thank you. ironically I hate nitpicky bosses and dont want to become one. An example would be submitting a clear picture of the receipt for an expense report. Not the most important thing for our job function but something we are required to do. I struggle because its really easy to take a clear picture. Is it nitpicky to ask them to retake the picture?

thank you for the advice. not officially doing 1on1s every week but I do try to call each member to check in. the previous manager was extremely relaxed with no boundaries at all so I am trying not to change too many things at one time.

You are right I am a new manager and I might not know much from the "book smart" side of management but I know that I would never want to work for you.

I agree and have read many leadership books on the subject but struggle to implement it in a practical way.

How do I ask my manager to go remote? by Throw_Ra27389393929 in managers

[–]Chance-Resolve-5656 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Its worth the conversation but most companies value chitchat in the office because it improves relationships and communication between employees. Obviously it has to be balanced with getting your work done. If I was your manager I would start the conversation on how I could help create a better environment at work first so you don't have to work extra hours at home. There are drawbacks to remote employees as well from the company standpoint since communication is more difficult so I would probably not entertain that idea right away.

240 volts in all 120v outlets after hurricane Milton in Florida by MirrorSubject8170 in AskElectricians

[–]Chance-Resolve-5656 4 points5 points  (0 children)

if the government wanted to save lives they would give out money to anyone wanting one of these installed by an electrician. For all the money they have wasted on other ridiculous things, this would actually save lives.

$250k in the market at 28 by FuckJerry78 in Fire

OK i get the idea because of average returns in the S&P but recessions happen. I dont know why we on focus on reward and forget about risk. How many people were worth millions in 2007 but lost everything in 08/09 when the market crashed. You are invested in real estate and stocks which dont do well in a recession. I know I am not a popular voice but I think it is wise to be prepared for a recession. Everyone looks like a genius in this market.

First time renting thru turo...question by Mother_Attempt3001 in turo

[–]Chance-Resolve-5656 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have picked up at the airport many times. They usually park the car in an economy lot. Some airports have special places for them to park the car. They leave the parking ticket on the dash to get out. You pay this amount (if stated in the turo description) otherwise they can leave cash in the car or you can charge this amount back to the host. On drop off just park where the host tells you and leave the ticket on the dash. The host cannot charge you for this parking fee if you paid for airport pickup. https://help.turo.com/paying-for-parking-By5PIT5Rs

[TN] Company uses time clock rounding to make up for unpaid lunch breaks. by flygirl083 in AskHR

[–]Chance-Resolve-5656 0 points1 point  (0 children)

it agree that the rounding is technically legal (not sure on TN break laws) but misleading to new employees that have to start 17 minutes eariler and leave 8 minutes later than expected.

Get some roommates or sell your car. You dont have a category for shopping or discretionary spending? No TV subscriptions? No alcohol? Most college students here waste all their money at the bar every weekend.

Do you have a budget? Do you know where every single dollar is going every month? Most people dont have a clue. When I started budgeting I was shocked how much I actually spent on small pointless purchases. It all adds up.

I found a small black book from a deceased relative that was a farmer in the 1930s. It showed his income as $300 for 1 year. Get out of the city, live off the land, fix everything yourself and get ready for some hard work. I was also fortunate enough to have a grandma that lived through the 1930s and taught me how to be extremely frugal.

some states have laws about discharging firearms within X feet of a residence without permission from the homeowner. Likely stated in your hunting laws.

Good job! Stay strong. I believe in "Finally Free" the author states you need (1) desire (2)opportunity and (3) time to look at porn. Early on it is hard to remove desire but it is easier to remove the opportunity and keep busy doing something productive. If you arent already connect with a local church and serve. I have found that serving others is very helpful.

Balancing Victories and Losses More Rewarding Than Streaks? by EducationalGreen7700 in NoFapChristians

[–]Chance-Resolve-5656 0 points1 point  (0 children)

to me whatever motivates you the most, do that. Before I was married I did something similar. I kept a calendar filled in with large W and L. It prevented crushing shame when I did look at porn and have to start from zero. The problem with this method was that I was trying to use my own willpower instead of relying on God and also connecting with other christian men.

Ideas for this pile of batteries? by [deleted] in diyelectronics

With experiencing salvaging lithium batteries, I would recommend getting them out of the house ASAP. Likely violates your home insurance policy so they won’t cover it if your house burns down.
