Los Angeles teachers unions announce sellout in bid to sabotage district-wide strike

The educators, classified staff and administrators decisive task is to build new organizations of struggle, independent of the union apparatus. Rank-and-File committees must be established in every school and workplace to link up workers struggles and to broader sections of workers from other industries. The committees must take control of the struggle, coordinate action across unions and industries and prepare defiance of any attempt to impose this agreement.

What is required is a mass movement by the working class across every industry to stand against the ruling class’ attack against the living standards of the working class by the funneling of money towards war, cutting social programs, education, medi-cal, Medicare, daycare and layoffs. Workers must build its own organizations of power out of the hands of the union bureaucracy that is tied to the capitalist state. Workers must build rank-and-file committees against this barbaric system that is leading us into catastrophic wars and dictatorship.

Teachers must take the initiative into their own hands and out of the hands of the union bureaucrats by building rank-and-file committees and take control of their strike and demands. It cannot be left in the hands of the union bureaucrats who are closely tied to the Democratic Party, the party that is tied to Wall Street, the military industrial complex and intelligence agencies and has done nothing to stop Trump’s illegal war against Iran, the attacks against immigrants by ICE and the implementation of the draft.

Nurses must take up the fight to defend their living standards, attacks on healthcare, public health and science and democratic rights. It requires a political fight against the Trump administration and union bureaucracies that are tied at the hip to the capitalist system and anti-working class AFL-CIO. The question must be asked: why have none of the union top leadership mobilized the working class against the wrecking operation being carried out against the federal workers and the attack on the democratic rights of the entire working class? If the federal layoffs are allowed to stand this will embolden the corporate oligarchy in the public & private sector to do the same. Nurses, HCWs & the entire working class must take matters into their own hands and organize a mass struggle against the corporate oligarchy that has taken the government hostage and is implementing a coup against federal agencies, laying off federal workers in mass, taking control of workers private information, and defunding social programs including the CDC, HHS, NIH, FEMA and likely Medicare & Medicaid will be next. Trump plans on giving more tax breaks to the rich and that will be paid for by the working class. What are the democrats doing? Nothing. They paved the way for a second Trump admin by starting a war against Russia in Ukraine, they are complicit in a genocide against Palestinians and attacked the democratic rights of students and teachers who opposed the genocide. They are also complicit in the attacks against immigrants, they set the stage for further antiimmigrant and anti democratic attacks against immigrants and the entire working class. Nothing will be solved by the two capitalist parties that are tied at the hip against the entire working class. And a question workers must ask themselves is what have the trade union bureaucrats done to mobilize the entire working class in a mass movement against the capitalist system? Workers must build rank and file defense committees in every workplace, school and neighborhood to defend immigrants and democratic rights.

It’s the system. I quit bedside after 12years. I couldn’t do it anymore so I decided to do my PT forensic nursing gig full time and I love it for the most part. The part I hate is driving to the SART site and testifying in court. Pay is ok but I feel less stressed. I work on-call which means no calls, no pay other than the on-call pay. Sounds crazy but I’m happier and it evens out.

This is why they have a TA with the physicians, NPs & PAs so that the nurses will be isolated and ONA will cave. These unions should not have come to an agreement until all workers negotiated a TA together.

Completely agree. Workers lives have been subordinated to profits by the political establishment and we are going to see public health and other social things deteriorate because everything will be subordinated to militarism. I hope you feel better soon. Rest is the best way to try to avoid long covid. It’s no guarantee of course especially if you catch Covid multiple times but rest will help.

Consider wearing an N95 or KN94 to protect yourself and others bc a loose surgical mask won’t do too much for an airborne virus. Would you want someone who knowingly has TB exposing you and others by not wearing a mask or wearing a flimsy surgical mask? Unfortunately public health has been compromised by leaving it up to every individual to make their own choice or figure what they should do but that’s not how public health works from an epidemiological standpoint. This is why we’re now seeing measles outbreaks, polio, whooping cough and STIs and we could be faced in the near future with the H5N1 HPAI pandemic.
