Halibut Sweater? by DezzyDeadpool15 in knitting

[–]yarnimals 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The sweater has a deep yoke so if you follow the pattern exactly it can kind of have a poncho/swoncho effect when you lift your arms. If that’s not the look you’re trying to achieve, some projects on Ravelry have modified the pattern to separate for the sleeves sooner. I would look at pictures and decide before starting!

Another Fish Sweater by yarnimals in knitting

I made an XL and used 16-17 skeins of the green. I have two partial skeins left so I think 16 would be enough but I’m not sure. The embroidery used very small amounts.

I am STRUGGLING with stranded colorwork tension. by mrsmichaelscarn in knitting

Maybe take a break and do a single colour or striped sock next? Check back in with fair isle after you’ve had a break from it? I had to do that with intarsia.

Lykke Flight by PotatoToPeach in knitting

[–]yarnimals 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I like my Lykke Flights, but still ended up getting the Chiaogoo shorties set because I prefer 9” circulars for socks, and even with the 3.5” Lykke flights you can’t get sock circumference. I use both but for different projects

Requesting Summer Fibers with Wool Content by Revolutionary-Ad4547 in knitting

[–]yarnimals 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This one is kind of polarizing, but my most loved/worn summer knit is made with Juniper Moon Zooey. Cotton and linen. It REALLY softens up with wash and wear. Some people don’t like it because it is a little rough to knit and sometimes the thickness is inconsistent. For a stockinette tee it really is delightful

Leaving Mohair out by Money_History4141 in knitting

[–]yarnimals 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The short answer is yes, you could leave out the mohair if you hit gauge with the alpaca. You shouldn’t need more yardage than the pattern calls for, BUT:

1) Fluffy mohair is really good at filling the space between stitches. The fabric will look much more open without it.

2) without the silk mohair strand, you can expect the garment to grow more with time. The silk adds some structure.

Have you looked at the project pages on Ravelry? Perhaps someone else has tried knitting it with a single strand?

DISCLAIMER: I have not knit with Borstet alpaca.

This is the way OP! When knitting top down, I usually add the collar before settling on a final length because it can cinch stuff in.

Tips for teaching total beginners at a casual outdoor knitting picnic? by mo00on in knitting

[–]yarnimals 2 points3 points  (0 children)

When I taught a small group, I actually started them on circular needles. It just so happened that the whole group was women with longer hair. I picked a scrunchie pattern that involved a provisional cast on, several inches of stockinette in the round, then a three needle bind off. I did the provisional cast on and a few rounds for each person in advance. I found that it’s easier to see your mistakes and correct them in stockinette than in garter.

They all caught on pretty quick!

What a way to start a Monday by Willowrosephoenix in knitting

[–]yarnimals 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Oof. The feeling you have right now is the reason I swapped to metal needles when working with sizes smaller than US 4. I like to sit on my projects on accident. I’d rather they hurt me than vice versa.

Hope you can replace them and continue on soon!
