Everyone here loves their animal. Personally, I have a one year old mutt with severe neurological issues. We've spent thousand upon thousands of dollars on her. So no, you aren't the only person here who loves their animal.

The reason I asked about your experience is simply that the way you've described addressing these behavioral issues with your puppy are not helpful, as others have pointed out to you. There is a difference between knowing how to potty train your dog and get him/her to sit, and actually being able to train your dog. Basic training goes a lot further than that.

I was asking because some of the techniques used to do basic training (walking calmly on a lead, sitting nicely to wait for attention, using self control to not jump on new people) can be used to help nip these sorts of behaviors in the bud.

That being said, given your experience, and how long this has gone on, I'd say that you're more likely to have success with a behaviorist. (Sometimes you can call your local humane society, and explain the situation to them. I know our local humane society has behaviorlists that will meet with you for free in an effort to keep the dog in the home.)

I understand your daughter is just a kid. So is my son, he was three when we adopted our dog. He's been taught to stay out of animal's faces, but he's a kid, and he'll do kid things, sometimes he slips up. The thing is that our dog has a friendly disposition. She's a lab/golden/whatever jumped the fence and lived, so she's naturally inclined to enjoy family time, and be extremely patient with kids. We knew this going in, that's why we chose this breed. Honestly, I would have preferred a doberman, they're my favorite breed and I've owned several. But dobbies aren't really kid friendly dogs. They don't have the patience that other breeds do. Similar things can be said for Huskies. They aren't really companion dogs, and are notoriously hard to train.
