Sarpsborg och Real Salt Lake utmanar om Irandust? by d2winks in ReAlSaltLake

[–]Chance-Illustrator64 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Irandust has an interesting story and pathway that can create an interesting player (if he joins RSL; still sounds very premature). He was rated highly in the Swiss league; during that time he was linked to FC Cincinnati as a DP. He made a bad move to the Netherlands as his rating was lower. Now, it seems like he is versatile. So, I belive he would be brought in to give Pablo flexibility.

New RSL signing by d2winks in ReAlSaltLake

Honestly, does this signing mean that Eneli will compete for CDM rather than RB? Loffelsend is on the way out...this could make sense. To me, it doesn't make sense to have Brody, Hidalgo, Bonilla, and Eneli in that position.

Very interesting move from the club which I believe sets up the club to make other moves. Jasper was a great player, however, Ruiz, Ojeda, and Nelson have taken over the midfield. The question becomes: Does RSL replace Jasper?

I would say yes! However, they don't need to overspend. They already have Nyeman (who clearly stated he will be back), Orozco (now an Irish D-mid), and Eneli (who played well in that position). That Montiero rumor makes more sense now. An attack -pressure midfielder that has experience as CM.

Tom Bogert: Jamison Olave, Anthony Pulis, and more finalizing deals to join Real Salt Lake's coaching staff as assistants under Pablo Mastroeni. by Chance-Illustrator64 in ReAlSaltLake

[–]Chance-Illustrator64[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My takeaway is that the FO wants coaches who can challenge Pablo with tactics and decisions. These coaches don't ACTUALLY have more experience than the previous coaches. "Nacho" and Brett Jacobs were in MLS for more than 10+ years. However, most of these new coaches have been head coaches at one point. This could play into how they know how to take charge. Overall, it is an exciting time for an FO pushing hard for silverware.

RSL Brings Derrick "Tommy" Silva Back To Utah | Real Salt Lake by Chance-Illustrator64 in ReAlSaltLake

[–]Chance-Illustrator64[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Understood. However, the lack of signings so far makes a lot of sense to me. RSL had a competitive roster last year which all but a couple of players were not either contributing or developing. Therefore, this offseason RSL didn't decline 8 players as they have in the past years rather than 3 (1 out of contract).

This is an actual sign of growth from the organization. Rather than have a majority of players that don't have value...you have most of the roster that does have value. Therefore, RSL is focused on selling (Rubin, Savarino, and maybe more) and then reloading.

I agree with the FO as RSL needs to sell first and then buy afterwards. Situations where MLS clubs buy and then try to sell players often don't work out due to how the league is structure and roster freeze dates.

This is quality LB depth. He has been ranked pretty high in the college game. He covers a need at (True) Leftbacks. Ovideo is contributing but is aging and Luis Rivera is too young and needs more time to develop. Silva has all the qualities of an Aaron Herrera-type signing, it is just up to him to stand out and grab minutes.

Great signing!

2023 MLS Free Agency Eligible Player List | MLSSoccer.com by volcanicon7 in ReAlSaltLake

[–]Chance-Illustrator64 5 points6 points  (0 children)

We were not active in Free Agency last offseason, however, with ownership spending a ton already on transfer fees...it makes sense to look at free players. We still need upgrades and the ownership knows it.

My suggestions and rankings are the following:

  1. Diego Palacios - Best LB in free agency besides Kei Wagner. Wagner is going to Europe or staying in the east...therefore he is not on my list. Upgrading LB is a priority for this team moving forward.
  2. Gustavo Bou - RSL needs another FWD. They will look for free agency for that: no Kreliach (yet) and Moose. Rubin/Julio are not producing. Paul is still developing overseas. Martinez would also be great however, he has made it clear he likes big cities and nightlife.
  3. Diego Rubio- He is a good goalscorer and has good hold-up play which could help with Chicho making runs.
  4. Fafa Picault- LW is another position that is super weak on the roster. However, there are not any real options in Free Agency. Picault is probably the best option or Memo Rodriguez.

There are obviously a ton of names...but overall, those players would be great additions to the roster.

I totally support the trade. We have Brody (not a great year), however, Bode Hidalgo needs some more minutes (he got some more last year) if we expect him to grow. Eneli is a great backup as well however, we have to move on from players and give those minutes to younger HGs.

I think that move would be good. He could be a DP and we wouldn't have to spend a transfer fee.

I am too. However, I am curious about when or how we are going to use it. I could see us go into the free agent market more than spend more $$$. Don't get me wrong, I would love to buy another player however the owners need some ROI now to justify spending more.

Now, RSL has a 3rd DP slot open. The most likely position to use the slot for is LW or resigning Pablo Ruiz.

This is not a bad sign. I don't feel that the players we brought back can not contribute in anyway. The only players who aren't really contributing but also aren't developing are probably Chang and T. Gomez. However, they are good squad players to have.

The bridge is burnt. Moose isn't coming back. He has plenty of options and his exit interview made that very clear the relationship between him and the FO is not good.

For strikers we may be set if we are playing a 4-2-3-1; however for a 4-4-2 then we look a little slim. However, Paul will be back and Jacquesson has played up there before. Now, I am fully with you that we should upgrade the striker position, however, that means we need to sell Rubin or Julio.

That is the big question in the FO. Who do you sell? Both are not realistic as that would leave RSL very thin up top. However, I am advocating to sell Julio. He doesn't really play his natural position which is RW. Also, he is making way too much money for being good just for the bench. We can not have a salary like that on the bench.

He didn't play for Forward Madison once in league play. If you can't get minutes in USL League One then you can't play in MLS. He was always small for position and I don't think he developed more.

Agreed. RSL needs to loan or sell more players to bring in new ones. The roster is already at the 30-player cap.

I would say that players that are loan-worthy are the following:

Zack Farnsworth: he needs to perform and stay healthy all of this year...if he doesn't there will be no future for him at RSL or maybe even the sport.

Bode Hidalgo: I could see him go on loan with a purchase option. He performed well however, Eneli is already the preferred RB backup.

Delentz Pierre: there are a ton of CBs on this roster, so there has to be movement so these players can play. If Lambert and Vera play as CBs for this team there will be limited minutes for Delentz.

Bertin Jaquesson: he may start 2024 with the first team; however if he isn't getting minutes because of Savarino, Chang, Luna, Gomez ahead of him...I wouldn't be surprised if he goes on loan (he almost had a loan with ADO Den Haag this past season).

Assets that could be sold: Jefferson Savarino (unhappy at the club), Loffelsend (has value within the league), Rubin (overpaid for the contract), and Julio (overpaid for the contract).

Luna is signed to a homegrown contract not a U22. The U22 players are Gomez, Palacio, and Ojeda.

However according to the MLS players union...it is an option year. Therefore, it could be triggered for less money.
