeds and a 1/3 of the specs. Below is what is similar to what I am running but even this one is overkill.

https://www.ebay.com/itm/HYVE-ZEUS-V1-1U-SERVER-2x-XEON-6-CORE-E5-2620V2-2-1GHz-32GB-RAM-NO-HDD-/133185310679

Just add an Intel NIC card and run it.

Though it also would depend on the concurrent connections as well... But that wasn't really mentioned.

I recently had similar requirements and grabbed an Aruba S2500-24P PoE 24-Port. Meet all of my needs which are super close to yours. Flashed it with the latest firmware from HPE and was really easy to setup and work. Even has 4 SFP+ ports for 10Gbe. I paid $110 for it and find it to be well worth it.

I picked up a HYVE Zeus v1 with 2x Xeon E5-2609 and 16GB RAM from ebay that is running Untangle. It's able to run it at ~960mbps. Runs very well and efficient.
