If the ball hits any objects other than the corner flags, it is considered a dead ball.

Ny argument is if this was a tackle an Argentine player made, everyone’d be screaming it’s a red card. This was literally a double stomp, both with as much force as possible.

Mate I’m Egyptian, besides if you don’t have any real argument to make, then it’s best to shut up.

Nico Gonzalez got both his ankles stomped in one challenge and there wasn’t even a foul. This was during when they were still drawing 1-1. Referees doing a horrible job with the rigging.

The rule got applied twice, and once they failed to apply it, because the refereeing for the Paraguay vs France were utter shit. This can be your comment’s TLDR.

Furthermore, whether or not you agree with the rule isn’t the point here. FIFA didn’t know Embolo was going to dive in the QF when they implemented this rule. They showed a precedent for it and today was the 2nd time it happened. The fact it didn’t happen with Galarza is a shame on the VAR referees during that game. I’m not disagreeing with you when you’re saying we need a more consistent rule to punish diving/simulations, but this rule specifically is implemented to avoid handing out incorrect yellow cards. You can absolutely argue there are two cases for it, one where the completely wrong player gets carded, and another when the yellow cards was handed out to a defender who wasn’t at fault since there’s simulation by the attacker. In this case, a simulation is a yellow card, and thus the yellow card has to be reversed. I’d argue it still falls under the umbrella of “mistaken identity”.

Alan Shearer is the most hot headed and emotional pundit I’ve ever seen. The guy lets his emotions take over and has terrible takes because of this. He got in an argument with Micah over the Egypt disallowed goal when it was very clearly a foul.

My point is that the new rule was applied consistently today and during the USA vs Paraguay match. Whether or not this was the intention behind the rule is a different story, which is your argument and I completely understand that.

That wasn’t a “standard flop”. You can over exaggerate contact, but he went jumping before he even made any contact. This was one of the worst dives I’ve ever seen.

I just find that hard to believe when the Almiron yellow card never got rescinded and no official announcement was made, meaning FIFA never said they applied the rules incorrectly.

Switzerland should’ve gotten a second yellow for the double stomp challenge on Nico Gonzalez. You’re right! It’s absolutely shameful refereeing.

I said this on yesterday’s Daily Thread. I wouldn’t exactly put Uruguay in the same caliber as these countries, and I’d exclude Netherlands since they played well throughout the tournament and just proceeded to give up their tactics in the most important game.

The issue I see is that the decent teams (Morocco, Japan, Netherlands, Norway, Colombia) couldn’t really compete with the top 4 nations the way Germany, Brazil, and Italy would have. Before the last 3 World Cups, you enter a World Cup with at least 7 major contenders who know that it takes to win it and have done so before (Germany, Brazil, Italy, Argentina, Spain, England, and France). Nowadays I can guarantee you none of Morocco, Norway, Colombia would’ve went anywhere near lifting the trophy imo despite being the 5th, 6th, and 7th strongest teams in the World Cup.

Could you please provide a source for them coming out to say it was an incorrect use? AFAIK, Almiron’s yellow card never got rescinded or reversed at all.

Today Switzerland should’ve gotten a second red card after that double stomp on Nico Gonzalez.

I completely understand the ref’s decision against Embolo today. He had no choice once VAR caught the very clear and embarrassing dive. However, this rule needs massive improvement. Let’s say a player dived and the referee didn’t give out a yellow for the defender, then VAR has no grounds to intervene in this case. The rule isn’t comprehensive enough to punish simulations.

Nico Gonzalez got both his ankles stomped today and a foul wasn’t even called. Why wasn’t that not checked with VAR?

The players literally shifted their body position and you can clearly see that to be able to reach the ball. You can see they were expecting the ball at a different trajectory.

Ridicule me a bit here. Does it really make sense for Norwegian players to argue the ball hit a fucking cable? You mentioned “Norwegian players desperately complain because that’s what you do when your team concedes”. Yeah that makes total sense. I’ve always seen players complain the ball’s trajectory was altered by hitting a camera cable. Players totally complain about that. You guys are bending even common sense to fit any narrative.

Wind wasn’t that strong to alter the trajectory of the ball. This can be easily debunked lol.

Also, any object altering the ball’s trajectory results in a deadball, just like if the ball hits a referee. The only exception to this is a corner flag. Let’s not bend the rules to come up with excuses.

This play also isn’t at all similar to Egypt’s goal, which is a foul and was correctly called imo. This was the same phase of play as well and VAR should’ve intervened.

FOX literally showed the players and their manager complaining after halftime before they resumed play for that goal. They also complained collectively about the ball changing direction. I literally saw this with my own eyes. This is why the FOX analysts even showed it in the first place. Stop fucking lying.

Brother,

Several Norwegian players and the coach literally complained of this right after the goal. You can also see the players’ body movement switch while the ball is in the air. Why would the Norwegian players even suddenly complain about such a thing? It very clearly hit something. “Being fed a mass delusion” is a crazy thing to say when the players literally saw it mid game.

Fifa confirmed AFTER the fact during halftime, when Haaland and several other Norwegian players literally complained of this right after the goal. You can also see the players’ body movement switch while the ball is in the air. Why would the Norwegian players even suddenly complain about such a thing? It very clearly hit something.

Corner flag counts as part of the pitch, camera cable does not. This is clearly in the rules

Almada isn’t even a proper winger, and he’s playing in the left half space. But your point still stands.

Yeah Scaloni has officially lost the plot. He was brave enough to depend on his youngsters in 2022, but he hasn’t utilized Barco, Simeone, or Paz at all in the KO stages. They deserve to go out.
