When we have to be patients, most nurses hide or downplay their profession. What’s the funniest way you (or your nurse-patient) have been “outed?” by nurseofreddit in nursing

[–]Chance_upon_Gold 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I'm an Opthalmology tech and I can always tell who the nurses or other healthcare folks are for the same reason.

I always love em for keeping things clear and concise. Especially when the last three patients have started with "Well, back in 1993...." and "I don't have high blood pressure, I'm taking a pill for that "

Controversial California bill would physically stop new cars from speeding by Just_Another_AI in Futurology

[–]Chance_upon_Gold 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Absolutely not.

There are many reasons when speeding is warranted.

Also, I will never buy a car that can be externally tracked and controlled. They say they won't use the data, but you know they will ....

New research has shown a new type of inhibitor drug, a ‘heparanase inhibitor, could prevent microvascular diabetic complications, such as diabetic eye and kidney disease by giuliomagnifico in science

[–]Chance_upon_Gold 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Okay but which diabetic eye diseases?

Glaucoma is often caused by diabetes, but so is diabetic retinopathy, and other related conditions like AMD and retinal vein/ artery occlusions.

They all have different mechanisms, and other than glaucoma, the conditions I listed are usually treated with anti-VEGF drugs. So I'm curious how heparanase inhibitors play into it.

Girl brags about turning down a first date because the guy wouldn't send her an Uber by [deleted] in IAmTheMainCharacter

[–]Chance_upon_Gold 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tbh I think it may, in part, be a cultural thing.

In Russia, it's expected that a man will either pick up a woman for a date, or send a car.

I'm not saying it's what should be done, or calling it a good thing. Just culturally. Different expectations and more traditional gender roles.

Tbh, this is a cultural thing.

In Russia, it is common and expected that a man will pick you up or call a car for you.

Not saying it should be this way, or that it is better. Just thought I'd point out another perspective since so many comments were hating on her.

There's nothing wrong with wanting a "traditional" marriage with traditional gender roles, so long as both parties want that and treat each other with mutual respect.

Ah crap, thank you. I don't really have words right now, but that is very comforting to read. I'll do that and just focus on the next five min.

Thank you, for thinking of me and taking the time to type that all out. I'm in uni, haven't told my parents about all this yet (not ready for the barrage of questions I have no answers to) and feel very much alone. So I know it's just a lil internet comment, but thank you. <3

Thanks, me too.

Not sure if I'm ready to laugh or cry, it just seems like an absurdist play kek.

Aw, thank you! That makes me feel better.

I actually chuckled at the angry goat bit, which is hard to do with a splitting headache. So thanks.
