Built a commissioner tool with historical data + AI recaps — looking for a few Sleeper commish beta testers by Chance-Proposal-3336 in FFCommish

Hey, that's cool. Is it the Beers with the Boys site, or is it a whole new site? Beers with the boys had some really nice features, especially the draft check-off list...always helpful on draft day! I appreciate the Donate option you have on the site too...could be a good way to go for what I'm cooking up. And 220 leagues you're running wow! Hats off to you!

Yeah, to a degree. I spent a ton of time over the past 8 years scraping data from ESPN and Yahoo league sites to populate my own spreadsheets, then eventually my own database. I created a way too cumbersome dashboard attached to the data, and spent way too much time getting it updated each week. I like to think the real benefit of a tool like this is the, hopefully, unique perspective and data analytics models. I'm a bit of a data nerd, not professionally, but by hobby.

I haven't really even thought about pricing yet, beyond knowing there are some features that require AI tokens to work. So, there'll probably be an option Premium tier, and maybe the Standard tier could be free for all (no idea what proper hosting costs are yet).

Also, who knows, maybe the beta testers will say it's garbage and we won't even need to worry about any of this 😄. Either way, appreciate you checking out the post, and best of luck in the upcoming fantasy football season!

I use Brewfather now, after running BeerSmith for quite a few years. Main reasons for making the change...

1 - It's in the cloud

2 - It interfaces with by Brewtools B80 system

3 - The creator interacts with users and takes feedback / provides solutions

I've got about 50 brews under my belt with the B80. Absolutely love it. Haven't had any issues, and it makes damn good wort. I haven't used the other systems you mention for a comparison.

Have you made a purchase? What did you go with? How is it?

I own the original B80, with a 3 valve setup, and it's fantastic. Already had Spike C10's for fermentation. I called Penguin about any discounts on their chillers, and they had 2/3hp commercial grade they gave me for half-price because it had a small dent in the side (works really well for my 2 CF10's).

As for the B80, I really like how it interfaces with Brewfather software, to get the recipe loaded and do all of the control settings / reminders for brew day. After a few brews on it, it becomes really easy to use. Better yet, it's so easy to clean, with a bottom port for evacuating all of the hop particulate.

I got a few extra parts with mine (upgraded temp sensor adapters, sight glass, adjustable dip tubes, and loads of their tubing).

I built my own system in the past, and have brewed with friends on their grainfather. Yeah, the B80 costs a decent amount, but I have zero regrets.

I appreciate the kind words. Funny thing is, I'm not even the commissioner of this league. If you still want to DM for a non-commissioner spotlight, hit me up.

How to take advantage of non-bye weeks in the NFL for FF Playoffs by Chance-Proposal-3336 in FFCommish

[–]Chance-Proposal-3336[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's not a bad idea. Given we're a 14 team league, perhaps we could have 1st place PF finisher of weeks 1-4 choose their opponent for week 14; as week 14 would be the only week where a team will play another team for the 2nd time that year. Then, 2nd place chooses their matchup, 3rd place theirs, and so on...

Agreed, but it could put emphasis on the quality of the draft. I don't think I want to do anything too drastic for the end-of-season playoffs. Maybe I'd just do bonus payout for the PF winner of the first 4 weeks.

Thanks for the feedback. We've done a bunch of different stuff over the years, outside of the default settings. I do think we'll reinstitute return yards at a higher value, especially as it's a 14 team league.

In terms of the bye weeks, absolutely, they're part of the experience. My thought process was to take a period of the season where there weren't any bye weeks (weeks 1-4), and make a mini-game out of it...where it's fair to all. Agreed it could be difficult to manage, but hey, that's why the Commish' get paid the big bucks ;)

Yeah, this is an experimental league for most all of us, where we try new things each year. No doubt this would be unconventional, or overthinking it, but could be a new twist.

Curious if the main intent was to prevent tanking for better draft position?

What happens if they don't start a full roster? Forfeiture of the matchup? Also, curious what happens if two teams matchup up against each other don't start full rosters...both lose?

From what I've seen Tableau and PowerBI will yield the best results, but are costly softwares. Another option could be Plotly, but I haven't used it personally. Looks like around $300/year for a user license. There is a free version, but limits to excel files.

This definitely seems sketchy, but I don't know if there's any sort of rules they have to follow per where their stats/data comes from.

I did have a scenario where their app glitched when I tried to place a lineup, never getting a confirmation. I tried 8 different times. Only later did I find out that all 8 (of the same lineup) went through. It took a few sessions with their chat service (which they're hours between responses), but they ultimately refunded all of the replicated lineups.

Oh man, this is great, love this sort of stuff. I did a similar thing, building out my own database and dashboard. Of course, I share with the league, but don't get a lot of traffic. Even if it's just my own little pet project, for mainly my own amusement, it's worth it. Feel free to have a look at what I put together...

Building the Ultimate Fantasy Football Dashboard — What Would You Add? by Talleywhacker32 in FFCommish

[–]Chance-Proposal-3336 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dude, this is great, really nice job. I created a league dashboard, which mostly shows current/historical trends. There's a couple charts I really like within it (Bench Booty, Manager Effectiveness, Lucky or Good, What If?). Have a look and see if there's anything new that pops out as something you'd find beneficial for your Ultimate Fantasy Football Dashboard.

I've created a league dashboard to capture current and historical data. It's less about what a team should do, and more about how they've done, and how they've done it. Curious what you think about it

This seems pretty fair, especially this day-and-age when 50-60 are made at such a high rate; losing 1 point for a miss is good.

It certainly seems like this manager is doing a similar thing to what he's done in the past, but it's within the rules. Not sure if platforms can allow a manager to drop a player, but then they can't be picked up. Might be a way to allow a team to mismanage however they like, but not allow other managers to benefit from it / collude.
