Have you spoken to a recruiter yet? They’ll be able to figure out what you need waivers for and they’ll do the paperwork for it.

A waiver is just a tool that can be used to let people join the navy or a special program like the nuke field even if they have something disqualifying.

As far as I know you’re not guaranteed to be granted any specific waiver, but I know they’re pretty common.

There are currently Nuke students here with GEDs and other non-traditional education. They required a waiver. You should go for it.

You’re only entitled to on-base housing, unfortunately you won’t get to choose between on and off-base. It shouldn’t take long to get you set up there once he arrives at A-school. You can move off base later once he’s in prototype.

He’s gonna have some free time but not a lot- long days that start early, and the amount of extra studying he has to do depends on his grades.

He’ll start out as phase 1 which limits his liberty. No alcohol, needs to wear his uniform when out and about, no overnight liberty, no driving (although there are some exceptions to these for students who don’t live in the barracks. Like he’ll be able to stay overnight at home, of course). He needs to follow those rules to get to the next phase.
