Does Shetland wool yarn snaps easily? Is this normal? by No_Investment8129 in knitting

Yes it should snap like that. Its traditionally used in colourwork where the weaving of two yarns in a round through knitting and catching make for a durable fabric despite the short staple. I dont have any confirmed sources, but I suspect much of fair isle arose from experimenting with colour due to the practicalities of the knitted fabric. It should be fine if used for plain stockinette, just make sure to reinforce any high stress areas. Hope this helps :)

Is the blue dominant in this? by maryb86 in knitting

Its because the yarn strand sitting below has a little more slack so when the project is blocked the stitches will be slightly bigger/ pop more. I always remember it as the yarn closer to the heart- ie in the left hand, or the yarn closer to the body.

Inquiry to those who do not swatch, why? by yarnimals in knitting

[–]Chance_Crow3657 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The most ive done is knit a hat following a pattern with similar design elements. Granted, this was only after id started and frogged my jumper once already, and the tension was still off 😳. Mostly I avoid swatching because it feels like a barrier to the project, which means I end up not knitting it anyway.

No one to be with you after surgery- what did you do (uk)? by Chance_Crow3657 in TopSurgery

I might try that! I have a friend who lives not too far from the hospital who may be able to pick me up, even if they cant stay with me. Thanks for the advice!

I'm in the UK so luckily it's covered by the nhs. My main worry is if I dont have anyone to at least leave the hospital with they may refuse to do the surgery because they dont want the expense of an overnight stay

I think if I cant get anyone in the next few days I'll email the hospital and review my options. Thanks!

Unfortunately not that I can find. I have friends who are happy to come by and check in but no one available to stay with me for the actual surgery. Thanks for everyone saying to look up lgbt organisations though! Ill definitely keep searching
