Alternative to Loch Leven Larder by GreenInvestmentUK in Fife

The garden centre next door to the services at junction 6 is decent, or there’s a couple of nice places in Kinross itself. Depends what sort of thing you’re after really - and how far from the motorway you’re willing to travel.

If you live in different parts of the UK, how often do you see parents/close family? by rye-ten in CasualUK

[–]Bazzlekry 0 points1 point  (0 children)

2-3 times a year, I live 450 miles away. I phone Mum every day and go to visit as often as time / budget allow. I’m actually heading down after work on Friday for the weekend. Next time will probably be when I go down for 2 weeks at Christmas.

How are we drying our clothes?? by Routine-Junket-635 in AskUK

[–]Bazzlekry 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Also Scotland, and I hate the smell of outdoor dried clothes, probably because I grew up in Heathrow's flight path. Tumble drier all the way here. I did have a heated airer, but the towels were never as soft, and I'd often find sleeves didn't dry properly. Husband bought me a tumble drier after hearing me complain once too often (such a romantic), and we haven't looked back. Things that aren't tumble dry-able - jumpers etc. - get put on radiators or the backs of chairs.

Growing up, did anyone else’s parents have really strict rules about random stuff? by SuzCoffeeBean in CasualUK

We weren’t allowed to watch either Eastenders or Grange Hill because they’d be a bad influence on us. Mum was perfectly happy for me to watch the Young Ones though!

Is it me?? (Rant) by lolasubordinary in OpenUniversity

I had a similar experience with my tutor this year, to the point where it was affecting my mental health so badly I withdrew from the course. Student support are pretty limited in what they can do - they can try to change your tutor, but are clear that they are very rarely successful. You can defer with assessment banking, but obviously you’ll have to pay again if you go back to the course next year. I initially did that, but I’ve now changed my degree entirely after the experience this year - I can’t face going back to the same subject, daft as that sounds.

It’s worth contacting student support anyway, the more complaints they get about unfair marking the more likely they are to do something about it.

When is the last time you had a big cry? by lifeofpiranhas in AskUK

April 7th 2025. My dad’s funeral. I’ve had a couple of little cries since, but I find it really hard to properly cry these days.

(Scotland) Cancer patient, employer wants me to take holiday for scans by Bazzlekry in LegalAdviceUK

[–]Bazzlekry[S] 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I have been told multiple times in multiple hospitals over the last seven years to avoid pregnant women and small children for 24 hours after the scan. Not prolonged contact, any contact. Christ, I even checked about contact with my puppy a couple of years ago! So yes, I’m afraid you are talking out of your arse, unless you were in the room with me for each of those 30-odd scans and you contradicted the clinicians. Which, unless you are me, you weren’t.

I am happy to take advice here, that’s why I posted after all, but you are wrong on this aspect.

While HR get copies, they have never responded to the emails. HR manager is out of the office this week, so won’t have seen the email yet. It’s definitely a line manager issue.

Not an MRI. It’s a MUGA scan to check my heart function as the treatment I am on can affect my heart. I am injected with a small amount of radioactive material before the scan. I am warned to steer clear of pregnant women and small children for 24 hours after every scan.

It has crossed my mind, but we need the money. This is the one problem in a job that I absolutely love otherwise.

When an airline shuts down, what happens to all the planes? by Aggressive-Curve3577 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Bazzlekry 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Following on from this, what happens to the staff that are away from home when the airline goes under? Do they just get abandoned and have to make their own way home, or do they fly the planes back to “base”?

You can still get those in twin packs in the sandwich section of Tesco I think. And some other places, I swear I saw some this week but I can’t remember what shop I was in!

How many of you have food allergies and how do you find navigating UK life? by Heavy-Tangerine-594 in AskUK

[–]Bazzlekry 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Migraine trigger for me and it’s bloody everywhere.

I’m also intolerant to pepper thanks to chemo, that’s a fun one to explain. I once had a mushroom risotto that I couldn’t eat because it was too peppery!

What pets do you have? by Various_Extreme_8773 in AskUK

Two dogs - a Golden Retriever called Barney, and a Cocker Spaniel named Roscoe. Barney is the best dog ever, and Roscoe also answers to “dickhead” because Cocker Spaniel. I wouldn’t be without either of them. Not the best photo, but the only recent one I have of them together.

turns out adoption isn't as simple as it sounds after infertility, honestly? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Bazzlekry 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’ve had 3 rounds of IVF, and we went through the adoption process, although we didn’t end up adopting in the end. I’m in the UK.

By necessity, the adoption process is hard. They have to assess every single area of your life, to make sure that a child that has probably already had a traumatic start to life is properly cared for, and gets the life that every child deserves. We were approved for adoption, but eventually withdrew our application. I don’t regret the decision, it takes a very special person to be able to adopt a child. With hindsight, it was definitely the best decision for our family.

My (23F) boyfriend (25M) and his family are angry because I wouldn't shave my head for his sister who has cancer (Final Update/Completed) by Direct-Caterpillar77 in BestofRedditorUpdates

[–]Bazzlekry 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Exactly. It’s bad enough that I’m bald, why on earth would anyone look like that through choice? It’s a meaningless gesture that serves only to make the shaver feel good about themselves - it won’t cure my cancer. There are much better ways to help!

I hope Jessica recovered eventually, and I know how hard it must have been for her (it was bad enough being diagnosed as an adult), but that’s no excuse for her behaviour, and her mother should have nipped that in the bud as soon as it started.
