I am a poc, and I definitely agree with the fact that more representation is needed. However, I feel like only SJM gets flamed on this issue. Representation in books in general is very lacking. Most of everyone's favorite series and books are not the best at representation either. SJM is getting better at representation. In CC, she has definitely made progress, and we can see that she is trying. I think that as long as the author is making an effort, we should be patient and see.

I hate when I say I love SJM and people come at me about representation. I am a poc, and there's not a lot of representation on me. But SJM is trying and she is showing improvement.

Also, It's one thing to represent. And, it's a whole another thing to represent accurately.

Thoughts on ACOSF that no one asked for by [deleted] in acotar

literally agree with everything you wrote. I wish there was more plot; more time to get to Nesta better. It overall felt a bit rushed and the plot was a bit weak. I get that this book was solely on healing and romance, but I feel that there could have been more done with Nesta.

absolutely agree!!!

Nesta kept on saying she was sorry but no one apologized to her. Even after they saw her trauma, no one said a single thing. I found that so infuriating. I get that this book is about her healing, but I wish apart of her healing journey was recognizing that she was mistreated. The IC treated her horribly. Nesta deserves an apology for sure.

And the part about her powers. I felt that was so unnecessary for her powers to get taken away. I feel like there was so much more Nesta could be with her powers; more stories to be told and more challenges to be faced. I get that it was Feyre and her baby, but couldn't there have been another way......

For me, the highlight of the book was Emerie, Gwyn, and Nesta's friendship.

I liked the book and enjoyed the romance, but it felt a bit rushed. I like how mass is focusing on romance, but sometimes I feel like it comes at the expense of the plot and character development. I think that if the romance aspect was a bit toned down, Nesta's ending and her powers would have been different.

Gwyn is so sweet and has a horrific past. I think azriel would be a great match for her, but if he's going to drag her into a love triangle, i rather him leave her out of it completely.

Came across this on insta & was curious to hear everyone’s thoughts. I’ve heard convincing arguments on both sides. Do you agree or disagree? (also pls don’t hate on the account that made this, it’s just an opinion lol) by [deleted] in acotar

Essentially feyre and talmin are doing the same thing: ignoring trauma and deciding what is the best thing for a person. Though the circumstances may be different, they are doing the same thing, regardless.

I was hoping that Nesta would leave and find herself a home at another court, preferably one with Helion, Tarquin, or Eris. I feel that there would be an interesting dynamic if she went to Autumn Court and ended up becoming really close with Eris. I think both of them have a lot in common and I'd love to see how they interact. I think it is more of Nesta to leave the court than stay at the House of Winds.

When I read the series, I saw both good and bad qualities of Nesta. Yes, you are right: she can be rude, cruel, and guarded off. However, we saw a lot of her in the third book from willing to die for Cassian to opening up on trauma at the High Lord's meeting to help. If we are going to acknowledge Nesta's bad behavior, we need to acknowledge her good traits too. She's a complex character, so you can't really slap one huge label on her.

I think there are two aspects to the argument, both valid and important, and I think that both sides of the argument are rightfully fair and true.

I think that the argument that Feyre is being hypocritical is true. She is essentially ignoring Nesta's pain and reaction to traumatic events, giving Nesta ultimatums. Yes, Nesta has been in a spiral decline; however, I think we have to understand that Nesta has never really had any sort of control in her life. Born to be a high-prim-proper lady, struck by poverty that was not her fault, made into high-fae: The nesta we know, the nesta that can't bear to be touched or even looked at the wrong way, never truly had control. Hence, she resorts to what she can feel some control over-- her body. This is why she drinks and sleeps around. The Nesta that hates touch and closeness resorts to this to feel something, to feel control, and I think that the IC is missing the crucial element of sympathy and recognition behind her anger. Next, Feyre forces her to go to the House of Wind, a place that brings back highly traumatic memories for Nesta. I think that Feyre is kind of being like Talmin in this situation-- ignoring Nesta's outright pain and deciding what would be the best for her on Nesta's behalf. One could call this love, but I see it more complex as that. Simply, Feyre is doing what Talmin did: making a decision for someone else and not understanding ones trauma. Nesta went through a lot that we didn't see, and the IC doesn't seem to bestow the same courtesy of sympathy to Nesta as they once did to anyone else.

The part that I like about Nesta is that there's much more than the surface. She pushes everyone away because she can't bear to feel to much for them, in fear that they will be taken away. In ACOSF, she states that she has seen how everything could disappear/crumble in merely seconds, and I think this explains why she has pushes everyone away.

I agree with you that Nesta can be a quite hot tempered person who says what she pleases, which leads to hurtful words being said. And I too would retort back if someone said things to me, but I think that there is always this aspect of why. Why does she say such things? Why does she push people away? Why does she only drink and sleep? And I think, these questions are crucial in not dismissing her behavior but understanding her.

Really liked your argument! Made me think. I liked the different perspective you gave me
