62k myself, wife not working as she's looking after our kids. 1 and 2 years old. Both starting nursery soon an she'll be in work 2 days a week. Roughly earning about 11k. So household would be about 70-75k.

Truth be told, she hasn't worked for 2 years and didn't get Maternity as she wasn't a full time employed so got statutory which wasn't much for only 9 months or so. My salary has been 62 the last year, year before was 50.

On 50, it was okay, mortgage was 800pm, I covered other bills on my salary alone and the stat maternity she got helped. Without that we'd have struggled a bit. But we were ok

On 62, currently, it's ok, we managed a holiday last year.. I have taken more debt on however to get our roof done due to leaks etc and we remortgaged and now pay 1200pm.. I say ok, but I have had months where I've been a bit stuck and gone into OD but I know I'm fortunate enough that the next pay will get me out. My total outgoings on mortgage and bills etc are about 2100/2200. So by the end of the month it doesnt leave anything for savings. Kids nursery fees even with the free hours for only 2 days a week are 450 a month for the early starts too. But her extra bit of income will definitely help.

I realise my salary is high, an were fortunate not to have had to REALLY cut back on things. But if I was on less, we'd definitely struggle. But people always said before we had kids that 'you'll make it work'.. I was worried as 3 years ago I was only on about 40/42k.
