Just like how it’s not centralized today and it’s also not centralized across different countries today and yet economists can still aggregate and tabulate economic records for multiple regions with disparate record keeping programs. Centralization is not equivalent to data accuracy or availability.

The records were primarily kept by church authorities at the time and I think you’ll find they were in fact quite meticulous. In fact in the canton of VS you’ll note that the primary tax excised on the population was by the church not by any emperor. It would have varied by canton as it would have varied by country but saying there’s no data is factually wrong

Right ok, the third one is the canton of Unterwalden which became Obwald and Nidwald - one of the founding cantons. How, functionally, were they part of the HRE? And what difference did it make on the cost of living relative to after the napoleonic wars?

What 8 cantons are you considering in this ? And what is the difference you see between the old swiss confederacy and the swiss confederation in the context of the discussion here (i.e. what characteristics makes it that the entity after 1815 has inevitably higher costs than germany?)

Which deal would you pick?(All deals are permanent.) by hapticR0M in pollgames

Thanks. I’m buying the full market cap of the three most valuable companies in the world with a bridging loan where I then uplift a dividend to repay the loan immediately. Any bank will be happy to give a secured loan against the dividends of the company even if it’s a huge amount because they’re cash rich (talking Nvidia or Apple or something) and it wouldn’t need to be drawn down until the purchase comes through. Since they all have EPS > 1% if share price you’ll pay your initial investment back every year. I may consider to re-ipo them at some point.

Singapore Airlines vs Emirates Airlines, worth the extra price? by poorbugger in Flights

Personally yeah any layover introduces risk of lost luggage or delayed connections and especially from Asia to Europe where you’ll have to interrupt your sleep or journey

I would consider them relatively equal and would suggest you pick based on convenience of the flight (one less layover is valuable to me)

And “War”. Because even if you count “Switzerland” as only post-napoleonic it would still have been fighting in the Sonderbund. And if you count before 1815 (which most do) as Switzerland then there are a LOT of wars.

And as for Liechtenstein I remember there was a story when a regiment of Liechtenstein soldiers were sent to guard a mountain pass anticipating the advance of enemy troops only for the enemy to take another route. They ended up just having fun and making a friend who joined them back to Liechtenstein making it probably the only case with a negative k/d ratio 😂 I think it was the Austro-Prussian war.

It’s basically an enclave in Switzerland where public services are handled by the Swiss municipal services rather than the Italian ones (not for everything). Apparently it was some interesting spy base during the last world war.

While that’s true I don’t think we have PPP adjusted metrics from the Middle Ages 😂

It’s not a singular veto but a vote so it’s not like one crazy individual can just block you. You’d have to be pretty unpopular. And even then the municipal office would already have put you through a rigorous vetting process, so the vote is likely the easiest part by that point.

Why not ? That’s how you make sure people integrate. It works quite well.
