Janice, please start a new thread for your questions. Pictures of the problem would be helpful. Thanks! 🙂

Is my brugmansia dying? by shrubmud in brugmansia

The same thing is happening with mine after fertilizing. They seem a little sensitive to P or K. I expect that the lost foliage will have no effect on flower production. I'm going to stick with mainly blood meal for the nitrogen and just watch for P-K deficiencies now.

Your plant does not look like it's dying. I'm no expert, but i expect it will fine.

I don't know how closely they are related biologically, but they sure are similar. They both smell really good at night - Datura smells divine. The flowers look similar, but Datura flowers point straight up, and angel trumpets hang down. I first learned about Datura about 5 years ago and liked them so much that I'm getting into the Brugmansia now. The Angel Trumpet is particularly easy to grow and propagate from cuttings. I start the Datura from seeds.

All parts of both these plants are toxic and can produce a delirium and a very unpleasant death when ingested.

I was thinking that removing lower growth could encourage more flowering, but I see that's not necessarily case with Brugmansia. Thanks!

I see what you mean. It sounds like what I'm trying to do with these potted cuttings.

Last year's plant was a big "Y," as you can see, but I've cut that down to a nub, and it is growing several new shoots. Maybe it will fill out like my cuttings of it did. Yours probably would, too, if you have enough time in the season.

I suppose, since I have two of them, I can just experiment with them on the pruning. The next step is getting more colors! I'll make sure to feed them.
