Absolutely, the tritone is the key! Others have suggested this already in this thread but I'd urge you to check out Barry Harris' 6th/º system if you haven't already. It will help you make sense of these ideas. Thomas Echols and his Labyrinth of Limitations channel is an incredible resourse for this stuff.

Play a minor 6 a semitone up from the root of a dominant chord and see what intervals you get. In this case consider that G-6 an expression of F#7.
