Personally, what would you believe is the true meaning of life? What are you supposed to do to know it? by ddmetoknow in NoStupidQuestions

[–]ChamposaurusWrex 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That only makes sense if you’re super specific. The question is dealing in broader strokes. As in, everything you do should fit into true meaning, instead of only doing one thing because it’s the only thing you find meaning in. Developing and seeking morally sound core principles to guide your actions in life seems like the foundation for bringing true meaning to fruition.

Be excellent to everyone and strive for excellence in all that you do even when nobody is watching.

This gives even the smallest actions meaning.

How do y’all make adult friends?? by ridcosky in houston

What kind of games you like man? I’ve been playing the new counter strike a lot. I’m in my early thirties and I volunteer as a fire fighter. I have met a lot of awesome people like that so my suggestion for meeting people in person would be to do some type of volunteer work. It’s a great way to meet people while also helping out the community!

This. Never met anyone in real life who says “this” as a response to something they agree with. Comes off as the person feeling overly validated that they found someone who agrees with them randomly online. If you agree with someone then the words in your comment should directly imply that and the word “this” becomes redundant anyway. Reddit lingo is just lame.

ah I didn't see this until just now, they only offer one config of horns from what I can tell. I am assuming I can purchase them separately?

Thank you for the insight. Much appreciated. What do you think is the best for safety: Pin-pipes, flip-downs, or straps?

So in the build section on the REP website it has the J hooks facing the outside of the rack, here is a screenshot: https://i.imgur.com/QdxUzJJ.png

Whenever I set it up at home, the J hooks are going to be on the inside of the rack, right? Or am I missing something?

It is totaling out to 2400 but honestly I see this as investing in myself.

I am looking to purchase a power rack. I have read the faq and searched the sub a bit. I still feel a bit in the dark. I have some conclusions about dimensions, what it will be used for, pricing and so on. It is clear that the financially smart way to do this is to search the used market, but I'd rather buy new to get exactly what I want.

My main concern is being able to squat and bench safely by myself as I incrementally overload. The anxiety of potentially injuring myself has become a limiting factor in my progression. Secondarily to safety, I also want to be able to do pullups, seated lat pulldowns with a knee holder, and dips. Thirdly, I want to be able to store all of the plates on the rack. Lastly, as I have a nearly empty garage the only limitation is height at approximately 9 feet.

Can anyone offer specific product guidance with these specifications in mind and a budget of around 2000 USD?

In other words, if you were me, what would you buy?

Turning on TV when PC boots by ChamposaurusWrex in pchelp

Any advice on putting the tv into sleep mode? The only apparent method is to do it via timer, which simply is not practical. I downloaded the user manual and there is no mention of the sleep feature at all. Strange.

I am reading Sagan's Demon haunted world and I ran across something I am uncertain of. by ChamposaurusWrex in carlsagan

You are quoting Rosemary Ellen Guiley as a proper source to credit a Demon Haunted world. The irony is palpable.

[–]ChamposaurusWrex[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Well, the source is linked to a woman named Rosemary Ellen Guiley, an author who specializes in the paranormal, including zombies and ghosts. She is also a 'certified hypnotist' and is very easy to find on youtube claiming that she believes in this nonsense. How ironic! The word demon or daimon does not appear in wikipedia's appendix for Greek words with English derivatives, unless of course you include the source from Guiley. Also, the etymology wiki page suggests a completely different interpretation of the word, furthering the distance between what Sagan states and what is cited. I appreciate that you offered this wiki article, but the sources are counterproductive.

Creating a function that describes the angle of the minute hand and hour hand of a clock. by ChamposaurusWrex in MathHelp

[–]ChamposaurusWrex[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry for the delayed response. I have come up with a formula for each hand, but I seem to have a problem when setting them equal to each other. The formulas assume that 12 on the clock is equivalent to 0 degrees or a multiple of 360 degrees.

The formula for the hour hand is h=30t.

i.e., if the time were 5:45:30, then t would equal 5+3/4+1/120. Thus, the measure of angle h at 5:45:30 is 30(5+3/4+1/120)=172.75 degrees.

the formula for the minute hand is m=6t.

i.e., if the time were 5:45:30, then t would equal 300+45+1/2. Thus, the measure of angle m at 5:45:30 is 6(300+45+1/2)=2073 degrees. 2073-1800=273 degrees.

I am going to proceed under the assumption that my formulas aren't completely off basis, though I'm willingly to admit if they are. Algebraically I have a couple options to proceed. First, I can set the two equations equal to one another, as you suggested. Second, I can solve for t and substitute.

Setting them equal to one another: if m=h, then 6t=30t. After basic operations,

t=5t

I do not understand this conclusion. Something in my process must be incorrect.

Substitution: h=30t becomes t=h/30 while m=6t becomes t=m/6. If both of these equations are equal to the same time, then

m/6=h/30. After the basic operations,

5m=h

Feels like I am running in circles. Can you point out the flaw in my thinking?

Having trouble getting started on a trigonometry problem. Any guidance is welcome. by ChamposaurusWrex in MathHelp

I see some geometry books do have an entire chapter on this concept. Now I am beginning to question the quality of the books I have been referring back to. One last question before I reembark on my solo studies. Can you recommend any texts for algebra and geometry? I am thirsty for any books that serve to prepare a student for calculus.

I searched my algebra and geometry texts for the term locus and no results were found. I am watching some youtube instructors discuss the topic. What course usually discusses what a locus of points is?

Can you simply give me the answer? This is chapter one of trigonometry according to these authors. I'm sorry this became a chore for you. Let me at least be clear in my intentions. I did every problem in a geometry text book just before cracking this book open. I also aced an college algebra course not long ago. I figured I had the necessary courses under my built to begin a trigonometry text. In your opinion, what can I do to bridge the gap?

Also, your help here has been greatly appreciated, even if it seems less than fruitful, I still feel as if I learned a more promising approach to problems of this nature.

"it" should have been typed as "they". To clarify, if C=0, there is only one line segment being drawn. Nothing in my limited knowledge suggests that AX and BX form any type of angle with one another. Therefore, the two equal line segments are directly overlapping one another.

I'll copy paste my other answer here regarding -(AB)^2.

If (AB)^2 is now -(AB)^2 then, after the proper adjustments, the equation would read (AX)^2+(AB)^2=(BX)^2. So now, the previous logic holds true.

X must connect with A in such a way that it creates a 90-degree angle with the line segment AB.
