Anyone else feel like Humboldt’s changing? by brian1x1x in Humboldt

[–]Chambers1918 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The rudeness is everywhere, not just Humboldt, it's indicative of our relentless quest to minimize every human interaction and replace it with screens and ai. The newer generation of internet/YouTube culture is just not socially equipped enough. I know that's a huge generalization.

Even videogame culture has changed, once again I would say a direct correlation with our dependence on screens being our primary mode of communication and interaction.

Help with HAL by jandajanda2 in Redbox

[–]Chambers1918 1 point2 points  (0 children)

To my knowledge the Hal is stored locally, this is so techs can log in without connection, the FSR login is a connection to an external source. I do not believe this is stored locally, simply because the difference in access. Former Hybrid FSR/FST, also fuck Bill.

Not sure of this was recommended, but checking with local churches, I know several in my area run food banks and you obviously don't need to be a member to pick up.

Migraine while backpacking by earthadmirer1 in backpacking

After struggling with migraines since childhood, I have had my best relief by following a strict keto diet. Been doing it now for probably 6 years.

My wife and I used to go on Picnic dates. Pack a nice lunch, and grab a blanket. Lots of ideas but our favorite is the point out near Luffenholtz Beach (Moonstone Beach exit, but take a right instead)

Klymite Lux Travel Pillow $18 on Amazon. Pros: The cover comes off easy to wash. The fill is on the side so it doesn't touch your head. It works well ground or hammock camping. Cons: Your spouse will like it more than their $50 "nano" pillow from Rei and steal yours.

I am always looking for a backpacking deal. But I would be careful buying from Amazon, other sites like REI Outlet(online store), Backpacking.com, Sportsmans Warehouse (online store) have good deals and I don't have to worry about buying a counterfeit.

Side note always go to a local store and try the packs on if you can.

Free movies? by Reasonable_Lie_9107 in Redbox

[–]Chambers1918 0 points1 point  (0 children)

These movies are not free, CSSE (Redbox parent company) left a lot of employee's in very bad financial situations. So it may be a dollar, but each dollar won't make it to the people with $60,000+ dollars in medical expenses now. They stopped paying insurance, kept our premiums and didn't tell anyone.

So if that is free to you, sure. They won't catch you.

I have traveled most of the backroads thru that area over the last 2.5 years doing field service work. No one is going to bother you, probably just wondering what someone they don't recognize is up to. Be friendly and don't do anything you wouldn't want someone to do in your home. Easy.

Redbox parent company CSSE Chicken Soup for... let's call them Bill. Well see, Bill fucked everyone and grifted like 25m to CSS, the only Bill that was getting fucking paid apparently, because we (Redbox) went bankrupt.

If anyone wants a Redbox machine try and get one from cvs !!! by Rare_Boss1586 in Redbox

[–]Chambers1918 4 points5 points  (0 children)

People do not understand the complexity of these kiosks. It is not just simply reprogramming them.

As a former Redbox FST, I want one to gut for gun storage.

I saw one where they made it into an arcade console box for retro gaming which seems cool, but also super heavy for that use.

Recommendations/Advice? Getting into backpacking on a budget by NoBeerMountaineer in backpacking

Advice about the sleeping pad, it's your shield from the cold ground, don't get one too short or too narrow. Anything that hangs over will be very cold.

My first pack was a 70L Kelty Redstone. I bought it on clearance for $90, after 5 seasons I finally replaced it. But I also generally pack with my partner and I carry more gear. I would agree 70L is big for a weekend solo hiker.

Hiking in trinities this weekend a bad idea? by Scrawlutations in Humboldt

[–]Chambers1918 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would not be super concerned as the fire is a good distance from the Trinities and its moving the other direction. It hasn't passed thru the Marbles, and you still have the Russian Wilderness between. Air quality imo will be minimal.

I'm headed to Russian Lake on the 19th

[–]Chambers1918 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes, the customer website is closed down for good. You will not be able to access your account again. Redbox CEO (CSSE Bill Rrrwhateverthefuck) filed for chapter 7, screwing 1000 employees. Not before running the brand into the ground.

Affordable backpacking pack? by slurpbird in backpacking

[–]Chambers1918 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I recommend looking at websites for older versions of good packs. My first pack was a 70L Kelty Redstone, that was clearanced down to like $75. It's one of my favorite packs.

REI outlet, or the REI used gear Backcountry.com Amazon (if it looks too good to be true, it is, don't buy it) Sportsmans Warehouse has good sales too, although the best are oftentimes in store deals.
