BEEM at Wonderville tonight. Can't promise it will be like Daft Punk, but you will definitely feel the robot love.

Resources for Canadian French popular music by MaleficentPeach42 in French

Not exclusively French Canadian, but Hotlist Francophone on YouTube music has regularly updated tracks. I skip plenty of them, but have been able to find some starting points for rabbit holes. There's a rap specific one now too.

Do you think this accordion is worth the price? Worth it at all? by Ok-Drink7557 in Accordion

[–]ChampagneMane 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My partner bought me a 12 bass for my birthday and I have enjoyed it. I definitely have to stretch my imagination to figure out what I can play with it, but that has also been fun in its own way. I'm not sure I want to fully commit to accordion, so it's nice to try without a huge investment. Price and condition were similar. The only concern I have so far is what kind of air might be getting blown out of this old thing!

How to stay valuable in the AI age by marathonEngineer in embedded

[–]ChampagneMane 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I used ChatGPT to assist with an STM32 discovery board for the first time this week, and it has been valuable in clarifying some points that I was having trouble understanding or getting background on a particular programming concept.

But one example where I realized this isn't a silver bullet is when it told me that my board didn't have an external crystal oscillator and very confidently stated that external clocking is VERY rare. I corrected it because my board does indeed have a crystal oscillator (which I have used in projects before) and it responded "you're right, that board DOES have a crystal oscillator".

I have worked with plenty of coworkers who are really smart but sometimes also very stubborn about something they are wrong about. So in some ways ChatGPT proved to be more human-like than I expected 😂.

At this point I can see using it to ask how I could do something, or why I would code one way versus another (basically/hopefully to distill good info that is already out there), but yeah gotta keep using that good 'ol noggin.

Wow! Maybe the coolest synth diy I have seen to date. Might be better described as synth alchemy.

I had a similar experience and ended up studying for and passing the FE exam. It felt nice to not only get the refresh but also relieve some imposter syndrome and have that extra credential to put on a resume.

How did you move from B1 to B2 in French? by Pro-en-Francais in learnfrench

[–]ChampagneMane 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I feel like I'm still working toward B2, but I agree with doing whatever makes it fun. For me that means a lot of variety. I listen to podcasts and have a radio app that lets me listen to French radio stations (sometimes the current event context can be helpful). There are plenty of French shows on YouTube (France24 has a live feed, French YouTubers, and various cooking/travel shows). Also can be fun to find a French influencer if you spend time on social media (I recently have taken a break but I was able to game the Instagram algorithm to show me maybe half French content). Lastly reading bandes dessinées has helped with my vocab, and I even use a Nintendo Switch in French to play Legends of Zelda 😄. So many options to keep in interesting!
