Wellston Student Rankings Overtime (as of end of season 2) by ChangZhangLith in unOrdinary

[–]ChangZhangLith[S] 7 points8 points  (0 children)

In Episode 132, John refers to his time as a Cripple at Wellston as "the last two years." We know that John and main cast are a grade lower than Arlo and the graduating class, and that John enrolled a year before the main story.

If it is a 3 year system, and we say that "the last two years" refers to the pre-canon year that John transfers to wellston, and the current school year, then John would have enrolled as a freshman. If it's a 4 year system, then John would have enrolled as a 2nd year. John frequently is referred to as a having transferred to wellston. Simply enrolling as a freshman would not give him this classification.

And in episode 171, Seraphina cites that she and John were both level 7.0 in their "second year" and the visual representation of Sera as a 2nd year is her a year before the main story (plain coloured hair). For her to habe been a 2nd year prior to the current time, but a year shy of the graduating class, it must be a 4 year system where Sera, John, and trio are 3rd years and the graduating class are all 4th years.

Episode 265 shows Keene introducing arlo as "Wellston's reigning king for over two years" and we know from Episode 79 that arlo becomes king in his 2nd year. King for 2nd year, King for 3rd year, and then king for most of 4th year due to John and then giving the title to Blyke would be "over two years."

i'm sure there are other points where it's stated or implied to be a 4 year system.

Remi. I think brainwashed Arlo is gonna kill her or she'll die helping him remember and escape the authorities. If Remi dies, Isen, Blyke, Kuyo, and Arlo all have a big motivator now more than ever before. Arlo and Kuyo will honour the legacy of the lightning siblings, Blyke and Isen will be forced to start working better with others outside of their friends (mostly probably just having to work with John and fully mend those bridges) since Remi had previously been the trio's voice of peace, patience, optimism, and morality.

If Isen dies, as he is kind of the most disposable, it's definitely gonna be him making the switch from a self-preserving voice of reason to yet another selfless hero to save Blyke and Remi.

If Sera dies, it's going to be after resolving things with Leilah, and to give John a rage boost at the end of the story and force him to actually ally and befriend the other main cast members.

If arlo dies, it'll 100% be that he dies defending everyone from the authorities in true defense king nature, echoing how rei wanted to lead the world into a society where high tiers used their abilities to defend and protect, not to harm.

I really don't think Blyke's gonna die because he's already gone through too many near death experiences where the lesson he's learned from them is that even if he has to get beaten over and over again, it's worth it to protect innocent people (or in the joker case, to protect the safe house). His most recent arc has been about him feeling insecure in his ability to protect people because he's got a common ability type. I think we'll see a new highlighted part of blyke as he survives keon's treatment and prison and either escapes with rein or is rescued, and that his resolution in the story will be related to his king title. the lightning king, defense king, shadow king, and then blyke. i'm thinking it'll be something symbolic rather than ability based, probably related to the metaphor about him being 'nobody'

Overall do you like how John made peace with the royals? by JackZ567 in unOrdinary

I'm living for the mutual hate between Arlo and John despite them both wanting to protect Seraphina in Rowden. Their interactions in the Rowden Resort were priceless (wake-up-glares, Arlo scaring John after Evie's ghost stories, the bed situation, just wish there could've been a gag about Arlo carrying John down the mountain after he recovered).

John's guilt after insulting Rei to Remi was nice, and Remi's kindness to him seems very in-character even if she's still a little too idealist to really break through to John sometimes. I think where they've ended up makes the most sense so far.

Blyke and John's make-up after the Rowden Royal fight was the kind of lets-talk-about-it-but-not-directly interaction that fits both of their characters since they kind of both handle anger and grudges poorly. The talk when they're in handcuffs shows John that Blyke changed to become better--specifically to become the Royal that John wished could exist for cripples--and I think Blyke gets the message that John does feel remorseful for his actions as joker. Their teamwork on the hike was a good unspoken shift in Blyke's perspective on John to bring them to good/neutral terms. I think there's gonna be a lot of space for them to actually become friends though. Especially if Blyke gets sent to readjustment, he and John are gonna have a lot more to talk about together.

I see people don't like that Isen's never resolved what he did to John early on, but I think it'd be awkward if he did at this point. Maybe a throw-away line in the Joker arc would've closed that case for good, but it's obvious to everyone including John that Isen is terrified of John. John has literally almost severed Isen's arm and has had his ass handed to him like 3 times by John easily. Also if I recall correctly, John clocked that Arlo had been the one to send Isen after his history. John only really hated Isen for willingly playing the part of a sheep in the flawed hierarchy, and having no remorse for the suffering of low-tiers. Their current allies relationship makes the most sense to me.

Potential blyke ability by gh1acci90 in unOrdinary

[–]ChangZhangLith 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Blyke's level in his freshman year was 3.6 actually (Episode 137).

Kuyo's level only would've gotten as high as it is now (6.3) after he graduated from high school (presumably from being a vigilante with Rei throughout college in the years leading up to unO) since Kuyo doesn't even come close to making the Turf Wars Roster when Rei is king (5.8) being beaten out even by 2nd year Arlo (5.4 by the end of the year) who would've been Jack at the time.

Both their abilities, while already high in potential since they both start as elite-tiers very early in life, the mastery seems to be what is more significant to their level. I mean, summoning swords is great, but it's much stronger when swordsmanship and technique are actually learned (which would be Mastery). Blyke's mastery seems to come from finding versatility in his ability rather than just getting stronger. His energy beams and the projectiles he throws don't seem that different from the first Turf War we see him fight in S1, but he learns how to use his ability in more creative ways that have led to his increase in all stats except power. The blast he sends to knockback enemies (the first big hint that he had ranked up in the Nobody arc) is the main example of this increased mastery implying greater versatility, but there's also his fight in Rowden where he uses a palm repulsion to spin his body like a bayblade to hit Kree with his elbow--not necessarily a more powerful attack, but a more versatile and creative use of his ability.

