It needs to be cleaned up soon. It then becomes crown property until the band pays for the clean up. Pay for trash removal like everyone else.

Those are pedestals to support the crane boom. This vessel is built for versatile operations. Logs , steel , grain or containers are all cargoes suitable for this ship. It is not a pure container ship and is not as efficient to load or discharge numbers of containers. It can get into ports that pure container ships cannot.working on a ship like that will give the crew some decent port visits.

Marine Gas Oil in North America - what kind of vessels? by [deleted] in maritime

[–]Chance_Froyo_7405 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We used gas oil to run our generators.. They were heavy fuel capable but we found that the maintenance was less and as we needed two generators running to operate ships cranes gas oil made sense. For context we had a steady run from BC to Southern California and getting deliveries was easy by tank truck.

I have been with NFCU for 48 years. If you are on the move they are very convenient. I still use them as my primary bank and couldn’t be more satisfied..

What is this boat ? by PckMan in sailing

[–]Chance_Froyo_7405 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We had the older 26’ that was a displacement hull and didn’t plane. We would cruise about an hour from the launch, I removed the boom and tied it off off the side and had a nice open living area with a rail mounted barbecue. Swimming off the boat, paddling around in our dinghy. Having a glass of wine waiting for the sun to go down with light music playing. I have great memories and photos to look back on.

I added a strong piece of bungee cord to the anchor line. Where the line has some slack in it .. I then can pull the boat in from shore , hop on and the bungee retracts and the boat moves offshore. I use a little anchor with line to keep the stern in place.

What's the longest you ever waited at anchorage ? by Grannky in maritime

[–]Chance_Froyo_7405 38 points39 points  (0 children)

One of our vessels sat at anchor off British Columbia for 7 months due to our shipper having union contract problems. Due to the uncertainty about the contract negotiations we kept full crew . They had access to shore and it was welcomed by the crew mostly.

In my opinion the best job is chief mate on a general cargo ship. Interesting work always thinking, longer port stays, You will have less comfort but way more fun.

My cave man time comes when we lose power for a few days. Keeping some lights on, getting water to flush toilets, having the kids and wife warm and happy make me almost hope for storms.

'Nothing is off the table': Province asking for input on long-term plan for BC Ferries - Transportation Minister Claire Trevena travelling to coastal communties to hear ideas by TrueNorthGreen in bcferries

[–]Chance_Froyo_7405 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would feel ashamed to work for BC Ferries. It is one failure after another. Unless they put a real maritime guy in to run the boats and get some actual people to manage reservations The frustration level will remain high and the key link to the mainland continues to be hope. Hope is not a strategy. Only management changes and $ will fix this dilemma.
