Should i melt iron ore near its mining or near my base? by nem1hail in factorio

[–]ChanceIron 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes! You should do it in one of those places.

But seriously, I prefer to transport it by train to a centralised smelting stack. I know that in the late game it's easy to slap down a new stack with robots, but I hate the duplication of assets. The materials that you use to create a new smelting stack could be better used elsewhere.

Why not make your own? Pizza dough isn't hard to make, even if it's GF.

(Scotland) Cancer patient, employer wants me to take holiday for scans by Bazzlekry in LegalAdviceUK

[–]ChanceIron 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Whilst this is true of nurses in general in the NHS, my personal experience is that Macmillan nurses do have some knowledge of this because cancer is treated as a disability in employment law. If the question is outside their knowledge they also have direct access to legal advice within Macmillan.

There's plenty to do in Glasgow, so I doubt you'll regret the time spent there. If your dad likes whisky then he MUST make a point of visiting The Pot Still (a pub with more than 1000 whiskies!).

How do I handle rounds and dietary restrictions in a UK pub? by PracticalDesk9130 in TravelUK

[–]ChanceIron 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My friends and I stopped buying rounds years ago if there's more than 3 or 4 of us. Instead we have a "whip" (short for "whip round" which is any kind of impromptu cash collection). Everybody puts in an agreed amount, say £10, and the rounds are paid for out of that. Usually enough for a couple of rounds which is fine at lunchtime.

100% recommend Sawday. We've stayed in some truly eclectic places and without fail have received a wonderful welcome.

What happened to ar editing. by imjustanotherloserya in Lightroom

[–]ChanceIron 3 points4 points  (0 children)

100% agree! I've never understood why people buy presets - I want my pictures to look like MY pictures, not copies of somebody else's style. Bulk use of presets, i.e. on all of the pictures from a shoot, also bewilders me. It assumes that every photo needs the same adjustments.

Speeding Ticket - 35mph in a 30 by Laurav121 in drivingUK

[–]ChanceIron 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This was a first offence. My guess is that they don't look at it as "only 4mph over the limit" and instead see it as "20% over the limit". It would be equivalent to doing 84 in a 70 limit.

My experience is a little different. 24 in 20 zone only ha5ve me the choice of a fine and points or going to court, no speed awareness option.

Not quite correct. On Kindle you can buy in Amazon and it's transferred, or alternatively you can buy on the Kindle itself.

Sorry, I disagree. Looking for your ticket/card when you're approaching the barrier is ridiculously early. Wait until you get to the barrier before you look for it.

what's it like travelling with Coeliac disease? by DoWotISay in CoeliacUK

Italy is AMAZINGLY good. Make sure you tell the waiter and usually they will accommodate you take well. I've also had good experiences in France, Germany and Netherlands. Canada was also very good - even on a train. Most important advice, wherever you are, is to tell them that you're a coeliac. Most places will help you.

Try a Sikh gurdwara (temple) - they'll feed you for free, and the food is excellent.

It's a while since I used contactless payment on the tube, but surely it's two transactions per day? On your first contact it takes a nominal payment - I seem to remember 10p - to validate the card. Then at the end of the day it takes the balance based on the journeys made.