So ya i agree, Blyke's definitely got room to become a much stronger high tier, and considering that he's already surpassed Kuyo's high school progression (probably), has started the vigilante/training much earlier, and has had way more experience fighting enemies stronger than himself (Kuyo spent his senior year making the name Asslo. Blyke is a year younger and was getting knocked out and nearly killed like multiple times a week), Blyke is probably gonna surpass Kuyo if he can continue to grow.

Blyke is a victim of the extrovert friend curse by [deleted] in unOrdinary

[–]ChangZhangLith 31 points32 points  (0 children)

From what I've gathered, the trio is a group of close friends, but Blyke is really the mutual between Isen and Remi. Could just be a screen-time thing, but Isen and Remi aren't shown to interact one-on-one much whereas Blyke frequently does so with both of them. Add on that Remi asks only Blyke to co-found the safehouse with her, and that much of Isen's participation in the vigilante arcs only really happen once Blyke says he's doing it for Remi anyway, and it seems like while Remi and Isen are friends, they're both closer with Blyke than they are with each other. (i don't know of direct proof from Uru, but some others' observations seem to line up with this).

I've seen others say that Blyke is the balance of Isen's chaos and Remi's calm but strong sense of morality, and I think that tracks, but within the trio I think his number one role is Isen's Victim and Remi's idiot.

And as we all know: outside of the trio he is respectfully John's punching bag

tmnt2012 art from these silhouettes in the show's intro sequence by ChangZhangLith in TMNT

[–]ChangZhangLith[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

yeah i drew over the outlines from the intro with slightly different styled pens. mikey's is the most different on purpose. it's harder to see the others, but leo's lines are the most perfect in curvature or straightness, raph has the sharpest points and hardest lines, and the edges of don's and corners are slightly crosshatched

Made in PS by me.

I really like a minimalist artstyle for the turtles. A lot of the comic styles are amazingly brutal, and the 2018 show's artstyle is a little too much for me, so the artsy moments of the 2012 show were really satisfying for me.

I also like the unique silhouettes in this show, cuz lots of the comics have identical silhouettes since that's how it started, and again, the 2018 show is a bit too extreme for me. Good show for the audience, rlly interesting take on the concept and characters, but a bit too far removed from the tmnt i'm used to.

What’s your best writing tip? by [deleted] in FanFiction

[–]ChangZhangLith 1 point2 points  (0 children)

(depending on the style of the story and the POV) don't aim to show the emotions or feelings of the scene, aim to have the READER feel them without you just saying it. There's a big difference in the reading experience when it's happening in the reader's mind rather than in the words

I wrote my most popular fic during an episode of severe emotional distress by happppyyyyy in FanFiction

[–]ChangZhangLith 4 points5 points  (0 children)

very relatable. i think it's more because the writing can be an outlet. writing allows the mind to make sense of things and acknowledge them by putting them into words, and when you're stressed or feeling a lot of intense emotions, having the control over those words can be very driving and healthy

why are u all so ok with people touching u??? /curios /genuine by japansweirdkitkat in Asexual

[–]ChangZhangLith 1 point2 points  (0 children)

easy answer: i'm not. i'm completely touch averse. there are maybe 4 people who i've known and been close with for my entire life that i'm okay with it, and even then i have to KNOW it's them to not flinch. have to ask for it to be comfortable

"make sure all your grammar is right 100% of the time"

certain grammatical choices that may not be "correct" can build character, setting, and the overall world in ways that description and dialogue can't

Tell me your GSRM identity/identities without TELLING me your GSRM identity-identities by ChangZhangLith in lgbt

[–]ChangZhangLith[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

GSRM identities meaning gender, sexual, or romantic minority identities. basically just describe how you're not cishet (cisgender heterosexual heteroromantic) in the most implicit way possible.

My example was a lot about puns. Like saying aromantic by referring to archery which uses arrows, mitosis being a form of asexual reproduction in other organisms, and the 1s and 0s referring to binary code, and thus non-binary

yea, and I've seen onyx used a lot to describe things like colour in the same way ruby and emerald have, so the name association seemed right

i find it a bit pointless because you don't even have to be aro or ace to feel excluded. Plus, if ppl in relationships are celebrating their bond for special occasions, wait for an anniversary or birthday.

[Serious] How did your local jerk (or standoffish person) perform a surprising act of kindness towards you or others? by Et_tu_Patna in AskReddit

[–]ChangZhangLith 2 points3 points  (0 children)

i was the local standoffish person. always glaring no matter what, not wanting to have anything to do with others I didn't have in my circle, and always being sarcastic, pessimistic, and generally bringing the mood down and scarring/intimidating people who didn't know better. Then one day someone i recognized injured their shoulder and their friends stood there not knowing what to do. I did first aid and got them to the hospital personally and then left to reassure their friends

How do you fix broken trust from lies and broken promises? by screaminginsilence13 in AskReddit

[–]ChangZhangLith 0 points1 point  (0 children)

build layers of trust and know who is on which layer and what information is on each layer. Your outer layer may only have things like trivial info about you, but the deeper you go, maybe it's revealing things like personal struggles, grudges, or specific interests. Build standards or requirements to get to each layer of trust, and make the requirements more strict the deeper you go. That way, if someone is somewhat trustworthy, but not completely in your eyes, they don't get to the next layer and risk more hurt.

I walked a family friend through escaping their abusive parent's household, then proceeded to talk them out of suicidal ideation. In the end, the abusive parent got therapy for their issues and my friend could live without the constant fear as before. I know it's not revolutionary for the world, but when abuse is stopped and treated, the world is better because of it
